Learn Something New Every Day Contest. Day 4

Good Evening Steemians!

Well, it didn't take long, we are only 5 days into the new year and I already missed a day. Oh well. Life happens, and as much as I would like to sometimes, I can't be on Steemit all day, every day. But, as for right now, I am on Steemit, so lets learn some things and give out some rewards, shall we?

The goal of the "Learn Something New Every Day Contest"!

This project has been mulling around in my head for quite some time, and I finally had that EUREKA!!! moment right around Christmas. I decided to wait until New Years to unveil it, and the community response has been FANTASTIC! Since the original idea was to honor my Uncle's Memory by trying to "learn at least two new things every day", I think we are off to a pretty damn good start! Even already having missed a day, you guys have given me far more than two facts a day, and I think that makes up for the one day that I missed! Plus I have gotten to meet more great Steemians, and give out more rewards! Who else is loving this price spike?!

Contest Day 3

Above is a link to the previous contest. Here I am going to talk a little about my favorite entries!

Okay, so I had one entry that was definitely my favorite. But that is because I am a video game nerd, and the chance to reward someone for talking to me about video games? No brainer. Actually, @tj5553 did teach me a few things about the company "Nintendo" that I did not know. I do know a pretty decent amount about Nintendo as a Video Game company, and I knew that the company originally was a company that sold hand made "Hanafuda Cards" (those are Japanese playing cards), but there was a lot of the middle part of the company's history that I was unaware of. Thank you @tj5553 for teaching me something about a company that I am a really big fan of!
There were several other really good entries as well, but I don't want to drag this post on forever. You should just click that shiny green link to the previous contest post and scroll down to the comments section and have a look for yourselves! The post, and the entries are all still well within payout. Maybe you can reward someone with an Upvote for teaching you something new, as well!

Rules for participation.

Tell me Something I Don't Know.

Leave me a meaningful comment below with a random bit of trivia knowledge (if you don't know what a meaningful comment is, make sure you read the post by @ogochuckwu linked at the bottom of this post). It doesn't have to be the most fantastic bit of knowledge, it just has to be true. If you post something really hard to believe, I may ask you to cite your source or link me to something that backs up your bit of info. If you cannot provide me with SOMETHING (a webpage, a news report, ANYTHING) to back up you claim I will not consider it a valid entry and I will not Upvote your entry. If you say something like "One thousand years ago, homo sapiens were an average of 12 feet tall. My teacher in third grade taught me that", I am probably not going to believe you. Like I said, it just has to be true (and somewhat verifiable).
All entrants will get a small Upvote for participating, (One Entry Per Person Per Day!!!) and my top three favorite will receive a 100% Upvote, a 75% Upvote and a 50% Upvote for teaching me something new that day.
Replies need to be in English or translated to English (If I can't read it, I can't judge it). You have about twenty three hours (give or take an hour depending on what time I get online that day) to make submissions to this post, at which time I will give out rewards and post the new Day's contest. Be sure to check the comments and support the other entrants. I highly encourage engagement in the comments section, and the vast majority of my Upvote power is used on comments. Earning rewards just for talking to each other is my favorite part of the platform, and I highly recommend Upvoting each others entries in the replies to this post! If the first three comments have Upvotes from me (the first one will be about a dollar), then I have already given out prizes for this contest, but the next one will be out shortly!
You must Upvote this post to be considered a "valid entry". This is not because I want the rewards from your vote. This is because I rent delegated Steempower to provide larger Upvotes as prizes to my contests, and your Upvote on this post helps me pay for that delegation, and spread more rewards to more users!

As always, thanks for taking the time to read my post!

I'm @gogogadgetupvote and I'm Always On Duty!

Did ever happen to you that you forget what you were doing when you walk through a door? Going through the door symbolizes an act of beginning and end of something so it creates "event boundary" in your mind. Every time you pass through a door your brain is filling away the toughts you had in your previous location to make room for new group of memories in the next location. :D

That happend to me a lot in my life I was so astonished when I found out why was that, I just tought I was stupid or dementia kicked in :')

Wow, this is great, actually didn't know what it was termed as, but I'm glad I'm getting to learn this. The event boundary.

Interesting. Maybe I should have taken a psychology class, hehe.

Well, I don't even have highschool haha

Good to know, man! That happens to me all the time. I thought it was just because I smoked too much weed.

No,no, when you smoke weed, everything happens hahahha

First! Thank you for putting a name to a thing that happens far too often to me!

No problem it bugged me a lot aswell hahah :) thanks!

Do you know about Dolly's Braces?

It is one of the popular example for Mandela Effect, which is a name given for collective misremembering of certain facts, here is an interesting read on the Mandela Effect.

Near the end of the James Bond movie Moonraker (1979), there is a scene in which Jaws (the big bad guy with metal teeth) gets trapped under some ruble after a fight with Bond. A cute blond girl with pigtails comes over and helps him out. He smiles, with his metal teeth reflecting the sunlight, and Dolly (as many people remember it) smiles back with braces on. They then walk off together without saying a word, holding hands. The joke of course is that they are both metal-mouths.

But if you watch the movie now, you can see that Dolly doesn't have braces, in contrast with the popular belief. Even now, this is one of the hot topics in lot of movie-science forums. Many claim that this as a proof of a 'Bug' in The Matrix, implying the world we are living in is a simulation. However these discussions are certainly interesting to follow.

Second place! As with first place, it was a thing that I was aware of, but I didn't know the name for it, or the specific example, like I said. Thanks for participating!

Thank you so much, 😊

Huh, I could have sworn I remembered those braces...

Interesting fact on the "Mandela Effect". I was aware of the phenomenon, but not what it was called, or that specific example from the Bond movie. Let's not get started with "Bugs in the Matrix". I have my own theories on that, and I won't get into them. LOL. They aren't for polite conversation. Plus enough people already think I am crazy enough, I don't need you guys thinking I am a looney toon, too.

Now you made me remember a friend of mine, he is also a 'looney toon'. LOL

Bioluminescence causes the shoreline to glow at night in the wonderful beaches of Maldives. This occurs when a micro-organism in the water is disturbed by oxygen.
It feels so sci-fi
B.jpg

Very cool!

WOW this is beautiful

Yeah, it feels so sci-fi, but it's really cool and amazing.

That is really beautiful. So, I was aware that there were "glowing organisms" in the sea. And I have even seen a similar spectacle on the beaches in Lincoln City, Oregon. But the colors were not NEARLY so bright or vivid. So, I was sort of aware of it, but I did not know that the colors could be so vibrant and shine like that. Thanks for sharing!

This only occurs with longer exposure photography 🙂 Usually, it just looks like a white-green glow to your eye - my brother and I have gone on a few photographic missions when there are bioluminescent organisms about :)

What's terrifying is when you see this, but it's actually a bunch of Portuguese Man o' War...

Absolutely beautiful! Even if it is long exposure photos, they are fantastic! Third Place!

Do you know you can get paid watching porn? !

Smart Media Tokens are at work!

Vice Industry Token
https://vicetoken.com/#subscribe

Okay. So now you can get paid to spank it. And if you do a good enough job, you can make a livable wage! JK. Sort of.... It is amazing what kind of crazy ideas people come up with. So when is the ICO?

I know,, is insane! Wanking for a living or watching porn for a living
I really don't know anything about ico,I'll have to check it out , I guess we should throw a few $hundreds there too!

In my opinion, slightly better than the "spank bank", is this other new ICO coming out where you get paid to play video games!

Thank you very much!
Sure I will!
Keep it up

Thanks for the contest.

Did you know that for every human, there are 1.6 million ants in the world.
Also the weight of all ants is almost equal to weight of all humans combined.

Let's hope they dont all unite up against us.

May be one day that will happen...

I think I watched an old black and white horror movie like that once... except they were giant ants... though I'm not sure which would be more terrifying...

I don't like ants. I have a personal grudge against them. They won't get out of my house, and they won't pay me any rent.... Bastards...

Wow this is amazing.... Never seen like this before... Thanks for the video...

I never thought about this one before but it makjes perfect sense.

Movie trailers were originally played at the end of the movie, that's why they were called trailers. Clearly not all that effectual and why they now appear at the beginning.

That's an interesting one

Wow, this is great. I just learnt this today. Thanks for sharing this piece.

That makes perfect sense. But yeah, except for the new Marvel movies with all the "teasers" at the end of the credits, people leave when the screen fades and the credits start to roll. Since the "trailers" were meant as an advertising tool, it only stands to reason that they would want people to actually see it, and putting them before the film instead of after makes great sense.

Do you know, Nepal Was Once named as the weed capital. Even Bob Marley visited Nepal.

Neat! It was a sad day when Bob died...

Hi I am rather new but I love fun facts.

I stay in a country called Malaysia where we see rats as big as cats, oh my goodness. I always wonder why wouldn't the cats go after the rats? One day I was randomly reading fun facts and I read that there is this tiny parasite named Toxoplasma gondii which can only be bred in the guts of a cat. Hence, when rats get infected, they become less scared of cats! No wonder! So now in our place, we call the rats CRATS haha! :P not sure if this would interest you, though!

Thanks for this contest @gogogadgetupvote, I'm really learning a lot.
OK for today, I'll still be talking about the information I got from participating in the petrobowl competition.

Did you know that much to Jay Z surprise, he was surprised that Auto Tune was developed by Andy Hildebrand an Exxon employee who worked as an electrical engineer. He was working on interpreting seismic data gotten from the exploration project. And later realized that the technology could be used to modify pitch in music.

The auto tune was first used by famous Musicians like Cher and in subsequent times, Snoop Dogg and T-pain employed it in their songs.

My sources are the Society of Petroleum engineers Petrobowl question bank and Wikipedia to support.

Nice! It's funny how people invent things while working on completely different projects or applications.

True @tj5553, he invented it to help in clearing seismic noise gotten from exploration data, never thought it would be used and accepted widely in the Music Industry.

Auto-tune is for talent less hacks who can't actually sing themselves..... Just my opinion. The "robot voice" thing is just not very euphonious. Interesting fact, plus I had to "Google" what the term for "pleasing to hear" was. So I learned two things from your entry!

Did you know that North Korean men and women have a choice of just 15 approved hairstyles – but none match Kim Jong-un's distinctive cut. @gogogadgetupvote
