"My father has five hundred slaves, on each a gold collar and a golden bell is attached to the collar, and when all the bells ring at the same time, a chord can be heard... I have three horses, a ground squirrel, and my own wingam. In my room, five pink bushes bloom all year long. Have you ever seen roses?"

"Yes," replied Varan, in order to answer anything.

"No, you're lying, you could not see them. You live here among the water and stone, eat fish and see nothing. And the world, by the way, is great. Last year, my father and I went to the country of volcanoes in the summer. Do you know what a volcano is?"

"No."

"And you will never know, you can be calm... So, I have water in my left shoe."

"But it's a water ride, your ladyship. And then ... Try to stay straighter in the saddle."

"Straighter in the saddle? And you know, servant, that I can fly on a wingam, and it's a little harder than swim on these your reptiles... I was promised the wonders of underwater caves. Well, where are the wonders?"

A young aristocrat, she was about fifteen years old said this remark in the "stone garden" - the grotto, where visitors usually stared at each other, gaping in admiration. From below the grotto was illuminated by the sun and from above hung "branches" and "flowers" - white calcareous deposits. The flashes of water danced on them, and it seemed that the "garden" was alive, swaying and breathing.

"Look," Varan raised his hand. "Over there, over us..."

"So what?" The lady shrugged her shoulders. "If the walk does not live up to my expectations, boy, my father will buy not only a serpenter for knackery, but also you, your master, and this girl in painted trousers..."

She turned away and hit Zhurbina again with her heels. The serpenter spurted with her tail.

"Have you been anywhere except this islet?" asked the girl, haven’t noticув neither the indignation of Zhurbina, nor the glassy eyes of Varan.

"No."

"And you won’t be, of course. Do you even live here, on upper lands – or in the bottom where is always dump?

"I'm a pod," Varan said through clenched teeth.

"Well, well," the aristocrat went on absently. "And if I throw a coin in the water, will you be able to catch it?"

Without waiting for an answer, she opened her wallet, hung up to her belt, and threw a coin into the water. Varan had time to notice a silver krone. The coin fell almost invisible until it was hit by the sunray and it flickered like a fish.
