Do shooters hear at home on the Switch? That question can be asked if you take Rogue Troopers on the Nintendo's latest console. That you might be better off playing another platform you can read in this Rogue Trooper Redux Review.

In Rogue Trooper you crawl in the blue heroes shoes. The shooter is based on same-name comics, whose first game appeared 9 years ago. Developer Rebellion seemed time to bring the shooter to the current generation platforms for a low price. For a few tens, you will get the game home.

Not made for the Switch

I tested Rogue Trooper on the Switch. After all, the consoles have enough shooting games, and Wolfenstein and Call of Duty recently released a lot of enemies on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The Switch, on the other hand, has somewhat less competition. In addition, it sounds like a music in the ears: banging behind a big 50 inch TV and on the way in the train.

Unfortunately, i can help you out of that dream right away. Because playing a shooter on the Switch, at least for Rogue Trooper, does not work very well. You have the idea of playing a shooter on a PS Vita, and at the same time it did not feel good at all. The control is too slow and the accuracy with which you can control with a controller is ten times better than the Switch's small display and corresponding controller. Of course you can take a Pro Controller, but how portable are you still busy?

My advice is to play Rogue Trooper on a big screen and then you can better go for a handheld version because of achievements and trophies. Because the game must be part of it, in addition to the gameplay of course. You can forget that story, it's not about writing home. Just read the comics!

Simple but outdated gameplay

In gameplay Rogue Trooper was not so bad 9 years ago. Delicious enemies clash with occasional moments that you did to the glorious days of Doom and Wolfenstein. It is mainly a matter of just over 10 levels and various enemies to help with soap.

The gameplay is extremely simple. You have some weapons that you can exchange between and the mission is simple: popping! That shooting works fine with a Pro Controller and makes you feel like working with an old shooter.

The system goes a bit deeper than you would expect, because Rogue Trooper offers an upgrade system. Well done, but it's striking to see how enemies can loot and spend points. This allows you to upgrade various weapons, but also always buy enough medicines to pick up yourself. It's funny, but in terms of possibilities and appearance, no more of this time.

Few alternatives and few highlights

The feeling that it is no longer of this age is continuous. Rogue Trooper is actually too monotonous. Although the game is easy to "slip down" its missions are quite boring with many same enemies, with the AI not always writing home. With some simple tools, such as duplicate your male to use as a derivative maneuver, you can break any enemy or bombard any enemy.

And then you've reached a level within a quarter of a quarter. There is little change. The highlight is undoubtedly formed halfway through an on-rails level, something that fits the game. Because the gameplay itself is not strong and no more of this time, the on-rails section is the best thing to do, run smoothly brainlessly on everything that's over!

Conclusion

More Rogue Trooper does not actually offer. We know Rebellion as a solid developer with cool co-op games like Zombie Army Trilogy. Rogue Trooper still offers co-op (not the campaign) but that's something we could not have tested for lack of an extra code.
Is that a big miss? Probably not. Most will see it soon when you start Rogue Trooper: a "laughing" game to play in between. But above all, no more than that. It clearly does not reflect the dignity of time, with monotonous missions and simple AI. And let's be honest: the price tag of 25 or 30 euros is also way too much of the good. This makes the quality-price ratio far-reaching.

➕ A nice on-rails piece
➖ Does not play well on the Switch
➖ Dated
➖ Monotonous
