During the Polish Game Arena 2017 in Poznań, the latest Polish and Eastern European games are currently being developed. One of the games that drew my attention was Ancestors Legacy. In this real-time strategy game, tactical fights with squads grouped warriors during the Early to High Middle Ages are central. Imagine a Vikings version of Company of Heroes and you get an idea of what the game looks like.

The Polish developer, Destructive Creations, describes the game as a title as "combining resource management and building your base with large-scale squads-based battles on vast battlefields"; the game on PC and Xbox One. Destructive Creations, fired in 2015 with their Hatred game, in which you play as a psychopath that strikes the murder. This game was then banned in a number of countries and was also the second game ever getting a "adult" rating. This time, however, the developer chose a very different insert with the Middle Ages as the source of inspiration.

The camera with which you look at Ancestors Legacy 's world is a familiar: oblique from above, as we know from many strategy games. In this case, the camera also allows you to zoom in to a detailed level and also offers a special combat camera that looks closely behind a group of warriors. The game uses the Unreal Engine 4, which gives the game world a lot of details with dense vegetation, weather effects, medieval tram tracks and settlements made of tents or wooden houses. The game world also contains many small details like boilers and campfires at the tents, bound corn in the fields and tons and crates around the hamlets with wooden houses.

The combat units are grouped in squads with a lot of eye for historical and realistic clothing and armor that varies within a squad like in the Total War games. Heavier units carry malware cans while lighter units wear armor of leather or fabric. The warriors' animations look good, so warriors put their spears realistically forward and a warrior with a heavy ax also seems to be really struggling to swallow the heavy thing around. The game also has animations where two warriors succeed in exchanging a two-way battle and animations in which one of the two is hit deadly. Watching your warriors during the fight gives you a very immersive experience.

The final game will contain four grand campaigns with each five missions in which you play as the Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Germans and the Slaves. The guide of each campaign is a story depicting cartoon animated animations. In the case of the Vikings, the story focuses on a group of Vikings who in the year 793 seek a way to plunder the Lindisfarne monastery. Other missions are aimed at the Vikings leader Rurik who was able to conquer large parts of Russia including Moscow. The Anglo-Saxon story focuses on a civil war in England around the year 1050 and the fight against the invasion by the Vikings led by Harald Hardrada. The German 'campaign' is about the civil war within the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation in the thirteenth century and the German subjection of the Polar Slaves. The Slavic 'campaign' will appear as a free dlc after the release of the game and is about the origin of the Polish nation under Prince Mieszko and the war between King Boleslaw and the Prussian Emperor Henryk II in the eleventh century. For fans of medieval history and games like Age of Empires II, this will sound like music in the ears, while it can almost alternatively serve as an alternative to the history lessons in school. will appear as a free dlc after the release of the game and is about the origin of the Polish nation under Prince Mieszko and the war between King Boleslaw and the Prussian Emperor Henryk II in the eleventh century.
