Why should you do Push Ups regularly

If you could do only one exercise for the rest of your life, what exercise would you choose ? I would definitely choose good old push-ups !

I'm doing push-ups regularly for about 7-8 years now. There were some stops of course. Sometimes I would stop doing them for months. But for about 2 years now, I'm very consistent and haven't taken a brake for more than a week.

Doing push-ups is my favorite exercise and it's also one of the best exercises for your whole upper body strength and muscles.

Over the years most visible gains from push-ups is my chest. It's pretty ripped and all thanks to push-ups. I did go to the gym quite a lot but even before I went to gym, I already had a nice chest.

But aside from my chest, there are more gains of course. I've build some muscles on my triceps and my shoulders. Not only did I build some muscle but strength as well.

My back is stronger as well and it wouldn't brake apart if I had to carry something heavy :D Push-ups also strengthen your abs and core so I gathered those benefits as well trough the years.

Push-ups can be done anywhere and anytime, they also don't really require much time and that's another reason why I love them ! You don't need a gym membership in order to perform this exercise, no equipment, no nothing.

And there are so many variations to make them harder and to target specific muscles. You could literally create an awesome workout routine just by doing different variation push-ups that would exercise almost every muscle in your body.

If you are not able to do even a single push up, don't worry about it. Start by doing push-ups on your knees just like the GIF below.

If you stay consistent, you will increase the amount of reps you are able to do and later on, you won't be needing your knees for support. You will feel your strength increase and your confidence about yourself will rise as well !

Push-ups also help burning calories if that's your goal. Since it involves so many muscles activation, it requires more energy to perform this action and that's why it helps you burn more calories. Did you notice that most cardio workouts include push-ups in the routine ? Well that's for a reason :)

If you never do push-ups, then I highly recommend to start doing them ! It will make you healthier, stronger and more muscular !

I do around 100-250 push-ups a day and I feel like it's not enough to me :D 50 reps is the max that I have ever done and that might be a little small considering I've been doing them for such a long time now.

But I do have plans to increase this number pretty soon. If I'm successful at it, I will definitely share the experience. But for now, start doing push-ups you slacker ! :D

We used to call the knee-pushups "girl pushups" but that's what you do, until you build up.

Can you do a 1 arm pushup?
How about clapping pushups?

I used to do claps, could never do 1 arms.

Haha that's what we call them as well.
Haven't attempted a 1 arm pushup for some time now but I think I might be able to do it.

I have arthritis and my hands are badly affected by it. I have trouble with many things, such as opening doors and bottles. My hands could never support my weight in a normal push up.

But I can do wall pushups. I don't think I get as much benefit, but it still helps me. I try for 3 sets of 10 divided in the day. How far I stand from the wall and where I place my hands on the wall depend on how much pain I am in that day.

I'm not ripped, but I'm stronger and get some strength training that I would not be able to get otherwise.

I do wall pushups several times a day, work/office/home/bathroom/shower.

It will keep back problems away, even for many that won't exercise otherwise..

Nice to know I'm not the only one! It absolutely helps me and I couldn't do them otherwise. Plus - easy - whenever you see a wall :)

Nah push-ups are really for everyone. It increases your strength and stamina. It's really good if you want to have a stronger upper body.
