Wandering Spark - Part 40
He swam forward and probably swam for at least half an hour. It was quite dark; it is good that in this part of the route it was difficult to get lost. Varan swam along the wall, from time to time groping the stone with his right hand.
Then the sea lit up.
Sparks flew above hand, spun in the whirlpools, broke out and went out, but they didn’t give much light. Varan swam onwards.
Then ahead - where he was swimming, - a glowing burst, and in the flashes of green sparks, a huge cloud appeared - in the darkness more and more snake-like.
"Hey," the invisible Nila said softly. "You're here?"
"Yes," replied Varan.
"I thought that you’ve drowned," Nila said. Varan didn’t answer.
"You're a fool," Nila said.
Varan silently agreed. Maybe…
"Give me your hand," Nila said.
"I don’t see where..."
"Here..."
He climbed back into the saddle again.
"You are so cold," Nila said. "Brr."
And, turned, she put her arms around his neck.
From the very morning, she showed "this Gorni" all the underwater caves, which could be reached on serpanters. They hastily had lunch with roasted shellfish; they almost didn’t talk - just about business.
Himself, Gorni dives like an air balloon - head down, everything else on the surface. But he quickly learned to dive on Zhurbina and in general got along well with the serpenter. In the end, they made their way even to that well, where a dangerous narrow passage is located... Mage Gorni wasn’t scared and wished to see it too. He was looking for something, but they didn’t find anything but a dead snake. How did she get there? Maybe sea flow brought it?
