Pokkén Tournament DX Review - Is this Pokemon fighting game worth reward?
Pokkén Tournament DX is the final version of Bandai Namco Studio's Pokémon fighting game based on Tekken. Pokkén Tournament appeared one and a half years ago for the Wii U, but has now released quite quickly for the Switch. Is this Pokémon fighting game worth reward? That's what you read in my Pokkén Tournament DX Review!
That Pokkén Tournament would come to the Switch was no doubt about possible. The game had everything on paper to be a big success. Unfortunately, Pokkén Tournament was in the stores just after the release of battle worldhit Street Fighter V, and the fact that Pokkén Tournament for the Wii did not work did not work for the sale.
Now, the Pokémon Company and Bandai Namco Studio get a second chance to show their Pokémon fighting game to the world, this time on the successful Nintendo Switch. Since the Pokkén Tournament still took place for the Wii one and a half years ago You might feel like it's a re-release of the Pokkén Tournament , but nothing is less true for the final version of the Pokémon fighting game.
Like in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokkén Tournament DX has all the features you need to unlock in the original immediately available. This is a great game because not all players who have played Pokkén Tournament for the Wii have already been waiting for everything to be unlocked. One of the criticisms of the original was that the game felt rather empty because the unlocking of new stages was rather slow and the game actually contained too little playable Pokémon to keep it interesting.
Still accessible, but not simple
Now there are 21 playable Pokémon and 20 different fighting arenas from the moment you start the game. As a result, Pokkén Tournament DX partially solves one of the biggest problems of its predecessor. Starting from the moment you start the game, the game requires just to get started, because even the explanation allows the player to skip this time. However, we advise you to familiarize yourself with the tutorials because, despite the fact that Pokkén Tournament DX is easy to pick up, the game is extremely difficult to master.
Pokkén Tournament DX is filled with the most disturbed possibilities to perform combo attacks. By pressing any buttons on a random basis, you will come to a close, but when you play someone who knows the controls, you may soon get a chance to hit.
The game actually contains gameplay elements that the player should really take for a moment to know it from his or her head. With the Y button you perform light attacks, with the X button heavy attacks, with the A button special attacks and with the B button you jump. This simple control does not feel stupid, because it will be a lot harder when you combine all these attacks to perform combo attacks.
Rock Paper Scissors
Players must get used to the basics of Pokkén Tournament DX in the beginning. At the start of a match, the player plays in Field Mode , in which you control your Pokémon from the third person. After the player hits the opponent with a tight blow, the game takes up Dual Mode , fighting you in a more traditional 2D fighting style.
This constant change of mode of play feels incredibly dynamic and holds players on the tip of their seat. The change of Field and Dual mode feels like a kind of reset of the league. When you think you have driven your opponent into an angle, the way of fighting changes and the opponent can suddenly come back.
In addition, players also get an Attack Triangle . This stone-paper-scissor mechanic is something that players should keep in mind to put the league to her or his hand. Normal Attacks Surpass Grab Attacks , Grab Attacks Counter Attacks and Counter Attacks Exceeding Normal Attacks .
We advise you to note this information as the Attack Triangle is hard to remember. But once you've mastered this mechanic you can make it difficult for your opponent. A lot easier are the Synergy Bursts . These ultimate attacks can be performed when your Synergy Gauge is full, to give your opponent a great stylish animation!
Gotta Beat Em 'All!
But enough about the gameplay mechanics, because of course it is about the game you use them. Pokkén Tournament DX contains several game modes to play with. The Ferrum League is a single player mode in which the player must defeat 8 opponents each and then get a rank higher. In Single Battle , the player can spruce against the CPU, and in the brand new Daily Challenge mode players have to face certain challenges with random Pokémon on a daily basis.
What's especially good at Daily Challenge mode is that the mode links you to any Pokémon, so you get a little out of your comfort zone and not always use your main Pokémon. Pokkén Tournament DX has 21 playable Pokémon, all of which play quite uniquely. All 16 playable Pokémon from the original return, and there are added Darkrai, Croagunk, Empoleon and Scizor, previously featured in the arcade version of the Pokkén Tournament .
Brand new and unique to Pokkén Tournament DX is the addition of Decidueye, 3rd and last evolution of the Sun / Moon starter Rowlet. All of these characters are divided into four categories; Standard , Technical , Speed and Power . Players will soon have a preference and find a matching Pokémon within that category. All these different Pokémon can be used technically during the brand-new Team Battle , in which you and your opponent choose every three Pokémon and compete against each other. This fashion still resembles traditional Pokémon games.
With 21 playable Pokémon, Pokkén Tournament DX eliminates one of the biggest problems of its Wii Your predecessor, namely the lack of variety. With more playable Pokémon, there are also more opponents during the Ferrum League .
Unfortunately, this does not solve all the problems, because the single player modes still feel a bit empty. The Ferrum League still lacks an in-depth story, and despite the fact that Daily Challenge mode is a good addition, it's only playable once a day. Oh, and Nia the advisor is back again and just talk as much as in the original. We recommend that you go straight to My Town to turn off her annoying comments in the options. Believe us, you have a much nicer time when Nia keeps her mouth shut.
The presentation of the Pokkén Tournament DX remains great. Graphically, the game is alright and never before, Pokémon fights were so impressively portrayed. The soundtrack is exciting and packed with upbeat techno tracks that get every player in the mood.
Pokkén Tournament DX Review - On Fist With Pikachu
Pokkén Tournament DX has become a successful port, which simply adds more characters. The fact that all battle arenas and support Pokémon are available from the start also works to the advantage of the game, so that you can be right with everything.
The game remains an accessible fighting game with a deeper difficulty level. The single player still feels weak, but the multiplayer is stronger than ever because everything is available from the start. Just release the Joy-Cons and give it to a second player, and anytime you want, on the fist with Pikachu and another 20 other Pokémon. In the case of Pokkén Tournament DX, quantity is therefore quality.
Pokkén Tournament DX is launching today, On September 22 for the Nintendo Switch.
The plus and the drawbacks
✔ More Pokémon to play with!
✔ All content available from the beginning
✔ New game modes
✔ Easy to pick up
✔ But goes deeper than you think
✔ Nia's voice can be turned off
✖ Singleplayer still feels so empty
✖ Nia is annoyingly saying
Thanks for reading.
