UNDERTALE : THE GAME REVIEW
Hi steemians. Greeting to you this morning. I know you might not like the cover photo and name of this game, but it's worth playing and today I have decided to make a review on it. I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for my next game review update.

History
Undertale was created by one man Toby Foxx, who people would recognize the name as the man who did the Earthbound Halloween Hack a while ago which first had the Megalovania track as a Final Boss track (Do your research people! Stop claiming that someone took the track from Undertale! The hack and game were made by the same person!).

Undertale was first shown as a demo during a livestream that caught a lot of peoples attention, a Kickstarter was then announced for the game with $5,000 being the target goal, by the end of it, the game reached $51,000 from many gamer who were interested. In September 2015, the game was launched to Steam for £6.99, and then moments later, made the internet EXPLODE with how it was done, from Temmies to Pacifists to Megalovania, Undertale was on everyone's Radar... except my own.
Personal History
I was kept in the dark for most of the time, I don't pay attention to One Man Let's Players like Johnson and Emeka who have all played the game, and I never heard the game be said around where I was in Benin city, I somehow managed to avoid Under tale for a while, until i thought of reviewing games on steemit.
I met a guy who is a Fanatic of Undertale and highly recommended I played the game, I was skeptical at first because of all the times I've been told to play games, they've been rubbish or too boring, he then told me to listen to Megalovania, which I did, and rather enjoyed it, then in the recommended videos I saw all of the Comic Dubs and Memes and thought "Jessss!!! how big IS this game???" I bought it during the Steam Christmas sale and was surprised with how little storage it needed, I played it for a few minutes... and got bored. I played it again later on and accidentally killed Toriel, then last week I finally said "Right, this time I'll finally complete the game". So I did the whole Pacifist run and did not regret it, Undertale is now one of my favourite games of all time.
Spoiler warning
Okay, for a game so recent, it's obvious a Spoiler warning is here, but this is different, if you want to fully enjoy Undertale, it's HIGHLY recommended you go in blind, or you won't be able to enjoy the original experience, so please don't read the rest of this review if you haven't played Undertale yet. Go and buy the game if you really want to know about it and do not forget to upvote this post 100 percent. lolz.
Story (Pacifist) Part 1
The story starts with a backstory of when Humans and Monsters lived together, then a war broke out and all of the monsters were either Killed, or sent underground by the humans, years pass by and a Gender Neutral child by the name of Frisk (His proper name, but you can name him to what you choose), ventured up the mountain above The Underground and fell down a hole.
He then wakes up and meets Flowey the Flower, a talking Flower that tries to kill Frisk saying that the world is nothing but "Kill or Be Killed". Frisk is then saved by a Goat Mum by the name of Toriel, whom is a Gatekeeper of the Ruins -the first area we're in- she explains how it's best to not fight and talk to the monsters because they all have unique personalities, you try it on a Dummy and proceed, Toriel shows you puzzles and then we go to her house. You try to leave but she stops you saying that if you do, Asgore will Kill you and leave the Underground, however after fighting and sparing her, she then gives you one final Hug telling you to be strong.
You then leave the ruins and encounter Sans and Papyrus the Skeleton Bros, Sans being the lazy, Cocky one, while Papyrus is the brave and dedicated one (Or Determined I should say), also interesting facts, they're names and texts reside fonts, Sans being Comic Sans, and Papyrus being.... Papyrus. But anyway, as you move on, you encounter Undyne the Undying, an Amphibious Female Fish that works under Asgores orders to capture and kill humans... even if she fails at killing you. As you escape her and go into a lab, you encounter Alphys, a Dinosaur looking monster, whom is also a Royal Scientist, she claims that she's been watching you and re-programmed a Robot to Kill you. enter Mettaton, a One-Wheeled Robot that just LOVES to be on Television, he (Yes it's a he) gives Frisks a set of questions, every wrong one answered, Frisks gets hurt to the point of death, I should also note that during these quizzes we find out that Alphys has Romantic Feelings for Undyne.
As you proceed on, you then encounter Muffet, a Human Sized Spider that tries to kill you at first, but then stops when she finds out that you donated money to the Spiders in the ruins. Through more puzzles and escaping Mettaton traps, you give him one more encounter, he then claims that it wasn't through his purpose to kill you, it was all Alphys's intentions just to have her time to shine in the adventure, he then also claims that he purposely messed with some traps to show some REAL Drama, but you have enough of that and watch his battery drain when his ratings reach 10,000+.
Story (Lore)
A human fell down into the Underground before, and was a girl by the name of Chara, she was injured from her fall and cried out in pain, a small goat child by the name of Asriel Dreemurr found Chara and brought her home to his parents Asgore and Toriel Dreemurr.
They cared for Chara and let her live with them, all of them settling like family and seeing Chara as a Daughter, with all of it seeming like peace and harmony.
However, Chara got deadly ill one day and asked to see the flowers of her home before she died, when her passing happened, Asriel was so saddened, he absorbed her soul and went to the Surface carrying the corpse of Chara in his arms.
He carried Chara to the village that had the flowers and rested her on the flowerbed, then panic rose in the village as the humans all thought Asriel killed Chara, and they all attacked him with their weapons.
Instead of fighting back, Asriel walked back to the Underground carrying Chara, where he fell and died from bloodloss.
With much Despair, Asgore declared that all humans who fall down will die, knowing that their souls will free the Underground and end the suffering of the monsters.
Story (Pacifist) Part 2
After learning the backstory, you get judged by Sans, this doesn't really do anything to affect the plot Perse (Unless you're doing Genocide) it's just there to comment on how you did in the game with the route you pick.
After getting judged, you encounter Asgore and you have no choice but to fight him after he gets out his spear and literally shatters the Mercy button right in front of you, at the end of the fight, whether you kill or Spare him, Flowey will appear and crash your game. Upon re-opening the game, you see Flowey has taken control with Six human souls and tries to kill you under the name Omega Flowey. When you beat him the game will end there... unless you've doe the Pacifist run. If you didn't kill anyone and went on the date with Papyrus and hung out with Undyne, Flowey will appear and recommend you visit Alphys.
On your way there, you get a Phone call from Undyne whom gives you a letter asking you to deliver it to Alphys, it turns out to be a location which Alphys herself thinks your asking her out on a date. During the date, Undyne shows up and the true feelings are shown, the two get together with Undyne throwing Alphys into a Bin telling her to train. After that you then go to the Lab to speak to Alphys and take the lift to find her, but this then leads you to the True Lab hidden underneath, it's an empty desolate place with horrible mutations, it turns out those mutations are a bunch of people and monsters formed into mutations, which Alphys was behind the work of and kept it secret. After talking to her, you're then sent to Asgore and go to fight him again, but this time everyone comes up to stop him and speak to you, thanks to Papyrus, who said that a Talking Flower told him about it.
The Talking Flower was indeed Flowey who tricked him to get every monster there and kill everyone, in doing so he takes all of there souls and shows his true self as Asriel Dreemurr who presumes to attack you, thinking your Chara (It's the true name to pick, but he will say any other name you chose).
After fighting some more, you spare him to the point where he cries, he then frees all of the souls, breaking the Barrier from the human world and walks off, you then wake up with the main characters around you and you all walk out to the Surface together ending the game. Bloody hell.... this was a lengthy story to write
Gameplay:
The game is an RPG meaning loads of enemy encounters, but it is unique in its own sense, the game is turn based yes, but the attacks change from the enemy, there's no pattern to remember as you guide a heart around to avoid enemy attacks, whenever it gets hit, you take damage.
You have Four options:
- FIGHT, the button that you press to fight (Obviously)
- ACT: Where you talk to the enemy to get to the point where you spare them
- ITEM: Which has the weapons and healing items
- MERCY: Where you Spare the enemy, or Flee. If you see the enemies name in Yellow Text, then that means you can spare them, HOW you get to sparing them is all about how you ACT, and with the right buttons, you can Spare every enemy and boss making you a Pacifist, giving you the best ending of the game.
Other routes:
There are Neutral and Genocide routes, but you will be punished for it, I'm not reviewing them here, because after completing the Pacifist route, I outright refuse to kill anyone in the game, though the story doesn't really change that much, except for the fact that hardly anyone is there in the Genocide route as they've all ran away from you knowing you're a soul-less killer
Likes: The game is brilliant, perfect in every way, the music is fantastic, the graphics are simple but easy on the eyes, the dialogue is witty and funny, and is deep with its story. And there's no sidequests which means no backtracking! Plus, for a game that has controller support, it's better for me
Dislikes: Nothing
Overall
If you ignored my spoiler warning and read the whole review then get the game, you will love it... just eatch out for the fanbase, I'll give the game 10/10.
I'm fully aware I missed more information, but I did that on purpose, I knew people wouldn't listen to the spoiler warning so I kept some details out, don't spoil it yourselves
