This is one I’ve been wanting to do for a long time now, it took me so long to beat it but on the bright side we’ve got a lot to cover..

History

Resurrection for the PS Vita and PS4. For all of you religious types out there this game is not sacrilegious in any way so don’t feel like you can’t give it a chance.

god Eater Resurrection was originaly released in Japan under the name God Eater for the psp and was released February 4, 2010 in America as God Eater Burst. I couldn’t find the release date for the European version of the game, but God Eater Burst was released in Europe for the psp as well, but they never got the Resurrection remake, but you guys did get God Eater 2: Rage Burst so that’s still awesome.

Japan also got a God Eater: Burst release, it makes me wonder what differences the original game had.

Story

20 years ago, a new cell lifeform was discovered on Earth. It rapidly multiplied and quickly evolved into monsters in the form of ancient gods. These beings are known as aragami. There is no hope for the humans but a team of soldier known as God Eaters do their best to keep the human race alive as along as possible.

Rating

Both games were rated T for Teen in America and PEGI 12 in Europe for blood, language, suggestive themes, violence, and use of alcohol; with the additional warning of partial nudity added in Resurrection. Now this is a tricky one. One of the biggest differences between the two games is how child friendly Resurrection is.

There is almost no swearing at all in the game, there still is blood, if suggestive themes don’t mean partial nudity than they are probably referring to sexual intercourse, if that’s the case then don’t worry about it one of the characters at the end of the game makes a joke referring to whether a married couple would have kids or not. More likely they are probably referring to the characters’ outfits.

A lot if not all the females wear suggestive clothing but in my opinion it makes them unique and adds life to each character. Partial nudity pretty much ties in with suggestive clothing, and yes some characters and by some I mean one character in the game likes to drink beer but he never gets drunk off of it and there’s only one scene where he actually drinks it and all you do in this game is fight so, there is violence in this game. I do agree with the rating on this game.

This game is a game for Teens and above. Not just because it is filled with all of that ^ but also because this is one of those games with a confusing and brain rattling storyline, one that a younger child probably wouldn’t be able to decipher.

Differences

One major difference in this game is also one of my dislikes about the game. Like I mentioned earlier the remake of the game is more child friendly.

Because of this, a good portion of the dialogue in this game has been changed, if you haven’t played Burst this would not upset you at all but hearing a line go from “Whatever shows up just slash it to hell!” to “Why live by the big list of rules when I can live by mine; slash the things until they stop breathing!” is a pretty big letdown.
Another big change is voice acting which makes sense seeing is how the game is five years old and they were working on a sequel at the same time.
This doesn’t really bother me too much save one character; a “crazy” scientist whose voice goes from (for lack of a better word) smart sounding to helium was upsetting.

Characters

A lot of the characters’ personalities have been altered as well, Kanon being the most obvious. Kanon is character I don’t use very often because she shoots her teammates more than the enemies, but when she would hit you in Burst she would say something like, “Will you get your body out of my line of fire?” While in Resurrection she says, “Sorry! But I have to shoot and you were just…sorry.” Yeah those are two different personalities there.

The other characters haven’t changed too much. Kota is another character I’ve noticed though. He’s supposed to be the idiot/silly one of the group and they really show it in Resurrection.

I believe that’s what they were going for in Burst as well but he never comes off that way. In burst he acts more like a friend, someone who tries to make the most out of every moment and cheer everyone up.
Another add on to Resurrection were more ways to customize your character from hairstyles to color, to accessories, I believe more outfits were added as well. Also, alternative outfits for NPC’s can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store for free. However, these aren’t really alternative costumes as they are separate characters. Meaning you can have two of the same character on the battle field wearing different colored clothing. More equipment was added too.

URGENT MISSION

Urgent Missions were also added to Resurrection. Urgent missions are harder missions than regular missions sometimes they are even two or three missions long and once you start one you can’t charge your equipment or buy any more items until you have complete it.
Some missions in Burst require you to go solo unless you are in multiplayer mode, some of these missions allow you to use more than one character in Resurrection.
One good thing they added to Resurrection is the ability to eat more than one enemy at a time.
One other difference between the games is that you can upgrade your NPC’s in Resurrection to make them stronger but they are limited. In Burst your characters are only as strong as they need to be in whichever chapter you’re working on. The same goes for Resurrection but you can still give them buffs.

Multiplayer Mode: Both games are multiplayer and can be played online or with someone in range and all missions can be beaten with 1-4 players. I’m not sure if PlayStation still runs online play for the PSP though, so you may not be able to play online with anyone on the PSP version anymore. Players also have their own avatar cards which are basically avatars you can collect and use when you are playing by yourself if a player decides exchange cards with you. This game also allows voice chat and messaging.

Gameplay

The battle system in this game is different from any other I’ve seen. Your character can switch between a sword and gun at will. Your weapon itself is an arigami and has the ability to eat other arigami (more like bite other arigami). If you eat an arigami that is still alive then you will receive a special bullet that is different and unique to each individual arigami. Some of these bullets are stronger than your own bullets.

To explain the way bullets work, in simple terms you have a magic bar that can be filled with a magic injection or by using melee attacks on an arigami. Without magic you can’t use your gun. You can hold a variety of different bullets and can change them at will during a battle as long as you have magic you have infinite bullets.

There are also a variety of different melee weapons you can use, from swords to hammers. You can also upgrade your weapons as and add skill buffs to them. Also NPC’s in this game have to be upgraded

Anime

credit

For those of you who don’t know what anime is it’s basically Japanese cartoons (think Pokémon). There was an anime series made of the first fourth of the game, the creators said they were going to continue it but I don’t know if they will or not. The anime for the most part, follow the game pretty well with additional differences. The music in the anime is a mix of the first game second game and an original soundtrack. Because of this I believe that some of the differences in the anime could tie into the second game but I haven’t beaten it yet and when I do I’ll keep you guys updated. There has not been an English Dub to the anime yet so

Likes

I loved the storyline and the gameplay in this game. The gameplay is comfortable and easy to get used to whether you’re playing on the Vita or PS4, the PSP version has the same controls as the Vita minus the touch screen (which is only used for text chatting between multiple players). The storyline is a little confusing but it’s incredible if you take the time to understand it. Capcom did not rush this game at all every character has a story to tell and you don’t miss a thing. Also this is optional but if you talk to people before and after missions you get a taste of what life is like living at headquarters on a normal day for the characters.

Dislikes: Read the differences.

Released Date

Anyway, God Eater: Resurrection was released October 29, 2015 in America.

This game was only downloadable, you could not buy it at retail, so to speak. You could get a free download code for it if you buy a new copy of God Eater 2: Rage Burst . yeah. That was then. You can buy from Amazon and other game shop..

The game was a bit weak in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but there was something missing and the terrible thing is I don't know what that "something" is exactly. I didn't know about the differences in script though! Kanon does sound different. Sounds like they tried to make her more apologetic this time around. Has me wondering how she's suppose to sound in the Japanese version and if only western releases had changes like that.
