My 28 day sugar detox days 8 and 9 - light at the end of the tunnel!
After the anxiety and feeling down of the last couple of days I am finally starting to feel much better because of my sugar detox. The biggest thing I noticed today is that my cravings for sugar have nearly dissapeared. I didnt have to fear going into the supermarket and struggling with coming out without any sugary items. On top of this I have started to sleep better and feel much more energetic throughout the day.
Although I have been a bit slack with tracking my food with MFP I thought I would share with you what I have eaten today so you can see what eating relatively sugar free looks like.
Breakfast -Coffee and overnight oats (oats, coconut milk, chia seeds and a pinch of cocoa powder for flavour) - I mucked these up and didn't add enough coconut milk so they were a bit lumpy.
Post workout meal - protein shake - water, protein powder (Whey Protein Isolate), half a banana,125grams natural yoghurt (after the last of my bananas are gone I will be fruit free)
Lunch - homemade chicken pie!
Dinner - Homemade egg fried rice
Snacks - chorizo, cheese, olives
People (including me until recently!) always have excuses about going sugar free such as its to hard, it takes to much time etc. For me the hardest time and most likely time I will eat sugar is if im hungry for a snack and dont have something quick and easy to eat. As I have mentioned in a previous blog preparation is key to success but here is a list of snack foods that are quick, easy and sugar free:
Hummus/basil pesto and crackers or carrot and celery sticks
Cheese, cured meats
Homemade granola
Tinned fish
Homemade soup/stew (bulk prepare)
Peanut butter (we get it from myprotein.com and it's 100 percent peanuts - no added extras)
Obviously with things like basil pesto and hummus it is better to make your own so you know exactly what is in it.
I am also becoming a tea drinker which seems to help my cravings when they do come - I generally drink either Roibos or lemon tea (just sweet enough to cure the sweet tooth).
