My Daily Sunset Harvest: A Video on The Super Food Moringa! + LOTS of VALUABLE Writen Information On One of the Healthiest Foods On EarthsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Greetings!

It is another beautiful day here in The Garden of Eden! As usual we have more food that we can eat and its as sustainable food as you will find anywhere!

Today in the garden I stop at the moringa plant to share with you the powerful properties of this super food which is all the rage these days from raw foodists, super foodists and such. It is one of the most if not the most nutritional dense plant on earth. People spend a LOT of money to get bags of it dried and processed, packaged in bags and shipped to their home after MANY stages of taxation and high carbon footprint.....

We just GROW it right HERE in The Garden of Eden and harvest it and eat it whenever we want!

BAM!!!

Here is the video and below I shall an extensive list of  the many benefits of consuming moringa!

1. Moringa has one of the most highest concentrations of nutrition of any plant:

Having a Moringa tree in the garden is sufficient to meet the nutritional requirements of the entire household. The leaves have the highest concentration of nutrition. Moringa leaves are an excellent source of calcium and as well as many other minerals and vitamins. They are rich in minerals like potassium, iron and zinc and in Vitamin C and B-complex vitamins. Moringa leaves are surprisingly rich in protein too, containing 4 times as much as an egg. 100 grams of dry Moringa leaves contain 17 times more calcium than milk and 25 times more iron than spinach. Their beta-carotene content is 10 times more than carrots.   Although most vegetable sources of protein are considered inferior to animal sources, Moringa has the advantage of containing all the essential amino acids, making it a complete protein.

2. Moringa lowers serum cholesterol:

Mainstream medicine is starting to recognize some of the health benefits of Moringa, one among them being its capacity to reduce cholesterol.  Moringa has been shown to reduce serum chelesterol and the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. Laboratory studies in rabbits have shown 50% reduction of serum cholesterol and 86% reduction of atherosclerotic plaque formation in 12 weeks of administering Moringa extract.

3. Moringa should help counteract most types of cancers:

Moringa is high in antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E, it contains kaempferol, quercetin, and rhamnetin. Since cancerous growths are triggered by free radical damage at the cellular level, it is logical that Moringa should have an anti-cancer effect. Lab tests have proven that it has a beneficial action against liver, lung, ovarian and skin cancers. While more studies are being done to assess the clinical significance of these findings. Regardless of this its a wise and healthy decision to include into normal diet. Don't wait for disease to start eating healthy!

4. Moringa leaves are great at balancing blood sugar:

Eating a tablespoon of lightly toasted Moringa leaves early in the morning is a traditional herbal remedy for hyperglycemia. Recent laboratory studies using leaf powder on diabetic animals show that this is indeed helpful in regulating blood sugar. The beneficial effect is partially attributed to the fiber content, but the quercetin-3-glucoside in Moringa as well the isothiocyanates and chlorogenic acid could be playing an important role.Small-scale studies on diabetic people have shown promise with just 7 grams of Moringa leaves in powder form taken for a period of 3 months. 50 grams of fresh leaves as part of normal diet has been found to significantly reduce blood sugar spikes after the meal.

5. Moringa is great relief from rheumatoid arthritis

Moringa has immune-modulating properties that are helpful in treating autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. Many herbal preparations for arthritis include Moringa leaves. The anti-inflammatory effect reduces the pain and swelling of the joints.

6. Moringa leaves provide sustainable healthy energy boosts:

Our body is always using energy and requires new sources of energy just to function normally. The energy requirements of our body for the growth and repair of tissues aresustained by the nutrients we eat, though as we age, our body faces more cellular damage and becomes less efficient in the regenerative process. Energy boosters like caffeine, are common ways to get a boost, but they only provide temporary spurts. Its kinda like steroids, seems to work short term but then in long term causes detrimental results.  Also we the body will need higher and higher doses to get the same effect. Moringa has a concentration of antioxidants to reduce cellular damage. It also contains high amounts of vitamin, minerals, and most importantly, all the essential amino acids required for the repair and regeneration of tissues. This highly nutritious, wholesome food can provide sustainable energy boost.

7. Moringa reduces inflammation in the body:

The inflammatory response to injuries is a very influential part of the natural healing mechanism of the body, but chronic inflammation, probably resulting from the damage inflicted by free radicals, can have an adverse effect on our metabolic system. Heart disease and metabolic disorders like insulin resistance and diabetes are thought to be the result of chronic inflammation. Not only the leaves of Moringa, but its fruits and flowers used as a vegetable as well as the extract of its seeds, have an anti inflammatory action.

8. Moringa is awesome for boosting the bodies immune function:

Including Moringa leaves and fruit in the diet helps increase immunity and offers protection against seasonal ailments. In India, Moringa leaves are usually added to lentil soups during the cold and flue season to increase disease resistance. This practice is a lifesaver in poor communities where people live in crowded, unsanitary conditions with little or no access to medical facilities. Moringa leaves are part of the herbal supplement given to HIV+ve patients as an adjuvant to anti-retroviral therapy.

9. Moringa leaves are conducive to weight loss:

Eating Moringa helps with weight loss. This beneficial effect is because of many factors. Because the body is getting such high concentrations of nutrition the body has less need to store fat and water.

10. Moringa leaves increase breast milk production:

Of all the health benefits of Moringa, this is one of the most appreciated in Indian communities, especially in economically weaker sections, because breast milk is the mainstay of infants in the first year of life. Moringa leaves toasted in a spoonful of butter would be given every day to lactating mothers as part of traditional postpartum care. If any ailments or general fatigue causes a decrease in breast milk production in the following months, Moringa leaves are added to the diet again. This ensures not only increased milk supply but good weight gain and robust health for the infant. The high calcium content of Moringa leaves could be an obvious reason for the increased breast milk production, but there could be more to it than that. For instance, the effect of calcium supplements comes nowhere near the copious milk production resulting from the use of Moringa leaves.

11. Promotes sleep and aids in relief from insomnia:

Moringa is beneficial for sleep because of the amino acid tryptophan found in large amounts in Moringa. It is essential for the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin and the sleep cycle regulating hormone melatonin. Vitamin B6 is another necessary player in serotonin production, and Moringa has high concentrations of this also.

12. Moringa greatly reduces gastrointestinal problems:

Moringa leaves have a mild laxative effect. The high fiber content facilitates bowl movement and relieves constipation. Moringa can take care of minor digestive problems caused by gastrointestinal worms and microbes. The root extract is an herbal remedy for helminth worms.

11. Moringa root improves kidney function:

The Moringa tree is also known as horseradish tree because a spicy condiment similar to horseradish sauce can be prepared from its root. However, the active compounds found in the leaves occur in the root at much higher concentrations. The root is a diuretic and helps facilitate detoxifying which improves kidney function and urinary tract infections.  Moringa root extract is often used to get rid of kidney stones as it helps flush out excess calcium from the kidneys. Not only can it flush the stones, it can reduce the pain and inflammation too.

12. Moringa stimulates hair growth:

Because Moringa has lots of Zinc, and Vitamins A, and E, as well as the amino acids required for the production of keratin. Moringa seeds actually have very high fat content. The oil extracted from the seeds is known as Ben oil, and it forms 40% of the seed.  A unique feature of this oil is its stability and resistance to oxidation. The main component of Ben oil is a saturated fat called behenic acid, which does not become rancid on keeping, unlike most vegetable oils. This expensive oil is used in many high-quality skin and hair care products. Unfortunately the oil is very expensive, so traditional herbal remedies employ seed powder instead.  Seed powder supplys the minerals and B complex vitamins that are important for hair growth.

13. Moringa helps control eczema and psoriasis

Moringa oil and extracts have an ameliorating influence on skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Moringa oil is non-irritating and also moisturizing. It is also anti-inflammatory as I said many times. This helps control inflammation while the antiseptic effect protects the skin from secondary infections that just make the condition worse.

14. Moringa reduces blackheads and acne:

Ben oil reduces common skin complaints such as acne and blackheads because of imbalances in oil secretion by skin glands. Because the oil is light it unclogs the pores and lifts up the dirt and debris. On top of the cleansing action of the oil, its antiseptic qualities reduce bacterial overload in the hair follicles, simultaneously  the anti-inflammatory effect prevents inflammatory acne that normally require antibiotics. Long-term use of topical antibiotics is known to cause acne flare-ups, however no such effect has been observed with regular use of Ben oil.

15. Morings reduces skin wrinkles:

The Ben oil from the seeds of the Moringa tree has a long history of being used as a skin detoxifier and wrinkle remover. The Egyptians used it in cosmetics as an anti-aging substance as early as 1400 BC. Antioxidants reduce cell damage and aging caused by free radicals and help maintain the smoothness and youthful appearance of the skin. Because the oil is light it is a natural cleanser and moisturizer without making the skin oily.

As you can see this plant is a super food and very worth including in your daily nutrition!

I truly believe nature has a solution for everything and I have found with my own extensive personal experience that by sampling living a healthy life all the common health problems simply do not exist!

As always I welcome your feedback and appreciate your support!

Well, now that I don't live there it will be a bit different. ;)

Mind you, there's a lot of posts I have to catch up on and will be sharing a LOT of it throughout the process. I so look forward to it too...

Stay tuned! Namaste :)

WOW!!! The garden looks so beautiful. How incredible to have the opportunity to step outside to pick as much of this super food as you want! Thanks for reminding me how incredible & health-full moringa is!!

Yes what a blessing it is, yet the blessing is always available, the benefit is in embracing the opportunity~*~

Love moringa! W eat it everyday in smoothies and mung bean moringa soup

Thanks for this great information! I had never even heard of this plant but I will look into growing it.

One question: when spring comes do you remove the 2 feet of mulch?

Keep up the great work @quinneaker! The Mighty Quinn

No I don't even remove the mulch, it just grows up through it, though once threat of freeze is gone you can remove it to potentially have the shoots grow up faster.
Hey nice video link ;-)>

Did you already know that song? 2 feet of mulch every year. Let's see....I'm almost 60 so if I started planting Moringa when I was 20 how high would my mulch pile be?

hahahahahaha well the mulch decomposes so u would have to throw in the decomposition rate into the equation to get an accurate measure ;-)>
As for the mighty quinn song yes I am well aware of it hehe
Appreciate you Old Friend~*~

!

ahhahahahahaha thats your shortest comment ever!
Congratulations on a new record!
~ <3 ~

It truly is amazing that nature provides such power for our bodies. I love that we have it right at our fingertips and that it goes into our juice everyday. It is really a magnificent tree--4 trunks now! It grows incredibly fast and I'm soooo glad we get to partake of its high-vibe nutrients. Way to share the power, @quinneaker.

Thank you for helping me create such a paradise~
We are blessed~*~

Ohhhhh sooooooo very much my pleasure @quinneaker. Blessed beyond measure indeed! <3 <3 <3

The second most valuable plant that will grow in Texas. THE most valuable plant that one can currently grow here legally.

wow, what the amazing Moringa! I haven't heard of it before but will research whether it can grow in my climate, any if not consider planting a tree in a pot to take in during the colder months. Consider posting on ways to prepare each part of it for consumption - for instance the leaves...would they be eaten in a salad or brewed as a tea? Thanks @quinneaker!

Oh yes I could do MANY posts about mooring and thousands of other things for that matter ahahahahaha
If I could find something that people really wanted and would compensate me for I would be happy to do that. Im just trying to find what out the the endless value I have to share people want most.
I appreciate your comment as it helps me refine my posts.
SteemON!

i've often felt this way too...not enough time to share everything I want to!! Isn't it great that we have so much to offer and share!! Reminds me of @stellabelle's post on steemit as a gift econonmy:

"A Gift Economy is one where status is given to individuals based on what they give to others as opposed to a commodity or exchange economy where status is given to those individuals who have the most (Pinchot 1999). -Learning To Give

Native cultures are based on the philosophy that humans are the stewards of the natural world, and not consumers of the world’s resources. Unlike European American values, “wealth” in Native American culture is not measured by net worth, but rather by a combination of spiritual qualities, material goods, and behavior. Leaders are selected for their ability to take care of the tribe by sharing their wisdom and wealth (Millett and Orosz 2002). -Learning To Give"

Yes I have been living this way for a very long time. The best parts of my life in fact.
I utilize my power to create a better world for as many people as possible. I wouldn't be able to feed 40,000 free meals a year without pay unless I WANTED to do it.
The reason I want to do it is because I care more about ideals than I do anything else.
I strive to BE the change I wish to see in the world and exemplify my ideals.
Im not perfect but living this way has allowed to me to help a lot of people and contribute a lot to the greater good.
Great to share this with you. So nice to have an exchange with someone that is about more than how much $steem we will get out of it......
Hope to experience more of this with you.
Bless~*~

Great job - feeding 40,000 people is no small feat! giving in this way gives to the giver and gives to the receiver so is the perfect loop. Glad to hear it's fulfilling for you since it needs to be in order to be sustainable! Keep up the great stories here on Steemit, I enjoy them! ps. my brother and sister were born at home in 1970and 72 when it was against the law...so nuts that it was ever illegal to have a baby at home. Thankfully times have changed and my parents helped a lot to implement important changes, they were brave pioneers of their time in their own ways.

Wow!
What a great story! Have you written about that?
It is such an example of the sociopathic world we live in what the state will do to people. I don't like it but don't waste my time complain about whats wrong with the world or I would use all my time as it never ends! hahahaha so I just wake up every day and live for the world I wish to live in until I go to sleep at night and hope I don't get assisnated ;-)>
I appreciate your support and feedback. Hope to see you around soon!

agreed - the complaining is all consuming, but it is ok to recognize what needs to change. I haven't written about my family and birthing yet....the fact that you asked is inspiring me to consider doing so since they were amazing when I was young and there are so many stories! ;-), thank you!

It is actually HEALTHY to be aware of and address what does not work, what needs to change or what we may call bad. However it must be solution oriented, it must be based on improved possibility, hope, inspiration, growth etc otherwise one will be consumed by the darkness.
I am very grateful to have inspired you! I truly strive to inspire and am so glad when I do. I do hope that you will write about it and share it with the world. There is so much to be learned from it especially a story such as yours.
Let me know how that goes!

My favorite tree in the garden. Just love the taste of the fresh leaves and they are so easy to grow. Another great video!

Oh wow!
You grow moringa! A very wise choice!
I love the taste because I KNOW its so healthy but I do find my tree to be quite strong and bitter, I put it in green juice every day and that is just like SUPER FUEL!
I really appreciate your feedback and support. Makes my post writing more fulfilling!
SteemoN!

We are lucky that they grow everywhere here. Ours taste just like spinach and is indeed a great addition to juices and smoothies. We are currently looking to work together with an organic farmer in the country side to start exporting their product. Just visited his farm the other day. Post coming soon ;)

Oooooo How awesome!
Very synchronistic!
yes moringa is not only a superfood but in high demand these days over seas in rich countries....Hahahahaa its almost like a weed in some countries and an expensive supplement in others.
Take advantage of it and get into the products. I can maybe even carry them in my store.

Thanks @quinneaker! That would be so awesome. I'll keep you updated. First figuring out how to ship things here. Cambodia and customs can be so confusing. Have a great night ;)

hahahaha yea I know ALL about that.
Part of why I just prefer the simple life!

Moringa is awesome!

Great post @quinneaker

Moringa is awesome!
So great you know about it and I appreciate you checking out the post and making a comment!

Your welcome.

I'm not sure if you've researched this or topic or not but what are your thoughts on alkaline diets?

Personally, I try to keep my body in an alkaline state.

Oh I have MUCH research on this!
In fact @gardenofeden is working on a whole series of posts on alkaline acidic and how it works and how it affects the body!
Its all about a balance, the body thrives around 7-7.2 ph more alkaline that that can be not as good and more acidic than that can not be so good.

Awesome - feel free to use any of this content brother.

Can't wait to read what @gardenofeden will share.

Too many topics to blog about and so little time - teamwork makes the dream work.

hahahahaha OMG totally feel you there. I have SOOO much experience and knowledge that is very valuable. Yet to put together good articles on Steemit and reply to comments and everything is so time consuming it makes it hard to share more than just a fraction of what I have to share!
Appreciate the teamwork. It is a sign of highly evolved consciousness and can transform the world.
Keep it up, you can count on me!

Moringa is great! I actually have moringa tea @ home and drank some earlier today. I know its a lot more potent for you since you're getting it straight from the tree !

Truth~
Better to have some than none!
Though I choose to live as I do because I get the highest quality of all my foods. Its priceless.
