The blind date - Chapter 4 - Fiction

Olivia walked into the restaurant. Right in front of her stood James next to a beautiful woman. James looked straight at her, smiled and then bent over to talk to the woman next to him.  The woman laughed out loudly and grabbed his arm.  Olivia felt very awkward and felt as if she could run away. She did not want to make her disappointment obvious so she turned around slowly and was just about to head out the door when she saw James walking in the front door.  

"What the hell?" She felt totally confused and didn't know what to say when James greeted her. She was speechless.  James smiled at her and called the "other" James and the woman closer.  

"Olivia, I'd like you to meet my brother Sam." 

Olivia felt very shaky but she held her pose and walked over to shake Sam's hand. 

"I thought I was going crazy, why didn't you tell me you had a twin brother?" Olivia said and smiled at James.  

"Well the first time I met you, you tried to kill me, and I had to cancel our lunch date the other day.  I would say that I have just been too busy." James said seriously. 

"You didn't look too busy when I saw you at the club last night?" Olivia said sarcastically  

"Club, which club?  I can assure you that Mrs Milton would not have been very happy delivering her baby all alone last night." 

"Hey you guys..before you actually start a fistfight here...." Sam started laughing.  

"I knew you looked familiar!" He told Olivia. " I saw you at the club last night. You were waiting for your jacket?"

Olivia felt like an idiot. She wanted to apologize but James just started laughing. Sam and Sylvia joined them for a quick dinner because they really wanted to meet Olivia. James stayed in their cottage, because he was hardly ever at home, and just needed a place to crash when he was not at the hospital. 

After Sam and Sylvia left, James ordered some more wine and they talked for a long time. By the end of the night it felt as if they've known each other for years. They had so many of the same interests and they were both surprised that they studied at the same university. James just started practicing a year earlier, because Olivia took a year off to travel.  It was one of the best dates that Olivia ever had.  

They talked about previous relationships and Olivia learned that James was engaged before, but it did not work out. It was nearly 12h30 when they finished their second bottle of wine and they both giggled when they realized that they were the only two people left in the restaurant.  James paid the bill and they walked outside. Neither of them were tired and they didn't want the night to end, but it was late and they decided to call it a night. Olivia's car was parked right in front of the restaurant but she knew that she was not in any condition to drive.  

James did not have his car here as he took a cab directly from the  hospital. He phoned Sam to come and pick them up and ten minutes later both Sam and Sylvia stopped in front of the restaurant.  Sylvia climbed out and looked quite annoyed but when she saw the two of them she couldn't help laughing.  Sylvia drove Olivia's car home and James and Sam followed them.  Sylvia parked the car and then got into the car with James and Sam. Olivia waved to them when they drove away and then went upstairs to her apartment.
