A Story About Space: The Board Display Part 3

in #freewrite5 years ago (edited)

Mrs P and Mrs Q, two primary school teachers, are competing for the best outside board display. They may be taking things a little too far.

The beginning of a new school week, Mrs P has arrived a bit earlier than normal.

“Early today?” asked the security guard.

“Yes, I may have another look at the display,” replied Mrs P.

“That’s ok, but can you go to Mrs A’s office first? She wants to speak to you.”

“Why?”

“She didn’t say, but you need to go straight away.”

Mrs Q arrives two minutes later,

“Early today?” asked the security guard.

“Yes, I may have another look at the display,” replied Mrs Q.

“That’s ok, but can you go to Mrs A’s office first? She wants to speak to you.”

“Why?”

“She didn’t say, but you need to go straight away.”

Mrs P enters the office of Mrs A, the head of the school.

“Please take a seat,” requested Mrs A.

Two minutes later, Mrs Q enters.

“Please take a seat.”

“My first question to you Mrs P. What were you doing in the school on Saturday night?”

“I wanted to have another look at the board display,” replied Mrs P.

“You were wearing all black, including a balaclava and you had a knife in your hand.”

“Black is my favourite colour and it was cold, Mrs A.”

“My second question is to you Mrs Q. What were you doing in the school on Saturday night?”

“I also wanted to have another look at the board display,” replied Mrs Q.

“But you were also wearing all black, including a balaclava and you also had a knife in your hand.”

“Black is also my favourite colour and it was cold.”

“Let’s have a look at the CCTV coverage, Mrs Q. You have your knife out and are about to tamper with the board. Then you stop suddenly.”

“I was about to make changes to the board,” replied Mrs Q. “It was keeping me awake.”

“A good story. However, it is not your board you are about to tamper with. That is the board of Mrs P.”

“How could you?” cried Mrs P. “You were about to sabotage my display.”

Mrs A intervenes.

“What were you about to do, Mrs P? Were you planning to sabotage the display board of Mrs Q?”

“No,” responds Mrs P.

“How could you?” cried Mrs Q.

Mrs P is unusually silent. She starts to realise that she also has been found out.

“Do you have anything to say?” asked Mrs A.

“No,” replied Mrs P.

“Do you have anything else to say, Mrs Q?”

“No,” replied Mrs Q.

“Not even a sorry?”

Mrs P mumbles. “Sorry”

“I didn't quite hear that, Mrs P. I guess that you are trying to say sorry. How about you Mrs Q?”

“Sorry,” said Mrs Q, barely audible.

“I may need to check my hearing, but I think you were trying to say sorry.”

Mrs A needs to take action.

“I have to do something now, it should take about 15 minutes. That would give us all a bit of needed space. In the meantime, please talk.”

Mrs A walks to the door. Before she leaves, she has wise words for the pair of them.

“Please don't kill each other.”

This story may continue, if our characters are still alive. Actually, it could continue if they kill each other. A legacy chapter, maybe.
