For those of you who have not seen my 101 Comment Fun Run to date, basically once we get to a total of 101 relevant comments as per the original terms and conditions on what counts as a comment, the raffle draw shall take place and my original 90 day SP delegation to the relevant MSP Project shall get extended.

Upvoting/downvoting is what gives Steem value, however it's the opinion flagging that is cause for concern. Flagging for abuse, spam and Plagerism is absolutely required. The problem I see going forward is going to be groups getting together to combat the issue of opinion flagging. Why anyone would want to flag the fiction workshop is beyond me as they are a valid institution helping people create great content for the enjoyment of others. If that kind of flagging continues it will escalate into a tit for tat war and then the validity of the platform will come into question. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that.

As a fiction author, I am frustrated by the concern that fiction "doesn't belong" on the forum. However, I respect that the flagger did brave the den of angry writers to discuss his perspective on The Writers' Block. I also think that those of us who write fiction and want it to have a place here need to do some thinking about what we post and make sure we treat Steemit as real publishing. This means only publishing as fiction pieces that you have polished and shined and put your best effort into. Not everyone is perfect, but posting less than your best effort only weakens our position on this platform. I, like many other authors, am making an effort to learn more about how all this stuff works, so we can try to be beneficial towards the growth of steem and respect those whose financial investment does make it possible for us to have some income here. We dream of a publishing house run in crypto. Please see posts from @rhondak, myself, and many others about these issues.

Can you point me to a link about ths pocket stuff? Since I am clueless. I participated because I think it is important for people to understand both sides if we want to have a chance to change things.

I worry about systematically downvoting or flagging content. I write fiction, poetry, and essays. As a writer with no mainstream publishing credentials, it's more important to me to have my work read than make money. So it's not the money side I worry with.
If my work falls into a category that the powers of the day deem is unworthy, then regardless of any talent or skill I possess, my work is essentially censored. Fewer people will read it, only because a few or one person decides it should be so.
So yes. I worry.

My friend @rossenpavlov, however, can afford to start such wars, which he sees as key to combating spammers and others who do not post original content. The real problem, as I see it, is that there are some rogue accounts that have been hacked and are being used to downvote people with quality posts.

I think I understand and appreciate both sides of the argument. But at the end of the day, in my gut I feel that the community speaks through upvoting, which is how this platform is designed, and the notion that someone with power can over-ride the will of the people with downvotes is extremely troubling.
And yet, if there is some kind of imbalance in the way the system works (for example, if someone’s work is upvoted primarily because he or she has achieved name recognition, regardless of the quality of the posts) then yes, it seems some kind of adjustment is needed. Who gets to make that call? What are the metrics of quality? Should any one person with an opinion about what constitutes quality content be allowed to take away from the value the community bestowed upon a contributor’s work? I don’t think so. I think there has to be a better way.
Also, who is to say whether this or that type of content has real value? The community. If there is a community on Steemit that believes fiction has value, then it does. And there is.
I believe in quality content, and in upvoting quality content. I take exception to the idea that types of content (with the exception of offensive content or hate-based content) may not belong here. Is photography good content but not haiku? Essays are fine, but not sonnets? Videos but not stage plays? I hope this works itself out and that those who create quality content, regardless of the genre, win in the end.

I think we need both the 'red' downvote flag as well as a 'that's enough/white' peace flag so that these things don't escalate and chew up unnecessary resources and energy when it could be put to better use... an idea for utopian.io perhaps?
