RE: Learn Something New Every Day Contest. Day 4
Bioluminescence causes the shoreline to glow at night in the wonderful beaches of Maldives. This occurs when a micro-organism in the water is disturbed by oxygen.
It feels so sci-fi
Very cool!
Woah! Beautiful
WOW this is beautiful
Yeah, it feels so sci-fi, but it's really cool and amazing.
That is really beautiful. So, I was aware that there were "glowing organisms" in the sea. And I have even seen a similar spectacle on the beaches in Lincoln City, Oregon. But the colors were not NEARLY so bright or vivid. So, I was sort of aware of it, but I did not know that the colors could be so vibrant and shine like that. Thanks for sharing!
This only occurs with longer exposure photography 🙂 Usually, it just looks like a white-green glow to your eye - my brother and I have gone on a few photographic missions when there are bioluminescent organisms about :)
What's terrifying is when you see this, but it's actually a bunch of Portuguese Man o' War...

Absolutely beautiful! Even if it is long exposure photos, they are fantastic! Third Place!
