A Story About A Local Derby: The Board Display Part 2

This is not a story about football. It is a continuation of a story between two teachers who are competing for the best board display.

You can read part 1 here.

A Story About The Limelight: The Board Display Part 1

If you are from England, and watch football, you would know that a local derby is a game between two teams that come from the same or nearly city. Families and close friends supporting rival teams. It is that game in the season that fans want to win most.

Away from the football, a teacher, Mrs P has not won the award for the best board display for the first time in three contests. That award has gone to her best friend, Mrs Q. The deadline has arrived for the next display board change.

Saturday night, it has long since gone dark, and one of the security guards senses something is a a bit off. He decides to investigate.

He enters the school building. He switches on a light. In front of him stands a figure wearing all black, with a knife in her hand.

“Stop,” shouted the security guard.

He then recognises the face.

“Mrs P. What are you doing here?”

There is a pause.

“I've come to finish my board display,” replied Mrs P.

“On a Saturday night?”

“Yes sir, it was keeping me awake. It is not quite how I like it “

“It looked very good to me,” said the security guard. “Why do you want to change it?”

“Because it needs to be the best,” replied Mrs P.

“Why are you wearing all black?” asked the security guard.

“Because it is my favourite colour.”

“......and the balaclava?”

“It is very cold,” said Mrs P.

Then for a brief moment the conversation stops.

“Can you hear that?” asks the security guard.

“What is it?” replied Mrs P.

“Footsteps. Who else is here “

A figure in black appears. Is this a proper intruder this time?

“Mrs Q, what are you doing here?”

There is a pause.

“I've come to finish my board display,” replied Mrs Q.

“On a Saturday night?”

“Yes sir, it was keeping me awake. It is not quite how I like it “

“It looked very good to me,” said the security guard. “Why do you want to change it?”

“Because it needs to be the best,” replied Mrs Q.

“Why are you wearing all black?” asked the security guard.

“Because it is my favourite colour.”

“......and the balaclava?”

“It is very cold,” said Mrs Q. “I was about to leave.”

“I will walk you to your car,” said the security guard. “I’m suspecting that you are both taking this far too seriously. You should be with your families enjoying the weekend.”

“My car isn't here,” replied Mrs Q. “I walked.”

“In that case, I'll escort you to the gate. You can get a taxi.”

“What about you Mrs P?”

“I think it is time for me to leave too.”

“But you didn't change your board, Mrs P,” observed the security guard.

“You're right, but maybe I shouldn't take it too seriously. I’ll get a taxi with Mrs Q.”

“No problem,” said the security guard.

To be continued.

Why do I feel like they both going to come back ...lmao

Nice story.

Thank you very much for your comment, much appreciated because, sometimes, it can influence the plot line.

That said, I'm not sure what will happen next. :-)
