Which "Hashtag" to Choose on Steemit ??

in #hashtag6 years ago

No doubt a HASHTAG plays an important role in making a post popular and making it viewership reach to maximum. A "Hashtag" is # symbol which are very common in social networking world or many bloggings sites like Twitter, Facebook or our own Steemit.

It is a kind of label assigned to a content or topic which enables other user to identify and track the posts. Whenever a word is preceeded by "#" sysmbol is called as hashtag. Generally people alwsys use to the generic topic to make their posts easily searchable or discoverable.

Coming back to my Steemit world, few days ago i was pretty stuck up for chossing a hashtag for my posts. In Steemit worl where comunity development is prime objective for everyone, I was totally get confused between choosing a Specific or Generic hashtags.

Which hashtag to use??

The question keep haunting me even today, so i think to better ask my lovely steemit community. Lets first understand these two hashtag option available over Steemit.

  • Generic Hashtag : These are the most common labels available or tye trending subjects that make other user to trace. Hashtags like , #Life , #Photography , #Art, #travel , #crypto are some of the common hashtags that people always look out for.

  • Specific Hashtag : These are the labels which are limited and specific to certain user or community. There are many communities blossoming over discord. Users part of it, alwsys try to use their community name as hashtags. #steemjet , #steemrepair #indiaunited or many others. These hashtags also offer auto trails and some voting reward too to their users.

(There is a third kind of hastags too and they are uncommon hashtags. Unless and until you are not whales or orca it not going to work)

The question, that keep....me wondering is which one is good.??

While one may give your content some fame and visibility to your work through Generic on the other hand through Specific you get only good community support and few rewards. It has limited accesibility as it restricted to only community.

*Help me out with the best way to use to HASHTAG.

Suggest or guide me in the comment section about using the correct hastags , which would help me in gaining popularity over steemit.

Stay Calm....

Keep Steeming...Steem On !!!

I'm trying to understand this better too @steemflow. #steemitbloggers has been the best tag I have used and where I found you.

No doubt it is one of the best community of the like minded. But the problem arise when you are associated with more than one community.....prettu difficult to choose generic or specific.....

It is alwsys glad to meet you too....thanks for the lovely input

Had the same problem, which # used to get proper visibility to the post. We wrote about steemfest and of course I missed the proper one which is #roadtosteemfest, but somebody mention that to me and added it so post got visible and properly curated :) Very often community will help you to locate the proper tags.

Yes @route-m-d it is alwsys benefecial to choose correct one..even a minute spelling error may cause lot of problem. I belive the best way is to chose the correct generic one to let your content flown to general masses...

Btw saw your karkow post and it was amazing....steem on !

I don't know that I have the best way, but here is what I do. I use a generic tag as my first tag, and then I try to use 4 other more specific tags which fit my post. It's been pretty effective. I like that it still allows me to have exposure in the broad category, but also highlights my work exactly where it needs to be.

BOoomm...that pretty like my approach. Alwsys get the one which will give you more visibility and reach to maximum.....thanks for the lovely input @mattifer

I'm with you, I'm always questioning what tags are the best. I usually use a generic tag for the first tag. Something like #travel or #photography. Then I use my community tags like #steemitbloggers and #steemusa. Then if I still have an extra tag I'll try to use something to get it more attention like a #ocd-resteem or a #walkwithme.

Thanks @derekrichardson ibthink that is the best way to choose the hashtafs. But the problem arise when you are associated with more than one community....which one you will go for ? Every community is important and no one want create any kind of confusion over not tagging anyone.....
Also there are few specific hashtags which give you additional upvotes with certain value too....how you going to avoid them too...

I was pretty stuck up lately with being associated with more than one community

Hi @derekrichardson, would you mind if I ask for some info? In the little spare time I have, I try to find out more about OCD. Can anyone simply use the #ocd-resteem tag, or are there rules that need to be followed first?

Hi @simplymike. There are a few rules, but they're pretty basic. Checkout this post for the details.

Thanks, @derekrichardson. That was a very helpful post.

I use a mixture of both, generic eg: photography, and specific eg: busy, teammalaysia... I guess it is up to an individual's preference - think about your objectives... of what you want to achieve, that may perhaps help you.

Thats true....either the individual may prefer to have their community happy or by trying to get maximum exposure....but don't you think the community specific may limit your viewership?

Are you talking about a hashtag embedded in the post, different from the 5 allowed tags?

Any hashtag that may make post to fly to their readers..
