My passion for agriculture began as an 8-year-old child. At that time I lived in a rural suburb of large areas. My father and my grandparents were country people, they were very familiar with the origins of sowing.

The work of agriculture was to prepare the land for planting, we planted corn, manioc, squash, tomatoes, peppers, different vegetables and vegetables, today I want to share with you all the manual process that we carried out with my grandmother and my mother in planting tomato. This procedure is called an organic procedure because no fertilizer or pesticide is used. Only hangover or cow dung.

This vegetable has a scientific name "Solanum lycopersicum" is generally known as "tomato, tomatera or tomato" originated from "Central and South America" was consumed more than "2500 years" and the first to consume were the Mexican Indians.

The origin of their name is Aztec "Nahuatl language", the natives called them "xīctomatl", meaning "fruit with navel"

This is a vegetable that is known and grown in the world, there are as many varieties as countries in the world, in this post I will only name the most traditional.

"Round or Creole Tomatoes"

As we can see there are different varieties of tomatoes, in today's post I want to talk about "round or Creole tomatoes".

The plant of "round tomatoes" grows upwards and can reach up to a meter or a meter and a half, a plant with many stems, its fruits are semi-round with fine skin, inside it is "very fleshy" Pose a "small seed" and is made mostly water "almost 90%". The rest are "nutrients 74% carbohydrates, 18% protein and 8% fat", "contains vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, fiber, helps to eliminate cholesterol"

The work to plant "the tomato" is very simple, it has five fundamental steps, to clean the earth, to remove the earth, to fertilize the earth, to plant and to transplant, it is fundamental the preparation of the land for the success of the harvest.

The work begins by cleaning the surface to be planted very well, in this procedure it removes all the yuyo or the grass with a hoe of hand, as we see in the image

Once the soil has been cleaned, all weeds must be raked and removed, after weeding has been completed, the next step is to remove the soil, 30 centimeters deep, or the top of a spade. That the earth is soft and can develop without problem the root of the plant of the "tomato".

The next job is to fertilize the soil, fertilizer is mixed with the soil, here we use cow dung and hangover, the hangover is achieved in the forest, the leaves and sticks that fall to the ground are disseminated and Are mixed with the earth, this mixture of sticks, grasses and black soil is what we call hangover, others use garbage previously buried and scattered in the earth, once fertilized the surface, we have to rake the soil to leave the surface Smooth, as we see in the image.

Once matched to the ground, we are in a position to prepare our soul, we pull a few strands to form the rectangle 2 meters long by 70 centimeters wide, this is where we are going to plant our seed of tomatoes, see the image.

Once the soul is made, we are ready to begin sowing. The tomato grows from its own seed, it begins to be planted between July and August after the intense cold has passed, the seeds are taken and distributed throughout and throughout our soul.

The plant of "Tomatoes" suffers the "low temperatures", for that reason the storage has to be covered with some plastics as we see in the image.

Soon the plants will start to come out, it is essential to do the maintenance of cleaning by removing all the weeds, water frequently but not too much the plant can not be submerged in water, the plant is ready to "transplant in 50 or 60 days" Of the date of planting or when it has "4 to 5 leaves" or of a size of "18 to 20 cm of height" as we see in the image.

Fuente: https://huertoencasa.org/guia-para-principiantes-trasplantar-tomates-3/

Before planting we have to prepare the final stock, we must throw some files to plant as straight as possible leaving a space of one meter between each file. As we see in the image

Fuente: http://urbinavinos.blogspot.com.ar/2015/06/huerto-de-secano-tomates-pimientos.html

Once done, we are able to transplant our plant "tomatoes", we must plant a plant in each hole leaving a space of 10 to 20 cm between each plant, as we see in the image

Fuente: http://huertopatatin.blogspot.com.ar/2016/06/trasplantar-tomates.html

We must remember that this plant grows upwards and when the fruits begin to come out it will weigh, for this reason we must make the trestles so that the plant can bear the weight of the fruit, as we see in the image.

The tomato plant will be ready to harvest at "80 or 90 days" from the date of transplanting, harvesting the tomato is very simple only the fruit should be removed from the plant, it is advisable to remove the fruit from the tomato every time Is going to consume, to keep them always fresh

Tomato has many ways of uses, can be consumed fresh, sauces, cooked, stuffed, in oils, juices, jams, canned in cans, in my province tomato is used in many varieties of food, such as stews, Soups, salads, baked, stuffed.

Thanks for the long but beautiful post of you and I learned many things from it.

My tomato plants are doing very nicely, I've been growing the from seed. I should be able to plant them outside in a few weeks. The "Cherry Tomatoes Yellow Pears" variety looks really interesting- I may see if I can get those seeds in the UK.

If that variety is very good, it is a tomato very balanced between the sweetness and acidity, the seeds you will find in some big supermarket like walt mark or something similar.
