Happy Whiskey Wednesday-Original Tag Challenge with @the-future- Featuring Teenage Band Obsessions

in #happywhiskeywednesday7 years ago (edited)

I usually post a video of my brother with these posts, but today I am trying something new inspired by a song that I just heard on the radio. But before I get into that...

If this happens to be the first time you've stumbled upon a Happy Whiskey Wednesday post, here is the backstory:

Once upon a time a group of friends of mine on social media (when facebook was in its fledgling stages) started the tradition of Happy Whiskey Wednesday as a way of bringing some fun to the middle of a work week. It was our own cyber happy hour...s.
We would post kick-ass, upbeat songs to one another; we even turned it into a contest at one point as to who could bring the most fun and excitement to the party. Often the hilarity would go on into the night, with dozens of ridiculous pictures (and comments of course) added to the mix.

**I generally end this segment with: So if you feel the urge please do join in the fun, either by making your own post or posting down below in the comments with videos or anecdotes, or really anything that floats your boats!

But today, as I said, I'm doing something new.

From 2012 until 2015 my daughter was a Super Fan of One Direction. To the degree that she rarely listened to anything else. We took her to meet-ups and two concerts- her idea of heaven at the time- and her room? Plastered with posters and merchandise, even a life-size Cardboard cut out of Harry Styles (that scared the crap out of me on more than one occasion) When my daughter gets into something, there are no half measures. She didn't just fall in love with their music, she spent countless hours watching videos of them off-stage and falling in love with them in general. I have to admit, there were a couple she showed me that made me kinda like these boys myself.

You see this Boy Band was untypical in one really big way--they absolutely refused to learn choreographed dancing...and the following minute long video expresses this, well fucking hilariously actually:

Now as you can imagine, the rest of the household got pretty tired of hearing those boys in the background. But now that it's been nearly two years since the obsession came to its end? I have to admit, when I hear a song of theirs on the radio I find myself singing along and feeling a bit nostalgic. And there were a few songs (I realize now) that I like well enough myself to download to my mp3 player.

My personal favorite of theirs- Act Your Age (Which may as well be my husband and my theme song...though it would have been appropriate if it were named Never Act Your Age)

My second favorite: The one that most people have probably heard, but may not know was them:

And finally, this would not be complete if I didn't add at least one of their cliche/cheesy but super upbeat songs...and this video has the added bonus of a skit performed by the band (that I honestly also find pretty hilarious)

EDIT: I just had to add this--One Direction goofing off to Jason Derulo's Talk Dirty To Me...(I blame the whiskey)

Does anyone currently have tweens or teenagers who have become obsessed with a particular band?
Are your kids grown but you are now remembering a band they obsessed over?
Too young for either of those? When you were a teenager did you have a band you obsessed over? If the answer is yes to any of the above, please regale us with stories and videos in the comments below!!

That is classic life stuff right there lol, courageous of you to share all that hahahahaha

For a few months on Fascistbook, every Friday nite I would do similar --- I called it Friday Nights w DJ Barry-- it took a few weeks, but gained traction and was great fun!

I would start posting videos similar to your stuff, people would comment, share their video next on my page, and it went on into the nite usually 3 or 4 hours, it was funny, I think about those days sometimes.

  • And how all those people stabbed me in the back eventually LOL

LOL, thanks! DJ Barry? Oh, you have to put a video in the comments now!
I'm sorry to hear they stabbed you in the back, people can be so...small. I don't use facebook much anymore, but I still get on to check messages from diehard facebook friends. I have to say I've been fortunate in my friendships, I have people in my life that have been around for two decades since middle school, and still have several close college friends. I have been hurt by the occasional shitty person , but overall...yeah I've been lucky.

I seem to attract some consistent bad people, it has caused me to re evaluate what inside me is doing this.

So I keep to myself a lot more.

I know we're just getting to know one another, but my guess is that because you are a genuine person you've given people the benefit of the doubt who didn't deserve it. And because of this you've been hurt. This is not a fault within you, this is something lacking in them. This is my nature too, the only difference is that when someone proves they are shallow and petty, I realize that they have a lot to learn and that I have nothing to do with that. It's not my fault that they haven't yet evolved to the point where they can live with honesty and depth, and sweetie, it's not your fault either!

I have come to some of these conclusions on my own, so it is neat, you are right.

That's the only reasons I ran for city council --- to help people, get rid of the corruption and scare the system into a wake up revolution and say -- enough is enough.

Thanks for taking time for me. It is nice.

My MOTD is just up now if you want a laugh, since it is related to this post

I agree with @dreemit. I'm sure it has nothing to do with who you are. Seems to me whenever one is nice, genuine and just being themselves in an open way, usually to the positive benefit of all, it seems to bring out the bully in others. Not sure why, maybe an easy target? That is why I love Steemit so very much. People are almost always nice to one another. I have no patience with snarky, bs laden nastiness in commenting. This site is generally very positive. As the old cliche goes, and is so very true..." it isn't you, it's them".

I'm long past being a teenager, but I still obsess over different groups. By the end of this song, you can't help but think, "I can have everything!" Alabama Shakes demands getting up and moving around - great for a Wednesday!

Very cool! I have never heard this, I love being introduced to new music ;)

Glad you enjoyed this. Alabama Shakes is the best new band I've heard in a long time. Brittany Howard is a powerhouse! And a role model for girls to follow their dreams their own way, without worrying about how they fit into the latest fashions and culture. They are great live!

I will definitely listen to more! And speaking of role models for girls to follow their dreams their own way, this song embodies that for me: Kacey Musgraves

I like Kacey Musgraves. She's got it right here, for sure!

Great post @dreemit! And whiskey, who doesn't like it? My favorite is Jameson. When I was a teen my favorite "band" was the Beastie Boys, although I didn't obsess over them they were my first live concert. 1987 License To Ill tour. Lord, I'm old. Lol.

Thanks for checking it out! Unlike my daughter, I never did get into boy bands, I was super eclectic music wise. I would have to say the first band I ever truly loved was Pearl Jam. Saw them in concert in 1996, Eddie was then and still is amazing, ;) Oh, and I went crowd surfing!

You're welcome! Pearl Jam was good. Whenever I hear them it brings my right back to the 90's. : )

Oh my gosh these guys are a hoot! I've heard their songs but never watched any videos. They remind me so much of my boys. LOL

And I'm going to put in a song request that your brother sing Act My Age in a future Whiskey Wednesday. :D

I know, I definitely understood my daughter's infatuation once she began showing me their videos! It would be awesome if my brother would sing that! I will definitely see what I can do ;)

I've enjoyed the post, but I just couldn't bring myself to click on the play button for any of the videos >.< You weren't kidding when you said your daughter goes all out with these obsessions. First, there was Supernatural and now this. You're such a great mom for putting up with all of it. I'm sure she appreciates all of your efforts :D

Is it wrong that I had hoped her teenage band obsessions was music that I could listen to? haha!

LOL. Hey, meesterboom suffered through it for me! Haha! Actually, I do understand, given the stereotype and the fact that my teenage band obsession was Pearl Jam, never did get into boy bands. But...Act My Age is truly a good song. They had a few. And the minute long dance thing is really funny, I'm not kidding about that. They refused to do the in sync dancing and just basically irritated the shit out of the instructor. I would recommend anyone to watch it, even my manly husband thought it was funny.

Haha! You made a convincing argument, and I have to say that it's ... not bad :) I actually like the first song they released, though when it was sung by Boyce Avenue.

I actually don't have a problem with boybands, since my childhood years saw the height of the boyband craze. I still know a lot of Backstreet Boys and NSync songs by heart >.< Their songs really aged well, tbh.

Cool story about the dancing haha I'm glad that even your husband enjoyed it!

Oh yeah, I agree, this is good!

Happy day of whiskey dear friend @ dreemit, I will have to change my Wednesday post, replace the wine with a whiskey post, I will study the subject.
have fun
greetings to all your family

Hey, @dreemit your post is incredible! I love the idea of that contest in the middle of the week! That's fantastic! I have to resteem this post! Cheers!

Awesome!! Thank you ;) I am so glad I joined that meme challenge, otherwise I might not have met such a positive, amazing being! Cheers to you luv!

Is not a meme challenge, but I'm glad you also join! Is so nice to see more people join! Thank you very much! Cheers @dreemit!

Oh, I meant that I'm glad I joined the meme contest that you judged...because that's how we met ;)

:D Sorry, I miss understand you! Yes, you are right, that way we met! :D

Oh my flippity jings. Should I unfollow you for this evil!!!

I have now watched two 1D videos. I am ashamed of myself. I must go for a shower. And not even a sexy sexy shower!!

Only for you would I do this :0D

HAHAHAHA!!! Actually, I've watched the last one I put up, which isn't even them singing, it's them acting like arses to another guy's song, three times now. Because, and I will use a New Zealand term, I am straight up Sozzled at the moment, and that damn video is super entertaining to me right now LOL

Do you know @ddschteinn? Because that guy, is a man's man, who just commented- and he not only liked the dancing boys video, he posted a video for me! That's how it's done! Haha-- I challenge you to find a video to add to my party my awesome scottish friend ;)

sigh

Oh look at those funny guys!!

Meh :0p

LOL! You didn't have to post One Direction, haha, anything goes ;)

EDIT: ddschteinn didn't post one direction LMAO

Oh bugger!! I should have looked at the comment!!

Oh God, haha, I'm imagining you looking this up now, and I can't stop laughing, that's way funnier than any video could be!!

Holy shit, I just snarfed my coffee reading your response. ROFLMAO
Now you need to make a video of NOT dancing. lol

Hahaha!! What, not the dancing!! It's famed in many circles ;0)

Most definitely worth an upvote. Time to shake that money maker. lol

That settles it, reading anything by @meesterboom while consuming coffee..or any beverage, is hazardous to one' health! I have had several accidents regarding this.

Also...I'm going to put up a steemit birthday post, that is going to largely feature a friend of ours that is really missed. Within the next hour, expect to see a familiar thumbnail art....

I was just about to work on a happy birthday post too but I'm half brain dead right now. Insomnia for a week and didn't go to bed until 6 or 7 this morning in part because my poop puppy had a couple of seizures. sigh

Happy Whisky Wednesday to you. I love the dancing boys video. How to drive your choreographer nuts. Thanks for sharing. Now I need to find a video.
'Some Time Later' : Ok, found one...
One of my friends had a copy to play, and we used to listen to this older gem of early rap when playing roundball on the hardwood. At one time we could recite most of this whole thing from memory. Ah, the joys of youth. (Can still recite major stanzas on a whim...a real "life of the party" kind of skill to have).

Oh yeah!!! This is awesome, you know how to contribute my friend @ddschteinn! Love this, haha, hip hop to the boogie!

Lol, yeah this is a better video!!

Hee! For the record, I Love that you looked up 1D because you thought that's what I was asking...you are the mothafruckin best ;)

Hehe, i totally did. Was like ffs wtfs 1D motherfrikkin here. Lol. All for you you!! :0)

Oh God, sometimes you make me very nearly pee myself, LOL!!!

Nesting limit

You and that bladder!!! Lolz!!!!

Who knew that I'd like 1D? Well, at least I like Story of My Life.

That is a good song ;)
