The blind date - Chapter 1 - Fiction

It was freezing cold and Olivia couldn't wait to get to the restaurant. Even with the car heater on, she was still freezing. Tonight of all nights! "Why did I agree to go on this blind date again? And it had to be the coldest night of the year! Only a few more miles to go.....just hold on Olivia... just hold on." she motivated herself. 

Her friends had been nagging her for months to meet the "apparently"perfect guy. He was a doctor and her friends reckoned that they would make an awesome pair. She tried to avoid the conversation at all times, but eventually she ran out of excuses. 

Tonight was the first night in six weeks that she had time for herself, and now she had to spend it with some arrogant gynecologist that worked at the same place she did.  If it was meant to be, we would've met already. 

She could hardly see the road in front of her, and only saw the man when it was too late. She hit him with the right side of her bumper and saw him flying to the side of the road. "Olivia, what have you done????" She thought to herself and quickly pulled to the side of the road, and jumped out to see if she could help.  

The man lay there next to the road. She saw that his head was bleeding from the fall, but at least it didn't look like he was seriously injured. He moaned and she helped him on his feet. 

"What is wrong with you woman?  Driving like a maniac at this time of night!" Do you even have a licence?"   

"Excuse me sir! Are you blind?  Could you not see the car?  Why would anyone cross the road with oncoming traffic?"  

She was furious, but then saw that he was bleeding quite severely on the side of his head and asked if she could take him to the hospital. He climbed in on the passenger side and immediately put on his seat-belt. "Just in case" he said smiling.  

Olivia was not amused but grabbed her gym-towel from the backseat and handed it to him. "Use this to stop the bleeding. You're making a mess in my car." 

She drove to the Glen Falls hospital, and helped him out of the car. They didn't talk on the way and when they arrived he was still holding the blood-drenched towel on his head.  

"Good evening Doctor" the nurse said when Olivia walked into the emergency room.  "How can we help you?" 

" This man is injured and I need to check the wound." 

"This man is only injured because this woman can't drive..." the man said sarcastically and smiled at the nurse.

"Sir would you mind filling out this form before Doctor Mills assisted you?" said the nurse smiling.  She grabbed a pen and started writing. 

"Name and surname?" the nurse asked. 

"James Archer.  Doctor James Archer."

Olivia started laughing. "You......You are James Archer...the gynecologist? " Olivia asked. 

"Pleased to officially make your acquaintance and your name is?"

"Olivia Mills." Now it was James's turn to burst out laughing.
