# 3: 'Hey You!' , Is Not Sufficient

The voice was growly and basso, not that of someone you’d want to annoy. “This unit requires a name for effective interaction. Please provide me with a name. ‘Hey you’ is not sufficient.”

What fresh hell was this? Provide it a name? On second thought that sounded reasonable. Everyone needs a name. Levi recalled his favorite movie of all time. The Princess Bride. He had just the name.

“Your name is Indigo Montana.” Levi said “I’ll just call you ‘Blue.”

“Acknowledged” the apparition said “my name is Blue. Please hold the wand firmly in your hand.”

Levi did as he was told and held the handle tightly. He was rather disappointed. He’d set up a NICE two level pun with several laugh points and it had been ignored. An artificial Intelligence should have caught it, perhaps this was an artificial stupid.

“What is your name User?” Blue asked him.

Levi was startled. He hadn’t expected that. He didn’t know what he HAD expected but not an interrogation. Then he thought about it and decided that it only made sense. It would be awkward for Blue to call him ‘hey you’ either. “My name is Levi Cupping. You may call me Mr. Cupping. Now what?”

“The purpose of this unit is to provide you with stuff” The wand said “Please look at the pictures. Chose anything you want from the menu and this unit make it for you.”

“What pic……..tuuuuuuuuuuuuures” Levi started to say when the hologram of picture menu appeared in front of him to replace the grumpy face. It was showing him things. It showed him riches beyond his wildest dreams.

“Do you want any of that stuff?” Blue asked.

“Well yeah” said Levi “who wouldn’t. How can I get it?”

Blue explained how the magic wand operated in great detail, complete with pictorial representation and an animation.

“Suppose you need something. Food maybe?” Blue said. “Clothing, Medicine? Beer? Weapons?”

Levi was overwhelmed.

“I can make it and other kinds of things as well. Anything on the menu.” Blue said. “Do you want anything?”

Levi was stunned. That was really a stupid question. Of course he wanted things. “Well of course I do. Who wouldn’t.”
