A Diary :: [Epic Love Story]

in #fiction6 years ago (edited)

Author note: This is an entry for @josie2214's Epic Love Story contest. Since she graciously allowed for no word count limits, the story is a bit longer than I might typically write for steemit. I hope you enjoyed it!

A great read, held my interest the whole way, amd like others said, didn't feel long. This is a rarity on steemit. Well done.

I was trying to think what exactly the betrayal she was pulling is, and found the twist of her being a writer very amusing. (No one reads comments before reading the post... right? Otherwise, SPOILER ALERT people!)

Thanks @aksounder :) I appreciate you spending the time on this somewhat long piece. Hard to hold peoples eyeballs for long in today's world! Thanks!

"Long piece?"

Bruh. Please.
You know I like writing. And read for fun. And I like reading your writing.
You've got an easy holds my eyeballs status by now.

@negativer, I can't believe I missed this story when you first posted it. It's an amazing piece of work, so beautifully told and so devastating. I was right there in the time and place, in the battle scene, and in the terrible moment when the truth is revealed. Congratulations on winning the love story contest! It is very well deserved, my friend!

Thank you @jayna! It was fun to write as it evolved through multiple drafts and changes of POV. I'm glad you had a chance to read it!

All that editing and polishing work really shows! Wait, that sounds wrong. It’s the great writing that shows. And it doesn’t surprise me that a lengthy revision process is behind this fine-tuned piece.

Great story! I know love stories aren't your genre, so I expected it to be a tragedy of some kind, and you did not disappoint. Though it was longer, it didn't seem "long" when reading, so good job in keeping my attention throughout.

I don't think I could legitimately do a straight up regular love story without something tragic slipped in. Thx for reading :)

YES you can, I believe in you!

Great story...an epic love story, my favorite! Do you come up with all your details from other books you've absorbed, or do you research?

Research! Like they say, a writer has to be an expert in everything he writes about (or somebody is going to call him out on it). So, lots of research. The pacing and storytelling aspect comes from reading other books though. You get a feel for what works and what doesn't.

Richard Rahl and the Sword of Truth!

DARNIT NEG. ugh. I’m emotionally compromised. This was a really good story. You managed to wrap up a whole little world in a (somewhat) short piece and had a fantastic but world destroying love story to boot. That ending killed me. It was so worth it though. Awesome work man, for real.
Question: How do you come up with fantasy character names? Or how does anyone? I’m curious. Sometimes they seem ridiculous. (Not here, but in general)

Thanks so much @caleblailmusik. I always appreciate your reads.

For character names and city/etc names, it's remarkably uninteresting. Whatever my 'world flavor' is (in this case, somewhat Scandinavian) I just do a google for 'baby names norway' (or whatever) and scroll through that for something reasonably unique.

The city name (Kolvereid) itself is a real Norwegian city. For that, I just look at a map and imagine where it might be realistic for the story to take place, and use that city name. Real city names feel more ... real ... than manufactured names, which sometimes feel corny. Maybe it's just in my head.

I'm glad you go to that much work! Sometimes I think fantasy writers just come up with names that look cool and 'not-real' but are aesthetically unpleasant. Like, sometimes it ends up being four consonants in a row and I'm like "How do you pronounce that though??"

Reading this didn't feel long at all. I was drawn in all the way, had a bit of love, tragedy, and a beheading :P ... and the ending was a nice touch.

Thanks for reading! There's no good love story that can't be made better with a beheading, right? :)

Ah, Neg.
I read this, and I tell myself,
"It was the Collie."
Beautifully written, as always.
I want more of the nameless girl now....

Thank you Carol!

Well done, didn’t read long neg. I knew someone had to die, but I thought she was planning to kill the king or her beloved because she was actually crazy. Yet again, you’ve surprised me.

Thank you @kubbyelizabeth :) What's a good love story without a little tragedy as well, right?

NO! Stop killing the love, since its valentines day tomorrow can I make a story request? I want a love story, no killing, no stabbing, no dying. Are you up for the challenge?

I don't understand. Like...how many people can die, then?

Well, you can be creative in that sense. Everyone can die expect the two people who are falling in love, or in love, THEY MUST LIVE FOREVER AND EVER!

Great story

had me spellbound

sad too though...

very sad

Bye

Thanks for reading!

Wow. This is definitely epic. Jeez. Oh my I wish I could write like you. Beautiful tragedy. I love.

Thanks for reading!
