So many Ports?

Just to mention that the Ace Attorney series has been with Nintendo since the GBA, the first three games were Japan only for the GameBoy Advance, then got ported to the DS along with a western release, the three then got ported to the Nintendo Wii, then to iOS and 3DS as trilogy remakes, phew! They don't really change throughout the ages, it's still the same sprite game from the start, just with an extra case from the DS onwards.
Personal History: Now I went the longest time knowing nothing about Ace Attorney, I saw the memes and references, but had no idea what they were on about. Then when I was browsing the eShop, I happened upon "Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies", downloaded the Demo out of curiosity, and bought the game immediately when it came out a few days after, and the rest is history after that.

Game Rating

PEGI 7, T for Teen and B, in all honesty I'm surprised the game is PEGI 7 considering what the game is about, but that's besides the point.

Story

You play as Phoenix Wright (Yes I'm using the English names), a rookie Solicitor in Los Angel- I mean Japan who takes his first case defending his best friend Larry Butz who was charged for Murdering his alleged Girlfriend.
After finding the true murderer Frank Sawhit (Sense the pun), Phoenix's mentor, Mia Fey asks about how he owes Larry for an apparent debt, and decides to chat over drinks; this then goes onto case 2, where Mia Fey was murdered and her younger sister Maya Fey is charged for killer her.
Phoenix picks up Maya's defence after Marvin Grossberg (a friend of the Feys) refuses to and finds out he's against Miles Edgelord- I mean Edgeworth, a Demon prosecutor who has never lost a case in his five year career, but Phoenix knows him from somewhere else...

During the case you also encounter April May, a female employee of Bluecorp, which, after some cross-examination, you learn she's been wiretapping Mia's phone for Redd White, the CEO.

After meeting with Redd White, you learn he was the true killer, but because of his high power via Blackmail, he tells you he's untouchable, and that he has dirt on everyone, which leads to most of them (including celebrities) to commit suicide, he then tells the Police that Phoenix is the true killer and that he confessed.

After Phoenix is thrown in jail, he then decides to defend himself in court, with Redd White coming up to the stand to give Testimony, thanks to Mia's ghost who possesses Maya Fey thanks to Spirit Channeling, as she gives you the extra Mmph to win the trial with Redd White finally confessing his guilt, thus winning the case and declaring yourself innocent.
After a break, you're put into case 3, where you have to defend Will Powers, the lead roll of the popular Children's show the Steel Samurai, that Maya is a fan of (she's 17), Phoenix and Maya go to the studio and don't find enough evidence to help prove Will's innocence.
But the trial gets pushed to another day thanks to some inconsistent evidence you push through bluffing and you meet Dee Vasquez, the leader of what looks to be a Mafia, Phoenix frames her for murder before the trial begins and then her goons appear, threatening to kill Phoenix and Maya, thanks to Detective Dick Gumshoe, they get saved and Dee is brought into the trial for testimony.
The trial almost looks to be over for you, but then it carries on from Miles Edgeworth who is siding with Phoenix, and then the truth is revealed that Dee did indeed kill Jack Hammer, the victim.
At the end, Edgeworth approaches Phoenix in the Defence lobby and says that he doesn't want to see him again.

The final case takes place on Christmas Day, and Edgeworth has been arrested for Murder, you go to the Detention Center and Edgeworth refuses to let Phoenix help him.

After some questioning and investigation, Edgeworth finally agrees to let Phoenix defend him, but warns of Manfred Von Karma, his old mentor who has never lost a case in his 40 year career, but that doesn't stop Phoenix from carrying on the case.
The trial begins and is adjourned to the next day thanks to Manfred's witness Lotta Hart, who confesses she didn't actually SEE the crime as she was looking for Gourdy, a creature of the lake.
Boxing Day comes round and it's then explained to the player about why Phoenix knows Edgeworth, how they were childhood friends because of Phoenix getting accused Edgeworth's lunch money of $38 (THAT'S for school lunches?!).

Even though Edgeworth knows he didn't do it because there wasn't any evidence, as he followed his Dad's footsteps who was a Solicitor, but then an accident happened back then which resulted in Edgeworth's Dad getting murdered in a lift, then the killer walked free which made Edgeworth see the tainted world of the law and became a Prosecutor in his adult life.
The case carries on and Edgeworth is declared innocent, but then he confesses his guilt of a previous case that involved his Dad's murder, the DL-6 incident, with this day being the last day before it's closed for good.
As the case goes on, Phoenix accuses Von Karma for the Murder and through a metal detector, the truth comes out, and Edgeworth walks a free man.

The game ends with Maya going to catch her train back to the Kurain village for her spirit training, leaving Phoenix alone as she didn't think she was any help. but when he shows her the bullet that won the case she grabbed from Von Karma earlier, it then ends with a happy goodbye and the game ends... not really
The DS version adds a new case to show off the DS's potential with the Touch Screen and Micrphone, the head of Prosecutors was arrested with Phoenix called in for defence by her younger Sister, the real killer turned out to be a western cowboy detective.
This one doesn't have as much drama built-up to it, I felt it was just there for the sake of showing off the new DS stuff.

Gameplay:

For a visual novel, it has more "Gameplay" to it, aside from reading, you have words in testimonies to read and keep track off, along with evidence to skim through and present at the correct moments, that is pretty much it for the trials, but in-between them your questioning people and walking to new locations, as well as investigating scenes for evidence.
The downside for this is that when there's so many locations, the game doesn't really give you a good idea on where to go, especially if you went back to the game after a while, and even then you can examine EVERY location, implying you have to do so for plot progression, when that's not the case.

Something like that can slow down the pace with the DS and 3DS, you can say the callouts "Hold it!", "Objection!" and "Take That!" when given the opportunity, and on the Nintedo Wii you can swing the Wii remote for those shouts and even hear them come in through the Wii remote speaker.
Likes: The sprite animation is top-notch quality, and the smoother ones for the newer systems are also nice and detailed, along with the backgrounds.

IT'S SO GOOD! I LOVE the music in Ace Attorney it is some of my most favourite tracks, especially the pursuit theme, seriously look this stuff up.
There is nothing more thrilling than getting the right evidence and finding the killer, only to hear the music making the situation all more blood pumping!

Dislikes:

As mentioned before, it is a bit bad on the location tracking, especially considering you have to go one location to go to another one, and the extra case don't bring anything new to the table to warrant me giving a care about it.

Overall:

The game is great, a good introduction to the series, if you have a 3DS, I recommend the Trilogy version as the music has more polish and the smoother sprites, £25 for 3 games, can't really ask for much more can you?
I'll give this game an 8.5/10. lols thats what i feel to. you can score it via the reply button below
