The Lottery Council- Chapter VIII: After The Game

It was a pretty good ballgame, the Sox beat the Yanks, the weather had been perfect and David had two names to forward to his hacker buddy. Jim's boss, Leyland Masters and a William Metzger were also present in the box reserved for Met brass. Masters seemed like a pleasant enough guy but there was something not right about this Metzger... he was furtive and never looked anybody in the eyes. He was also almost silent during the game, he didn't drink any beers but he was someone Mr. Masters told Jim he needed to know. On the way home David struck up a conversation.

"Some game Jim," he said, "the Sox looked good today."

Jim was his usual self. David watched for anything different in his behavior after meeting Metzger, but there was nothing out of the ordinary... he was beginning to feel like a spy. They talked a bit about the game and David decided to try to open his brother-in-law up some about the council.

"So tell me brother, how's saving the world going? You never talk about what you guys do at that council thing."

"Not much to tell," Jim was being noncommittal. "We just select people to receive experimental cancer drugs after they've been approved. They're expensive and we just try to make sure they're available to those that need them most."

"Sounds noble," David laughed. "Why you" You were never much of a joiner... out to save the world."

"Not saving the world, Dave. Just trying to help out. Mr. Masters got me into it when I got my promotion. He said they had been watching me for awhile. I've done some pretty good stuff for the company too... sales are way up."

"Masters seemed like a pretty nice guy," David was wondering how far to take this... he didn't want to make Jim suspicious. "Who was that Metzger guy? He seemed kinda spooky."

"Dunno," replied Jim, "never met him before today. Didn't care much for him though."

David decided this was far enough for now. They chatted about sports, Ann, the kids and other trivial stuff on the rest of the ride home. When they got there, Ann had dinner ready. After dinner David said he was tired and excused himself. He wanted to check his email and send off the names to his friend.

"Can't take it, huh," said Ann. "There's a good movie coming on, one of those conspiracy ones you love so much."

"Maybe in a bit," David said, "I just want to lie down for a few minutes and then I'll be back." His friend in California that had provided the information about how the cancer was administered had emailed him with some news that made the hair on the back of his head stand on end. Along with the article his friend had sent about performing experiments with diseases as weapons on humans that had been trafficked from war zones, was a picture. It was "Mr. Metzger" but that wasn't the name with the photo. This guy was some top CIA official from Ft. Detrick Maryland who was responsible for some terrible things if the info was correct. Holy Shit, thought David, I was 10 feet away from this guy. He was beginning to sweat. This was bad... Really bad and his brother-in-law was involved.

He knew that Jim was an unwitting accomplice, he was one of the best people that David ever met. He was happy when Ann announced to the family that they were to be married many years ago. Jim was a good man who put Ann and his family ahead of everything. Before going to watch the movie, he forwarded the names of Leyland Masters, Metzger, the picture and article to his hacker friend along with a warning... watch out. There was something else. David had to get his hands on one of those Batchagon pills his sister's family was taking to have analyzed... just in case.

During the movie, David excused himself to use the bathroom. He went to the kid's bathroom and took a pill. It was easier than he thought. After pocketing it he returned. He fidgeted around during the movie trying to make polite conversation, but found it difficult. He was scared... this was big and getting bigger every time he checked his email. When the movie was over, he said goodnight and headed to his rooms. There he checked his email.

It was worse than he thought... his friend had emailed him to go to a chat room asap. He did and his friend asked: 'how do you access info?' David replied: 'usually Google' His friend wrote back 'you need to go to the darknet and sent instructions how to do so... then contact me back here.'

When all this was done his friend explained: 'They can't trace you on the darknet. Now we can talk. This thing is fucking huge. They intend to wipe out about half the population in the next 20 years and they got your brother-in-law involved. They'll kill him in a heartbeat if they quit trusting him so don't say anything yet. For that matter they'll kill you if they think you're onto them... these fuckers are crazy. That "Metzger" guy is CIA- very high up and Masters is in it up to his eyeballs. What I really need is the IP address of that council where your brother-in-law goes. Is there any way you can do it without getting them suspicious?'

David thought: 'I don't know,' he wrote back, 'let me work on it.'

'Be careful,' wrote his friend. Don't worry, David thought. 'From now on, only use the darknet for everything... stay away from Google, Facebook, all of them. I'll send you whatever else I can find, but that IP address would be really helpful.'

'Ok." David wrote back, 'Will do.' He went to bed. The next morning he would go and have the pill analyzed, saying he found it and wanted to make sure it wasn't dangerous. He didn't sleep well at all.
