Slayaway Camp Review - Butcher's Cut

In addition to all the major titles that appear this fall, we should not forget that there are also enough smaller titles to see the daylight. One of the titles is Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut, a bloodthirsty tinted puzzle game. In this game you step into Skullface's skin, a psychotic killer who is on revenge, so there are only as many teens as possible. Slayaway Camp was created by the same people who made the puzzle games Bejeweled and Peggle, two classics that clashed millions of people on their screens. Whether this is so classic, i will tell you in this review.

Extensive smartphone game

I will fall into the house right away, because the first feeling I received after starting the game was that I was playing a smartphone game. That's very good because Slayaway Camp has been available for iOS and Android for a long time. However, the big difference is in the amount of content, as this PlayStation 4 version contains over 300 levels and there are more than 60 different killers available to play. On the mobile phone approximately half of this number is present.

The gameplay is also quite simple. In each level you'll find your killer again on a kind of beautifully decorated chessboard, along with all the victims you have to make. Then you should run the left analogue stick in straight lines across the board to cover your unsuspecting victims. When you kill anyone, you must go to the end to go to the next level. In terms of gameplay, I find this most similar to the arrow doolhof from the oldest Pokémon games, but then again in a new setting.

As you walk through these different levels, you are free to play coins. Each time you finish a level, a slider will be on your screen again and again. To do this, you need to click on the right moment to complete a final kill and receive additional coins. These coins are eventually redeemable for new killers and new ways to kill your victims. In this way you will be able to release more and more opportunities, which will benefit the diversity.

Barbarian scenes

At the start of the game you get two different options. For example, it's possible to play the family-friendly game, which means there will be no blood and gore in the game. In addition, there is the bloodthirsty variant, showing just everything, and the game does not bother rough situations. The conversion of your victims is done by means of cut-scenes, which are displayed randomly each time. The ways in which your victims can die are very varied, which makes it entertaining.

It is possible that your victim is killed by a swarm of bees. Also, victims can be beheaded by skating or even being overtaken by a street sweeper. With your coins collected, it is also possible to release multiple Gorepacks, which add new ways of liquidating to the game. Because of this, you keep playing for something, because when you've seen an execute for the third time, the fun is back. Additionally, you can release new characters, as well as playing Skullface in the skin of a Gremlin, Jimsaw or a murderous Santa.

Breinkrakers

In addition to the various areas that are rich in the game, the puzzles will be more difficult as well. There are sometimes police officers on the playground where you can not stand still, landmines are on the map or there are parts of the level surrounded by water. When you make a wrong move, the game is over and the final credits appear. Do not be annoyed, because with L1 it is possible to return a step back and with L2 you can restart the whole level.
Regularly, you also have to send your victims a place to move to another. When you stand next to a target, it scares them. Then he or she clears another side and returns to it. This is necessary because you can make tricks that otherwise are not possible to complete the level. For example, just like chessing, you need to think ahead of a few steps and start rebooting levels more often before finding the right solution.

Pretty pricey

One final comment I would like to make about Slayaway Camp is about the price. The game is available for €16.99 on PlayStation Store, a fairly high amount for an extended smartphone game if you ask. Whenever you compare prices, Slayaway Camp is available for iOS and Android for the smallest of $3.49. Okay, you get about half what you get on the console, but you pay only a quarter of the amount and that difference is really big.

Conclusion

Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut is quite entertaining for a puzzle game. There are enough levels to play and there are extra games to play. The gameplay is quite simple and the difficulty is especially in the varied levels you need to know. All in all, in my view, this is a real smartphone game that did not necessarily have to appear for the PlayStation 4, regardless of the original style and the bloodthirsty insert. In addition, there is a fairly high price tag on the game that you only pay when you go for the Platinum Trophy.

➕ Pretty much content
➕ Original style
➕ Breinkrakers
➕ Brutal executions...

➖ ...they are going to get bored
➖ A real smartphone game
➖ Too expensive
