Wow! Beautiful corn! What kind is it? Do you grind it up for meal or keep it for decorations?

I read the comments and saw you use it for meal, what kind of grinder do you use?

In the past, we've used one of those cast iron hand grinders with the metal plates, but you can't really get a fine flour from one of those. This year we bought an electric grinder that uses grinding stones, you can grind wheat into flour with it, so it should make nice corn flour also.
The corn is a variety from Montana called Painted Mountain. It's supposed to grow at higher altitudes up to about 6000 feet. We're not nearly that high, but it's also a pretty tough short season corn.

I've just used an old coffee grinder in the past for grinding my meal corn but I sift it out and the powdery stuff I use as corn meal while the grittier stuff I use for grits. One of these days we'll probably get a decent grinder... but this year the appliance I added to the kitchen was a press and I made loads of apple juice!
I'll have to try that corn. I live at 5280 and it's pretty tough to get a long enough season, I've done it but didn't have luck this year.

Yes, it's worth trying the Painted Mountain corn at your altitude and see how it does.

Felicitaciones amigo se le dio la cosecha eso es lo importante, me encantó los jojotos de diferentes colores, nunca había visto algo así con esa variedad de colores. Dios bendiga tus manos.

Dang that’s not to bad at all, they are also very pretty. Good job!

Thank you! :-)

I like the look of those corn cobs. They look pretty novel to me as we don't get that kind of variety over here in U.K. (Only in specialist suppliers probably).

Are you able to order seeds through the internet?

Yeah we can order seeds over the internet.

Hi Amber - that some colorful corn. Are they dry or are they fresh? I have never eaten that colorful variety before. My grandma used to dry the yellow corn when there was too much. Do you do that as well?

This corn is a dry variety that's used for decoration, and is also a very good flour corn if you have a grinder. We grow it for making flour.

@amberyooper ok thank you. Might be a silly question but are these colorful corn sweeter to taste?
My grandma also made flour which was used for porridges and dumplings. 😀

I don't think this corn is sweeter to taste, it tastes like field corn, not sweet corn.

Fascinating to see the colours in the corn, I have not seen a variety like that before I am used to seeing the yellow corn. I was reading in the comments this a dry variety to be ground for flower.

You certainly have a good irrigation system set up, and have gown a selection of crops do you think the beans will get much bigger this late in the year.

Good luck with the mowing!

Thank you!
The bean vines will keep growing and flowering until it gets too cold for them. As for the beans, I'm just waiting for them to get dry so I can harvest them and shell them for soup.
