Devil's Valley

in #fiction8 years ago

The wind swayed the long metal bridge to make irritating squeaking sounds.

He hissed. Why the fuck won't this thing just hold still for a damn minute?

The thought of a whole ten-kilometer bridge holding still for him to think about the body lying head missing a few feet from him made him feel stupid. It was impossible. Not even the mighty "jdaijae' as locals had nicknamed it would be able to withstand the 'devils storm.'

Soft steps approached from the south. The white dust fog made it impossible to see who was coming but he was pretty sure he had an idea who even before he saw the face. He knew he was either going to enjoy his next conversation or not.

Jdaijae ran between two unlikely territories. Their, being neighbors came about after the fall of their respective planets left them in Mars scavenging to survive. It linked the 'others' and the humans living on different sides of the devil valley. They had to co-habitat after the great war. Something that kept them from extinction.

The steps brought forth Naya and her two man-servants or so he liked to call them. She was the fearless commander of the famous Zatrayan Tribe, a warrior he respected.

She spat before saying hallo and reached for a smoke. He stole a glance through her lighter's flame. Her eyes were ice-cold. It aroused him and nobody ever got why.

Ours or yours? And what have you concluded before I touch that body? Naya demanded.

Yours. Came his single reply.

She waited for more as she dragged her smoke.

Silence.

I asked a freaking... His hand on her mouth made her aware of his teleportation capabilities as he whisked her a distance. She turned fast enough to catch a glimpse of disturbingly ugly beings disassembling the heads of her two colleagues.

The same hostiles who were responsible for forcing them to play neighbors and erect the mighty jdaijae before they knew the beasts leaps could get them to the bridge... were back. Naya wished it was built higher.

She sighed...

So they are back? She whispered as low as she could. Zoima nodded sadly. How did you even know, there were coming? They are rarely out during sun up? He staggered a second due to his drained stamina... I felt their energy on us, I sorry I couldn't save your friends.

How are we going to handle another attack and we are low on ammo? Their haunting roars' filled the devil's valley to echo her fear.

I love how spare your writing is! Just enough detail to tell the story, and it piques curiosity and pulls you right into the scene. Awesome action sequence. I would love to hear how they deal with these creatures, and why they're back. Also... if the obvious spark between these two members of different tribes ends up lighting any fires ;D

Thank you so much for the kind words. My pens lean usually on poetry but I am a born storyteller just feeling stuck on how to lay out my story. Your thoughts confirm I am trying which is a good thing! :)

It would be an awesome story to explore :)
