History

Development almost immediately began after Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic Team wanted to add new things to it for Sonic's 10th Anniversary title, such as the new character Shadow the Hedgehog.

It started on the Dreamcast as an E for Everyone and DK 3+ (This was before PEGI became a thing), it was moved to the Nintendo GameCube with a same rating in all continents, and then ported to Xbox Live, PSN and Steam with again, all ratings the same (But with a PEGI 3 for Europe if you were to buy the code in GAME).

Game Story

Yes, there are two stories, one where you play as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, and the Dark Story where you play as Shadow The Hedgehog, Rouge The Bat and Dr Eggman

I'll begin with Hero. It starts with Sonic being arrested and sent into a G.U.N Helicopter and he breaks out and apparently took everyone out on board, he rips a piece of Helicopter off and flies down to.....Station Square(?) After a level and boss he meets Shadow and it's here we find out that the Military and Police are confusing Shadow for Sonic.

I'm not gonna ramble on so save that for the Dislikes section...... Sonic gets captured again and sent to Prison Island where Tails flies there to rescue him, and Amy is somehow there...apparently, Tails turns his plane into a Mech and it's here we see Dr Eggman here in his own Mech and him and Tails have a nice game of Fisty Cuffs while Amy sneaks into the base and breaks Sonic out.

Sonic runs off and bumps heads with Shadow again, they have a small playground fight (I say that with Shadow's "I'm the Coolest" line XD) and then Sonic finds out the island will blow up, so he flees and so does Shadow, meanwhile Knuckles foolishly breaks the Master Emerald and is on a big treasure hunt for it.

He runs into Sonic, Tails and Amy and Tails apparently hacks into the Presidents computer and it turns out that Eggman is threatening to destroy the Earth with a cannon after he blew up half of the Moon, Tails and Sonic jump in the Limo and they find out where Eggman's base is so they leave for it. And then we see a huge Space Shuttle in the Pyramid which is Eggman's base, and why Eggman needed it in the first place is not explained at all. Knuckles crashes the shuttle into the Ark - a giant Science lab in space used to create weapons of great power, but it got cancelled - and splits from the group while Tails pops out a Fake Chaos Emerald he made, he stated it had the same wavelengths and properties of a real emerald but Eggman ain't buying that and threatened Sonic to hand over the "real" emerald with Amy at Gun Point, Sonic puts the Fake Emerald down with a pod landing on him and the Emerald and they get sent to space where it blows up killing Sonic.......not really, he somehow managed to use Chaos Control - an Ability he saw ONCE(!) when Shadow used it to escape their meeting in Station Square(?) - he runs into Knuckles who rebuilt his Master Emerald and was going to the Eclipse Cannon to put the Fake Emerald in as that would destroy the cannon, but he runs into Shadow and they have a footrace with Sonic the victor and he destroys something outside making Tails and Amy happy knowing he is alive, ending the Hero Story.

Dark Story

It starts off with Dr Eggman breaking into G.U.N base to get some Top Secret files on his Granddad Professor Gerald Robotnik, he accidentally awakens the project of the Ultimate Life Form known as Project Shadow, Shadow refers to Eggman as his master and grants him a wish, Eggman doesn't say the wish on Camera but they go to the Space Colony Ark where Shadow shows Eggman the Eclipse Cannon, a cannon that when has all 7 Chaos Emeralds, it has the strength to destroy an entire Planet, it's pretty much the Death Star with a Battery supply, anyway, Rouge The Bat intervenes saying they need her help as she is a professional Jewel Hunter, without asking how she got up to the Ark, the two agree and the go to Prison Island, it's also worth mentioning that Rouge is actually an undercover agent for G.U.N, just putting that out there now.

They reach Prison Island and Rouge goes to get the Chaos Emeralds while Shadow and Eggman break into Prison Island as they plan to blow it up, then Amy comes in and hugs Shadow from behind confusing him for Sonic.......Sigh Tails comes in and dukes it out with Eggman while Shadow goes to set the bomb when he runs into Sonic on his way back, Rouge gets stuck in the vault where she's rescued by Shadow.......Sigh okay seriously she works for G.U.N, why would they lock her in? They know nothing about the bombs so they could easily let her out and give her the Chaos Emeralds, she could just wait for a bit and go to Eggman to avoid Suspicion, but whatever, Eggman uses the power he has to Blow up half of the moon and send a threat to the President, the rest from here is pretty much explained in the Hero story, but Shadow wins the race, Eggman puts the last emerald in and a big DANGER is seen on the screen ending the Dark Story.

Last Story

No surprises here really, the Last Story segment starts with the DANGER sign meaning something and the Ark begins to crash to Earth.no.Mobius.no the Planet below with a WMV file of Gerald Robotnik showing up stating he somehow had the time to reprogram the Ark to crash land to.

The Planet as revenge for G.U.N killing his Granddaughter Maria during a Raid that happened on the station 50 years Ago, this is when Shadow happens, his memories were reprogrammed for revenge but him and Maria were Best Friends, so he plans to destroy the Planet in her wish, as she just says "Shadow, I beg of you" before the Flashback ends, but we then find out that was she fully said was "Shadow, I beg of you, the People below, give them a chance to be Happy" she then dies, Shadow gets sent down in a Pod Maria launched and the Flashback ends, so Shadow realizes he made a mistake and him and Sonic go down to the Cellar of the Ark where a replica of the Master Emerald Shrine is there along with the Seven Chaos Emeralds, then a big Lizard literally falls from nowhere, it's the Biolizard and it's the prototype of the Ultimate Life Form, yes, Gerald went from Giant arse Lizard to a 3ft 3 Hedgehog......okay then, the Lizard gets defeated and it uses a final attempt to Merge with the Ark to send it crashing down. Shadow and Sonic go Super and defeat the Lizard with Shadow falling down to The Planet after the fight, I assume he had no power left or forgot to eat his breakfast, I don't know those are my only conclusions here! The credits role on a nice piano piece, Sonic says Sayonara to Shadow ending Sonic Adventure 2

The characters from both sides play the same so I'm not going separate here, Sonic and Shadow play fine, the speed is there, the Spindash works as it did in SA1 and the homing Attack works fine, new to the mechanics is Rail Grinding, you jump on a rail and grind, you hold B or X to crouch and increase your speed while keeping your balance, if you don't you will lose your speed and your score will go, you can perform the somersault that breaks crates and you can do the Lightspeed Dash, unlike Sonic Adventure 1, you don't need to Wind it up, just tap X near a path of rings to Zip along them, the wind-up formular is back for the enemy chains, you need to hold the direction you want to hit the enemies otherwise Sonic and Shadow will orbit around them, like a poor Chewing Gum Advert.

Both of them are in their Mechs and it's a Shoot 'em up, I don't like them that much as it makes no sense for Tails to be in his, Eggman yes maybe, but not Tails, he was put in there last minute so I'll let them off slightly, you tap X to shoot but holding it allows you to lock onto multiple targets which can increase your score, you have a health bar which gets replenished with Rings almost making it useless, almost, it does keep you alive without your rings but goes down quicker.

Treasure hunting, they both glide and punch and kick and dig their way for piece of the Master Emerald or Keys or Chaos Emeralds, they control alright, but the radar or worse from Sonic Adventure 1, it only focuses on one Emerald piece at a time dragging the level on more, you can be right next to an Emerald piece and it won't trigger off the radar as it wouldn't be the one you're meant to find yet making you go and find the other one before it, other than that the only other complaint is that the levels are HUGE at the end, I mean seriously have fun in them, you will get lost.

Dislikes

The story, it rubs me the wrong way, especially the ridiculous plot element about the Military confusing Shadow for Sonic, they have SO MANY differences! It's ridiculous! And Sonic somehow Learning Chaos Control, nu-uh I'm not believing that Plot Convenience for a second

Overall: I know I'm missing other things like Boss Fights and Chao Garden, but I don't want this to be as long as my Sonic '06 Review, I'm sorry, but overall the game is okay, definitely fun for you to get, maybe under a Tenner. So stay tuned for more games review.
