The critical role of the "MonkeeMom": Spunkee Monkee update

I've known what I was wanting to write, but I was having trouble getting it out exactly the way I wanted to write it. It's still a little bit stuck in my mind, but time is passing, and I need to try to explain how critical this particular role is. So here we go!

I think I've said this about 1000 times in the last few months, but the MonkeePals and I discuss this now more than ever. Each part of this project is such an integral cog in the Monkee Wheel that it's hard to say which one is more important. There is such a delicate balance between all the parts, and how they align. By putting too much emphasis on one, you really do a disservice to the contribution of the others.

Having acknowledged that, I really need to stress how underestimated the role of the MonkeeMom is.

I thought it was for parents, grandparents and guardians alike? It is! Our MonkeeRoom is made almost entirely of the moms, simply because they are the majority of the ones who are on Steem, and the majority of the ones that became the point of contact. However we do have a MonkeeDad and a MonkeeGuinny too! haha "MonkeeMom" just became a temporary term of endearment for the role of the adult family member engaging with the Monkee. We already foresee that shift to a new name happening, as we have more dads/uncles asking to be involved with the next run! Soon we will adopt some new shining name that is more inclusive in the future!

It's not just a supervisory role; they are very much the unsung hero of the project. When things are going well, they fade seemlessly into the woodwork, allowing the child to take all the credit for the completed tasks for the day. But I daresay, that without the gentle nudging, prompting, encouraging, molding, motivating and cheering that the "MonkeeMoms" do - the Monkee Business journals might not have that certain "shine". Though I love seeing the heart of the Monkees displayed in each of their unique posts, it's evident that the loving fingerprints of the "MonkeeMoms" have been gently pressed into the framework, leaving their marks too. The cooperation between the two is a sweet thing to behold and quite frankly, works best when they are hand in hand.

Spunkee Monkee is a FAMILY app. Yep, I said it another time. It won't be the last. The family MUST work together on our app, or it just doesn't do what it intends to do. What does it look liken when it works?

  • Hearing the moms giggling about the new characteristics that they've newly discovered in their Monkees
  • Watching the kids rediscover the joys of spending time together
  • Reading "they talk about Spunkee Monkee all day long - they tell their friends all about it!"
  • "We've tried these things before with her, but they never 'stuck'. Now it's sticking!"
  • "You've brought out so much in my Monkee - I'm thrilled with how far he's come so quickly!"
  • Seeing the MonkeeMoms encouraging one another in the MonkeeRoom and sharing ideas.
  • Commenting on a Monkee Business post and seeing a MonkeeMom has already visited them!
  • Asking opinions on whether our Monkees want to try another Beta after a short break..."Why does there need to be a break?" (maybe my favorite feedback so far!)

Though I would love for this project to be embraced by every family, there have already been cases where it hasn't been a good fit. Our job now is to figure out how to maintain our primary mission, while stretching those limitations as much as possible to appeal to more families. The clear fact is we live in a society now where screentime is a part of every day life for all family members. Our mission is not to eliminate technology (Of course not - part of our project enlists the help of technology!), but to provide more desirable alternatives so that a healthy balance between those options can be achieved. So far, MonkeeMoms and their input on this dynamic have been insightful, keen, and welcome! We are already looking forward to some of the changes that will be implemented for our next phase!

I've already gone through our Alpha test, so I had some strong expectations of how this Beta would proceed. So far, I'm pleasantly shocked at how this current test has exceeded my expectations. I keep waiting for the shoe to drop, but day by day - the feedback, interaction, and results have been more positive than what I anticipated. For their dedication to completing this project and their commitment to leading their families by example - I can only give the highest praise for the MonkeeMoms of this Beta test! I might even have to have a small MonkeeMom map in the future to give them the opportunity to go on a one-time Treasure Hunt at the end as a small appreciation for what they do on a daily basis, both for their families and for Spunkee Monkee!

Thank you MonkeeMoms (which includes ALL roles represented from the family for our Beta test!)

Another write up from you which I super duper LOVE again and again!!!

I support Monkees and this project has definitely forced me out of the comfort zone. As I just written in my recent post, it is easier to just hand them the one-eyes monster and let them watch videos for a quiet peaceful environment.

It is work as a MONKEEMOM but a worthy work.

Tell you something. Jayden is abit reluctant to pass me the Steem Monsters card. Hahaha. It is like his precious treasure and he looked at them every.
single.
night.
Before sleep. Lol...

So what should a Monkee Mom do? I let him keep those cards. And he said "I wish I am an adult to play them now."
Coz he keeps waiting for me to start playing to teach him but I havent started.

There are so many stuff we learn from you. I have been wondering who are you? He hehehe.

Reveal? Hehehe.

Anyway, this is a project worth investing. It pushes me to be a better mum. Really... No kidding!

Thank you!

hahahahaha Wow!!!! This comment is honestly making me just sit here and smile (yes I had to read it twice hehehe)

I mean - I could have just had you write the post! LOLOL I'm SO glad that he's loving the cards! And I do wish that I could teach him how to play! LOL but - I played a few times too and then I thought hmmm maybe this is for more "gamer"minds than me! hahahaha I have a few cherished Steem Monsters cards (I'm the voice of "Selenia Sky" in the game - so I HAD to make sure I have her card!!!) hehehe And of COURSE I had to get the pirate card! hahahaha and a few others that I just really liked.... but - I don't know how to play with them! LOLOLOL

Soon you'll play! :) and maybe you two can learn together! hehehe that would be a fun "Hobby" for your Monkee Business journal! Figure out how to play together and then tell us all how to do it too! hahahahahaha

Your comment is still making me smile so hard :) It's what it's all about! The Family becoming Stronger!

@jaysmasterpieces has been an absolute DELIGHT to have on the Beta game!!! I almost don't want the Beta to end because I'll miss all my Monkees hehehehe

Thank you for doing this very worthy work! I agree - Being a MonkeeMom is a precious gift to your family and to us too!!!!

-Monkee Capt'n Dreemie :)

Now my turn to read your reply twice.

Yes, I'm sure I need to try to find time to play Steem Monsters with him as 'hobby' and not until like an addiction. He and games are quite knitted together. Of course, if he has all the time, he wants to do soooooo many things in a day which is quite impossible and he can get frustrated if he didn't get to do stuff he wants.

And I need to remind him making the posts is not about the upvote because he likes to check how much he has hahahahaha. Oh dear... Not sure is this good or not. So I told him to be thankful for every single cents. And he can agree. 😉

Oh yes, it is going to end soon. I will miss too!!!

He calls you Captain and he calls @azuredorsal his leader. Hahaha

hehehehehe that is SO cute! :) I love being the Monkee Capt'n! :)

and i think it's human nature to check our wallets. LOL I still do it! hahahaha I love when I get a big upvote! :)

I think... (i think!!) that as long as we don't get too obsessed by it - it's a healthy and normal response! We work - we earn. It's good - as long as it's balanced, right hehehe

I still can't believe we are halfway over! LOL crazy! but we have so many plans coming up!!! I'm dying to keep us growing and playing and enjoying this as long as we possibly can with all our Monkees!!! (and MonkeeMoms!) hehehe

So totally love that you are about encouragement. I love that about you.
Ren

Thank you :) It's the heart of Spunkee Monkee! Encouraging our kids to believe that they have special gifts inside - just waiting to be dug up... .like treasure! :)

Thank you for the constant support!!! Your heart for our heart is so appreciated! hehehe

When @purplemaze and I joined the beta test for @spunkeemonkee, I knew that this app was all about family. That was the main pull for me.

It is so easy to let our children enjoy time on screen, especially when we enjoy screen time too, so SpunkeeMonkee for me was a conscious decision to reconnect and spend special time with my daughter.

With this in mind, the extra treats for her point milestones were all about TIME together. We will be going to the cinema this week, just the two of us. At the end of the beta PurpleMaze and I will organise her replacement passport and then plan our trip to London in the summer. It’s been a while since she saw her granddad, so family is very much the highlight.

Just talking about the 5 different elements (health & hygiene, the environment, service, hobbies and career) have opened up some interesting conversations and shown me where her strengths and challenges are.

I particularly enjoy how she now wants to look and see whether @hoboandcompany has visited, wants to check other comments, wants to visit the map both to see the updates and make her digs, and more recently wants to participate in the pirate story and get to know her fellow monkees a little more. All in all, SpunkeeMonkee is fulfilling my expectations and then some.

As to all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, I am just in awe! So this is a great opportunity to say a BIG THANKYOU to @dreemsteem, @hoboandcompany and @azuredorsal for everything you are putting into SpunkeeMonkee to make it a huge success.

Wow!!!!! These comments are seriously amazing!

I love how intentional you're being with it! It was (still is) my hope that even as we continue to grow, we never lose that special connection with the Monkees.

Twice now I've been asked "do you really intend to continue to manually comment and encourage the kids as it scales up???"

Hehehe. The answer is simply YES.

THAT is the whole point. Connection. If this becomes something where they are checking into a robot... then we've lost what makes this special, in my opinion. There will be automated things! Of course! But that will free us up to spend MORE time connecting.

The purpose is to keep everyone connected. Through posts, through life, and across the globe.

Instead of technology pulling us apart from one another, let's use it as a tool to draw us closer!

You are doing just that! Thank you for being a beautiful example of what our mission is!!!

Two more weeks!

P.s. The next stage of the story has 3 avenues to vote on! Hehehe

Thank you @pennsif! We always appreciate you keeping our project broadcasted! :)

This is an amazing programme.
I may be a as excited as Raynen or maybe a little bit more.
I read through everything, but I must admit I have forgotten everything and the only thing I remember is MonkeeMoms could have a treasure hunt too.... hahahaha
Capt'n Dreemie, I honestly appreciate you and all that you do for the Monkees.... The Future generation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart <33

hahahahahahahah!!!!!!

SO YOU REMEMBERED THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!!!

LOLOLOLOL

Thank you <3 It means so much that you Moms are truly appreciating this! It's what I hoped, (and was nervous that I couldn't deliver! hahaha) and to be honest. I DON'T deliver it. We all do! Working together! Like I said - all spokes in that Monkee Wheel :) hehe

and yes hmmmmm wondering HOW to make that MonkeeMom Treasure Hunt a reality now. hehehehe

hahahaha
