Mint Green and White Spoon Pipe Glassblowing Practice

This pipe is a combination of that easy to work with milky white and what the glass manufacturer calls mint green but honestly seems more like a teal to me. I love the contrast of the two together. This project was an experiment in condensing and properly melting the colors in, two things every glassblower worth a damn should have down.

For those not hip on the terminology condensing is as it sounds, just condensing thinner glass to make it thicker. The majority of my colored tube is pretty small in diameter and thickness so to make a pipe with proper even thickness, condensing needs to be mastered.

And melting in color properly goes hand in hand with condensing. Usually when you apply new colors to a glass in terms of design, you're generally laying it onto the surface which leads to an uneven surface. The idea is to get the whole thing hot so the wall thickness evens out. If you don't especially with transparent colors you'll really see the thin spots and those will always be weak points in the glass, something you don't want.

Both are easier said than done in my experience.
