Killing the Priest and Refugees: This War of Mine Walkthrough, Day 08

We has hoped for a great trade day at the market but it sadly was a futile effort. Imagine leaving with hopes and getting back the same way you left, is it not depressing? Maybe but that has been the theme of the game all along so it is not all new. I don't know how to make do with a broken guitar but I should be able to get some insights today. It is also surprising that all through our days, we've not been able to get a single weapon. All our attempts on getting one - even the most basic - has been futile.

Bruno arrives home to a calm night. Nothing happened, nothing to jeopardize the safety of the house nor the storage of our items - food and materials. Bruno quickly checks for the use of the broken guitar and his first intuition was right, the improved workshop. It can be used to make a guitar and luckily, I have all the materials required to complement the broken guitar. A guitar can occupy time and can lighten up moods, if the player knows what he's doing though.

Almost all the spaces in the house are occupied. When new items are created, like the stove, radio, armchair e.t.c, they require a place to be placed and having not hitherto unlocked the top floors and the underground ones due to lack of lock picks and crowbars, I positioned all the items in the ground and mid floors. Now that we have access to all the buildings, we could expand our scope and spread our tentacles without any obstacle.

The guitar is placed at the underground floor and it takes a lot of our time to complete - 1 hour of the day in respect to the game's time. Bruno, the scavenger and the maker of the guitar is the first to try it out. Sadly, his play seems way out of line, I believe rookie is the word because I don't think he has ever touched the guitar. It's an irony though for someone who has never played the guitar to bring one home, curiosity probably got the better of him.

Pavle, the least problematic of all the characters right now is the next person to try the guitar. He plays it quite well and he opts for a bit of thrill - which doesn't reflect the current atmosphere but all good, it's good to be optimistic. Our dear character, Katia tries her fingers on the strings and the outcome is amazing. A solemn play that almost moves others to tears, I believe they are jealous of her dexterity right now as they watch on from the stands. The guitar was made with a stool like the one of "Elias" from Wwe. Classic! It could even be a substitute for the radio's classical plays.

It's good to plan ahead, really. We've been able to stock the house with food and medicine. In preparation for hard times, provided they are not stolen. Katia who is very hungry can easily have something to munch on without stress or any hassle, or any unnecessary risks. We've yet to encounter our crucible, there are still times that we will not be able to go out at night to scavenge anything so we scavenge what we can, when we can. We never can tell.

We need an Improved Metal Workshop

All our efforts towards making a knife have amounted to nothing, so maybe it is harder than thought. Maybe we shouldn't really waste time chasing shadows because the major components is hard to find, maybe we could get it through trades tough. The traders at the market square are not all rounders, they trade specific item groups; some food, some alcohol, some vegetable and some wooden items. During my last visit there, I couldn't find a weapon trader. Only all rounders can be trusted to have all your required items and they only come after a theft. Do I really wish for a theft? No, but it may be a blessing in disguise right now. If we fight them off, the trader won't come but if they pilfer something as minute as herbal meds - they only offer temporary relief to sickness - it would be better. But a theft can't be that specific, can it?

It is high time we improved the metal workshop and have a better chance at making better items. We already have materials that require only little more in order to improve the workshop. Also, apart from having a shot at sawblades and axes, we can also fix broken weapons and helmets. Just imagine having a helmet, I'll be better protected.

NIGHT

Why do you think we only scavenge at night? Well, I think the answer is nobrainer. It's a city plagued by war and chaos, soldiers and thugs, snipers et all get a clear view in the day, at night? They can only see as much. Katia needs a rest tonight and will be given one. Pavle, the fast runner will do the scavenge while Bruno should take a break by resting on the armchair. Logical isn't it? Well, I didn't put up a guard because a part of me hope there will be a subtle loot in order to call on our trader. I hope I don't regret the decision though.

St. Mary's Church

It's still a place of meeting for the local community. Priest Oriek still has time for charity work and still offers refuge to the poor. Interestingly, he is also a possible trader and additionally, there's a vestry behind the church that houses a lot of materials we could scavenge. It is apparently our best option right now. But caution is sadly advised, not much of a worry though.

Pavle makes his way in and is welcomed by the priest, he seemed friendly and he says they had just been robbed and is apparently petrified, but Pavle is not interested in any conversation right now, he heads for where the materials are kept. Just as he steps into the basement, he is trailed by the priest who cautions him on what he can take. Well, Pavle takes some of the "uncensored" materials until there's nothing left to take. He then proceeds to the private properties, at this point, the priest is getting really agitated right now and offers a trade as a substitute for the private properties. Unfortunately for him, his offers are not exciting.

I never knew crowbars could be used as weapons! The priest attacks Pavle after he attempted to take the private properties He threw Pavle a punch and Pavle subsequently retaliates with a crowbar hit. The hit was so bad that the priest cringed. Apparently, he has no tool in self defense and Pavle attacks further, he continues to hit the priest till he dies. He's just an old man

You are going to regret this

One of the inhabitants say.. Equally, they have nothing in self defense and Pavle attacks them with the crowbar and two of them are killed. The few punches they managed to give Pavle has depleted his health so he scampered out of the building to safety.
image
It was emotional for me watching them die but I just couldn't help but hit them. They begged, cried and cringed but they fell three by Pavle. Pavle will certainly have to nurse both his physical and emotional wounds later. What a night!
