CrossFit Open 18.2

Live Announcement

Hopefully, you had a chance to stop by last week's post, introducing the CrossFit Open, and tuned in this past Thursday night at 7:00pm CST to watch the Live Announcement of Open Workout #18point2!

Patrick Vellner of Canada faced off with Noah Ohlsen of the USA, live from CrossFit R.A.W in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania.

If not, don't worry, you can read the post introducing the CrossFit Open here and watch highlights of Thursday’s Live Announcement of 18.2 here!

Fittest On Earth

The Games

The CrossFit Games is the Olympics of the CrossFit world, where arguably the fittest athletes in the world compete each July to be crowned the “fittest man/woman” alive. They must first, however, qualify at Regionals in one of the 18 Regions across the globe. But, to complete at Regionals, you must first qualify in the Open which kicked off last week with the first workout called 18.1. Source

Follow Along

Personally, 18.1 was not a strong performance for me, which you can read about in my Week 1 Results. I'll be performing each workout on Monday (the deadline) following the Thursday Announcement and sharing my results each Tuesday with my Steemit community via my Results posts. I hope you follow along; your encouragement means more than you know in moving toward my goals of improving my fitness. And, hopefully, it will inspire you to start your own fitness journey.

Here's How It Works

Every Thursday night at 7:00 CST for five weeks, The CrossFit Games runs a live announcement of that week's workout. It's a surprise to ALL involved. Then, athletes go head-to-head, completing the workout live! The rest of the world has until 7:00pm CST the following Monday to submit their scores online.

What The What?

Let me decipher. In Part A: athletes have 12 minutes to complete an ascending ladder of Dumbbell Squats (Women 35# DBs, Men 50# DBs) coupled with Over-The-Bar (OTB) Burpees. Meaning, the athlete does 1 DB Squat followed by 1 OTB Burpee. Then, 2 DB Squats followed by 2 OTB Burpees. Then, 3…until they complete 10 DB Squats and 10 OTB Burpees. But wait, there’s more! Part B: with any time left on the clock, athletes attempt the heaviest Barbell Clean they can complete until time runs out. Phew!

Movement Standards

This demo clearly explains the movement standards and gives you a visual of what the workout should look like:

Friday Night Lights

Tonight, at our gym, we will be running heats of this workout in what we call a “Friday Night Lights” style. We'll have a theme each week--this week's theme is your favorite superhero! It's one of our community's favorite times of the year! I hope you'll follow along as I share each week's workout and my results, while I attempt to advance up the leaderboard and better my standings from last year!

Thanks,
Coach JJ

Sounds awesome to have those themed event nights!

Oh its soooo much fun! This last one one of our high school athletes came in a real-deal Wonder Woman costume! I'll share a pic in my update post. The fun we have there is what REALLY brings people back for more :)

@coachjj,

Although I'm a newbie, I must admit that I love how CrossFit is so "anti-boring".

With the exception of extended and severe over-training, it's almost impossible to get "stale workouts".

It really reminds of when my Marine Corps Gunny would get a wild hair up his a$$ and have us do some rather "unconventional" exercise sessions!

You'll get a chuckle from it!

May you and yours be well and love life today.

Namaste,

JaiChai
