Second Part from the Third Group of our Tagalog Fiction Series

"Awiyao !!!" Malyari shouted after him. "Where are you going?!"

Awiyao was surprised and looked back to see through the dark forest. Only the light of the moon served as illumination to slightly see Malyari.

"What are you doing here Malyari? Go back, you might get hurt or something."

"I'm asking you where you are going!" The woman was furious and Awiyao did not know why.

"I'll pray to our ancestors so they can guide me well. Come and accompany me."

Malyari looked at him from head to toe. He has not lost his charm even in the darkness of the forest. "Who are you kidding? You will look for Liwayway, right?!" She pointed at the small sack that he laid down earlier.

"Oh come on now, it's not like we won't get married on the next full moon. Come here." He joked as he wrapped his arm around the maiden's waist, gazing through the dim light at the deep frown that slowly turned into a triumphant smile.

"Okay, let's get you home now." Awiyao slowly let go of Malyari but he was deeply kissed by the girl under the moon.

Malyari was awoken by the howling of the dogs in the distance. She almost jumped up from the grassy bed they shared and discovered that she was alone in the dark forest. "Awiyao?" Malyari called out even when she knew he was not in the woods anymore. She quickly dressed and went around annoyed while looking for him but the love of her life was gone. Returning to where they had last been together didn't help as she never saw even his shadow.

"AWIYAOOOO !!!"

The only answer she heard was the echo of her own voice.

"You will pay you man! You think you can escape me?!" And she cackled as though she was so happy that the birds and the bats were awakened and flew to the dawning sky.

She quickly took out the black amulet that her great-grandmother had given as inheritance and she began to murmur.

Somewhere out there, Liwayway suddenly awoke, her heart thumping in her chest. She was sweating inside the cave she stopped over in and she sat up while she catched her breath. Her heart was beating fast. "O dear ancestors," she prayed sincerely, "Please take care of the father of my unborn child."

She hastened and ate a bit of the food she had with her and then prepared to travel again to some distant place. Outside the cave she saw the statues of their ancestors.

And it seemed like Awiyao was also there, her most beloved man in the whole wide world, who seemed to be thinking deeply. She smiled because she knew it was a mere vision by someone longing for someone... She began to walk away when she heard her name called.

Something seems to be wrong. Liwayway's heart began to beat faster.

"My dear, why are you here?" Liwayway did not look at what she thought was her imagination of Awiyao. Slowly she began walking away again.

"Liwayway..."

She started running fast clutching her belongings in it's vessel. "Are we playing hide and seek? Hahahahahaaaaaa." She knew that the man was running after her and that he was about to overtake her.

She screamed as soon as he caught her and they thudded on the grassy ground. "Release me Bagwis!!!"

"Hahaha, wait calm down, calm down," and slowly the man stood up from his tight hold of her due to pinning her down.

Liwayway remained face down on the grass, trembling, her eyes gradually starting to well up as she tightly clutched her belongings. She was so stupid. She had mistakenly thought she saw Awiyao but it was his deceased and capricious brother, Bagwis, the one who she knew had a secret longing for her when he was still alive.

Why is she suddenly seeing, hearing and feeling his ghost?
