The AI. ~ vol. 2

As soon as i reach ground level, two men are waiting to speak with me. Mat, my son and David, our security boss.

“We have to talk.” says David, In a low voice trying not to wake up the children.
“Yes, we have some problems Dad.”Mat says. Trying to disguise his concern.

My son have an earnest expression. The problems must be very worrying.

“We have seen a great ship near the north side of the Island.” says David.
“But seems like nothing alive on it,” says Mat.
“It’s been more than fifteen years since we saw the last. What are they looking for here?” I say, fixing the look on my son.
“Robots haven’t visited this island for a long time.” says David while squeezing his jaw.
“Let's talk outside the tunnel, I want to know everything you've seen. We'll wait for the others at the observatory.”

The observatory sits a few hundred meters from the entrance of the bedroom, it was built with the same volcanic rock from the ground of this area, which makes it almost invisible. Jet black, this type of rock keeps the heat very well. It also serves as a meeting room, many of the important decisions have been made there. We make our own calendars since 2047 when the AI took full control.

Life has not been easy since the moment of singularity in the year 2035. The last inhabitants arrived on the island that summer, and the news they brought was horrible. They showed us videos recorded with the smartphones, of whitish people queuing to get their daily food ration. Sick people in polluted cities, without being aware of their situation, totally controlled.
There were also many drones and autonomous robots that acted as police, although very few crimes were committed.

That damn chip. I get angry just by remembering it. We were too naive. At first, wearing a chip was fashionable, but later it became mandatory, and at that moment the human being lost its first great battle.

We have satellite tv here, but all it shows is a kind of code. Twelve years later was the year of total control, or year one of the “Machine Age”.

We are very lucky in this lost “islet” of the tropical zone of the Atlantic Ocean. We have Spring throughout the year. We have light thanks to the vertical wind turbines and hot water thanks to the volcanic conditions of the island. Fresh water and food aren’t a problem either, the solar desalination works perfectly and we have even been able to synthesize some medicines from the plants we grow.
The infrastructure that my father left us is built to last for centuries, and we have a good number of spare parts. My father didn’t do it alone,,many friends came with us. Among the builders there were many professionals from architects to doctors, electricians, engineers and every trade any society needs. All of them shared something in common the fear of seeing what the world was becoming.

Worry silences us as we climb the observatory steps, our eyes crawling the ground for hope. We haven’t seen a ship for a long time, it can't be good news.

We don’t know what’s happening out there.

Three people are waiting for us at the door, bowed down, everyone seems to know that something important is happening. I raise my hand to say hello, with an evident gesture of concern and I sit in one of the chairs placed in a circle. We all watch David impatiently.
He tells how a ship without human crew is docked a very short distance from the north of the island. A chill runs down my back as I realize how close they are. My head keeps repeating the same question,
what are they looking for here?
From the description of the ship, it seems that the robots are looking for something in the water, or under it…
