Out Of Town Garden Update 1
Yesterday we visited our out of town garden!
We planted this garden on May 5th and when we visited a week later, after no rain, it hadn't gotten a chance to sprout yet. This is our second trip out since we planted and it's a pretty big difference this time!
This is what it looks like about 3.5 weeks after planting. Not too bad!
The east side of the field, towards the trees, gets much more shade than the west side, so things generally don't grow quite as well there. As of right now, I'm thinking I may have to re-sew some of the beans and stuff on that side. It's still early enough that they should have just enough time.
We had talked about doing square foot gardening this year but because it's a shared space we figured it's best to stick with the usual lines.
Just to recap again what I've planted here; I have lots of peas, potatoes and beans, several varieties of each. Apparently I only took pictures of the beans yesterday, they are the most impressive though anyway! 😆 I also have two kinds of zucchini that have sprouted nicely, a yellow and a green, plus two kinds of popcorn! :)
I do have some more squash planted around but since they were planted a bit later, as of yet none have popped through. Hopefully I'll see them nice and tall on our next visit!
There's a few things that there seems to be no sign of so far, such as the parsnips and leeks. I'm not sure if something gobbled them up that fast or if they never started at all- or started and died in the heat. That's the problem with having a garden so far away! Could have gone either way but as of now I'm highly doubtful anything will come of it.
That's exactly what happened to our soy beans last year, I guess we'll never know for sure!
I planted some kale and tricolour beans yesterday too, we're getting to the end of our planting time and I tend to just start tossing things in the ground at this point 😆
Anyway, that's the garden recap, hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned to watch it all grow and to see how much we get to harvest from this space!
