Welcome to the 20th Gridcoin State of the Network Report. The SotN Report is a fortnightly report organized by @parejan and @jringo. It compiles useful news and statistics for the Gridcoin community.
DEVELOPMENT
Last week's development update. Thank you @barton26!
Beyond the development update linked above, a lot of the discussion these past weeks has revolved around optimization and stake-splitting. Stake-splitting is becoming increasingly likely to be a short term reality due to some UTXO optimization work by @jamescowens. More on UTXO optimization is found in his post, here.
@ravonn has been working on identifying possible sync optimization paths and has potentially reduced full chain sync time from 20+ hours to 2-3 hours. You can read more on his work here.
NEWS
Design work continues for the new GUI, so if you have any suggestions or ideas do reach out on the development thread linked below.
Gridcoin is taking place in a BOINC team challenge running from August 27th to August 31st. The project is WCG. To participate, crunch WCG on team Gridcoin during those days. Happy crunching!

Every other week we bring you the most up to date statistics regarding the operation of the Gridcoin blockchain and Gridcoin BOINC projects. The information is gathered from Thursday to Wednesday on fortnightly basis and compiled from the getblockstats RPC command in the Gridcoin wallet, BOINCStats, GRCPool, Gridcoin Stats and from individual project websites.

One thing I've noticed about the graphs is that the linear trends should not be taken too seriously. For example, the minimum time between superblocks changed levels from 0 to 25, while the linear regression line just gets a shallower slope over time, reflecting a nonexistent trend.
I told @jringo this a couple SoTN posts ago. It's been bothering me too :P
