They saw it from the ski lift, lost in the snow: a bright red scarf. Somebody must've dropped it.

Once at the top of the mountain, Tammy noticed a small family and pointed them out to her companion Michael. Two impatient parents were trying to deal with their crying daughter.

"Well if you don't know how to hang on to your things then there's not much we can do about it, is there?" Her mother was berating her, as the father shifted in his skis, ready to go.

Tammy and Michael looked at each other. But before they could do anything the family was gone, mother dragging her bare necked daughter down the hill.

Halfway down, Tammy found the scarf. People in the ski lift stared judgementally at her as she picked it up. Why hadn't the parents gone to fetch it?

They dropped it off at the chalet and hoped for the best.
