Risk factors in nutrition for coronary heart disease (cardiovascular disease)

in #health7 years ago (edited)

Through various intensive clinical and statistical studies are several factors identified that the risk of coronary heart disease increase . You should think of cardiovascular disease such as:

  • Heart Injury : In the coronary arteries, blood clots or fat drops may form; If they completely close the coronary arteries, the heart muscle can no longer function optimally by oxygen shortage + cell death. Acid deficiency in the heart vessels can damage the heart muscle / myocardium. In either case a heart attack occurs.
  • Brain infarction or stroke : In the occlusion of a blood vessel in or into the brain, one usually mentions a stroke or stroke; A temporary occlusion in the brain may trigger a TIA.
  • Vascular impairment : through narrowing of the peripheral vessels in the legs, "window bones" (claudication intervals) may occur.
  • Functional disorders : mineral disorder can interfere with the stimulation of the heart muscle; This can cause cardiac arrhythmias or arrhythmia and may lead to cardiac arrest or acute heart failure.
  • Heart failure : Heart failure occurs if the heart's pump function fails and complaints occur.
  • Aneurysm : In an aneurysm, a (arterial) vein is extensively widened; This can eventually stretch, weaken and tear off, so that you can bleed in a short period of time.

In addition, you have congenital heart defects: impaired development of heart or blood vessels; holes between the heart chambers or heart chest; wrong vascular connection heart valve aberrations; abnormalities or constriction of the aorta etc. Logically, it is the mother's lifestyle, which affects certain congenital heart defects in her unborn child.

Influence of nutrition on heart and blood vessels

The World Health Organization (WHO ) evaluated substantially all of the nutrient effects on the risk of cardiovascular disease (HVZ) risk . The main risk factors are those that are been conclusively identified for the risk of cardiovascular disease increase . Some risk factors are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, although there is no specific gravity or influence . These are called contributing risk factors.

The American Heart Association (American Heart Association) has identified a number of risk factors. Some of them can be counteracted, treated or curtailed; other not. The more risk factors, the greater the risk of coronary heart disease or cardiovascular disease ...

Nutrition that causes cardiovascular disease ...

There are a number of foods and nutrients that have been scientifically determined to help prevent coronary heart disease in certain cases and under certain conditions.

  • Transvet :
Trans fats are bad fats that are mainly due to the factory hardening of oils for all kinds of ready-made products. Think about margarine, halvarine, pastry, banquet, cookies, chips, salties, frying nuts and all kinds of junk food. But for example also 'standard' supermarket peanut butter. Trans fats could also be caused by excessively intense or too long heating of oil or grease.
  • Saturated fats : That all saturated fat fats increase the risk of coronary heart disease, a tad is outdated and is increasingly contested. Nevertheless, a surplus of certain saturated fat may well negatively cover your heart and blood vessels.
This includes myristic acid from nutmeg butter, margarine, fat meat, palm oil, coconut oil and cream butter. Myristic acid increases blood cholesterol and lowers "positive" HDL cholesterol in terms of total cholesterol (cholesterol rate). This ratio is strongerindicator of cardiovascular disease than total blood cholesterol levels. In addition to myristic acid, saturated palmitic acid from palm oil and sheep's wool and stearic acid from meat, fish, eggs and dairy products is also potentially risk-increasing. This does not mean to say that you should not eat saturated fat; just that you have to eat varied and moderate. So not a steak with 3 eggs and 3 glasses of whole milk daily.
  • Nutritional cholesterol : There are indications that nutritional cholesterol can increase your blood cholesterol , but that ascension is increasingly being questioned.
  • Provitamine A : In addition, beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A) in vitamin supplements could help cardiovascular disease, as well as cafestol in unfiltered cooking coffee. But there is no indisputable evidence for this.

In addition, new scientific research is being repeated; but too often, natural fatty acids that cause so-called coronary heart disease may also have positive properties. Eat more saturated fats of lean meat , fish, eggs , yogurt, curd, cocoa and coconut oil than chemically synthetic trans fats of margarine, cookies, chips and meat products.

Foods that prevent coronary heart disease

In addition to moderating the above foods that can increase the risk of coronary heart disease, there are also products that can prevent cardiovascular disease . These are at least as important as it is easier to add things to your diet than to delete. The main nutrients for the prevention of cardiovascular disease are as follows:

  • Vegetables, fruits
  • Fish & fish oil fatty acids ( omega 3 : DHA + EPA)
  • Potassium

There are also strong indications that linoleic acid (an omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid) and mono- unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic acid may help prevent certain heart conditions, though most people get here enough (or too much) inside.

The same goes for dietary fiber, raw nuts, polyunsaturated fatty acid alpha linolenic acid , folic acid (vitamin B11), certain phytonutrients (phenols, sterols, stanols and flavonoids) and (to a limited extent) soy products. These products and substances can thus contribute to a certain extent to the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Moderate alcohol consumption can also help prevent coronary heart disease; And natural exercise!

Nutrients that are once again confirmed that they can help prevent cardiovascular disease are less complex carbohydrates (which do not belong to the dietary fiber), iron, calcium, magnesium and vitamin C; but for this there was never any burden of proof.

Healthy lifestyle versus risk of creation

Stress can be bad for the heart. Drinking too much alcohol can increase blood pressure, cause cardiac arrhythmia and indirectly cause even heart disease. The risk of heart disease in people who drink moderate alcohol (especially red wine ) (on average 1 daily consumption for women and 2 for men) is lower than for people who do not drink any alcohol . However, it is advisable to drink (more) alcohol for that reason. The risk of cardiovascular disease is reduced by a healthy lifestyle: no smoking, healthy weight, sufficient movement, healthy and varied food with enough vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber and low saturated fat and trans fat.

Unmanageable risk factors for heart and blood vessels

Here are three factors that can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, but which (unfortunately) can NOT be prevented or treated :

  • Increasing age - Over 83% of people who died due to coronary heart disease were 65 years of age or older. Women who get a heart attack at a higher age have a significantly greater chance than men to die within a few weeks.
  • Male gender - Men have a significantly greater chance of heart attack than women and are more likely to be at relatively young age. Even after menopause (when the number of women who die from a heart attack increases significantly), the increase among men is greater!
  • Heredity - Children whose parents suffer from heart disease are more likely to get a heart disease themselves. When heart disease is hereditary, there are usually additional risk factors.

Prevent, treat and cope with heart disease

Here is a list of the main risk factors that you can combat, treat or undermine through your lifestyle / lifestyle or medicine ...

  • Do not smoke tobacco! -
Smokers have 2 to 4 times more risk of coronary heart disease than non-smokers. For patients with coronary heart disease cigarette smoking is a crucial, independent risk factor for sudden death to a heart condition. Smokers therefore run twice as much risk of death as non-smokers. Cigar and pimples seem to be at increased risk of death due to coronary heart disease, but this is low compared with cigarette smokers. Even so-called louis vuitton bags have an increased risk of coronary heart disease, even when they do not smoke.
  • High cholesterol levels -
As cholesterol levels rise, the risk of developing cardiovascular disease increases. Combined with other risk factors (such as increased blood pressure and smoking), the risk is exponentially high. The cholesterol level is influenced, inter alia, by age, sex, heredity and eating habits.
  • High blood pressure - Excessive blood pressure (hypertension) increases the workload of the heart,
causing the heart muscle to become stiffer and thicker. Increased blood pressure also increases the risk of heart attack, a heart attack, kidney problems and cardiac arrest. Increased blood pressure in combination with obesity, smoking, high cholesterol or diabetes increases the risk of heart attack or heart attack several times.
  • Physical Inactivity - An inactive lifestyle is a serious risk factor in coronary heart disease.
Regular, moderate to powerful physical activity helps prevent cardiovascular disease! The more intense the activity, the better. Nevertheless, moderate activity may already help when it is regularly and for a longer period of time. Exercise may include high cholesterol levels, diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure.
  • Overweight & obesity -
Overweight people - especially with excess fat around the waist - have an increased risk of coronary heart disease, including heart attack, even if there are no other risk factors. Excessive weight gain increases heart activity, increasing blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels and lowering "good" HDL cholesterol. In addition, overweight increases the risk of diabetes type 2.
  • Diabetes (type 2) -
Even when the blood sugar level is under control, diabetes increases the risk of cardiovascular disease as well as heart attack. However, the risk is extraordinary when the blood sugar level is NOT controlled. It is therefore vital to keep the use of diabetes by doctors and to learn to avoid risk factors as much as possible, even when it comes to coronary heart disease!

Finally

The above nutrition advice and lifestyle guidelines are extra important for heart patients and people who are at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, such as high blood pressure, elevated blood cholesterol and / or diabetes . With their doctors, they can check in such cases whether diabetes drugs and cholesterol lowering or antihypertensive drugs are advisable. In addition, additional nutritional advice including cholesterol lowering foods and / or high doses of fish oil or fish oil capsules , folic acid and other potentially beneficial products may be considered.
