Earlier this year, Guerrilla Games brought us the fantastic Horizon: Zero Dawn. An adventure in which the nice Aloy was looking for the history of our civilization. She discovered that the machines were not for nothing, she discovered the danger that the world threatened and she was able to push the head. The universe of Aloy is big and long not all stories have been told. Similarly, the story of the Banuk tribe, living in the cold north-east of the world. In The Frozen Wilds i dive into that story and i faced with a new threat.

Enjoy as usual

Everyone who has played Horizon: Zero Dawn will say that discovering the world was a wonderful affair. The world offered many different environments, beautiful villages, settlements, vistas, nature areas and much more. Of course, you could climb snowy mountain peaks, but that is pale at the new area that you will enter The Frozen Wilds. This area is located in the north-east of the 'ordinary' world and through a mountain pass where you will have to climb, you can enter the area where you will find a Banuk settlement.

The new area starts on the southernmost side, but the further you pull the area, the colder and whiter it becomes. It almost always snow, lakes are completely or partly frozen, the volcano continues to spit and the low snow becomes the more you draw north if it's thicker. The area around you is quite big, so it will take a while before you've seen everything. Of course, here is also a Tallneck that even takes away the map of the clouds, so you can see the routes. It's more fun, however, to just go exploring, because Guerrilla again shows that they can create a truly beautiful playing world.

The area around you is based on Yellowstone National Park, located in the north of the United States. Well-known elements, such as the varied colored pee, geysers, strange rock formations and more will obviously be found here. Just like in the regular game we caught ourselves again regularly to take the time to look around for a while. It is beautiful, varied and, despite the white layer, enjoy time and again. In short, the discovery aspect that was so fun in the regular game has not been lost. Although almost everything is white, you will still be able to enjoy many views.

The Banuk tribe and danger

In this expansion you will be dealing with the Banuk tribe. A tribe that obviously also occurred in the regular game, but actually hardly got an explanation. In this extension you will learn to know the tribe very well and you soon notice that they have deviant habits. Honor is very important and they have a constant urge to prove themselves. The Banuk are all okay to communicate, but real fans of 'foreigners' are not. Yet, Aloy soon finds that they are at greater risk than they realize themselves and that's the moment the story is going on.

Of course, in the area where the Banuk lives, there are machines, but for some time there are the mechanical pillars that cause machines to be affected by a so-called demon. As a result, the machines are a lot stronger and many Banuk members have to die with death. Aloy, of course, has a little more knowledge than the average resident of the entire country and she decides to find out what's going on and soon she realizes that it's wrong. Not only are the machines stronger, there are also new machines that are even more dangerous than the average Thunderjaw.

Much more about the story and the Banuk tribe i will not give up now, because the expansion is definitely worth playing. So it's going to be experienced by yourself. The story is good for an hour or eight of gameplay, as long as you play on one piece. But just like in the regular game, you get to do with many side missions and edge activities, which makes the progress slower and you experience extra adventures. This causes the clock to hit an hour or 14 to 15 before you are actually done. So in terms of playing time, i have nothing to complain about an expansion that costs two decades, very neat.

Novelties

As mentioned just before, you get a new story with The Frozen Wilds that plays somewhere in the overall story of the regular game. The red line is good for a good number of hours playing and the side missions give just a little more background to the tribe. It is therefore worth pending to do everything because you will do all the places more and you will also know the Banuk well. Of course, the area itself is also completely new, but you are free to return to the original world at any time. In this sense, the expansion has been integrated into the basic game in a practical way.

Apart from that integration and mentioned novelties, you will encounter even more new issues. In addition to the known machines that are stronger by the demon, you will also find new machines and one of them is quite impressive. The defeat of such a new machine also requires some time, but Aloy can happily develop during this adventure. For example, the level cap has been raised to level 60 and you will also get several new weapons. These new weapons may be damn useful to address certain (new) machines. In addition, Aloy can still earn new skills in order to release new skills.

Conclusion

The Frozen Wilds is a great extension that is definitely worth it. The new story is very interesting and the mainquest is good for many hours of fun. Fortunately, after all, there's something to do, so you'll be on your way to the 15 hours. A very neat playtime if you ask me and that the world is a pleasure to explore. Your discoveries are fascinating, both in terms of locations and stories, and of course, Aloy's very subtle humor is not lacking. The gameplay is a bit more challenging by the stronger (and new) machines, which gives it a great added value. If you enjoyed Horizon: Zero Dawn, you can buy The Frozen Wilds blindly.

Thanks for reading.
