Lanes of Graffiti, Melbourne.
Whatever you think of graffiti, you will not be able to deny that most people will find, artistically painted street art fascinating.
And as for some detractors, I'd hazard a guess that if they took the time to wander down the array of colourful, graffiti decorated lanes in Melbourne, Australia they may even grudgingly admit that real talent is used in the production of many of these murals.
The alleyways are narrow, the buildings are tall, and most of the buildings are very, very old. And when I compared the unpainted to the painted areas of those aged buildings, I much preferred looking at the wonderful variety of graffiti whatever the message, behind the art.
People of all ages had their cameras working overtime, capturing the different scenes on both sides of the lanes. A group of kids paused for numerous selfies and were having a lot of fun.
Most people, when they think of Melbourne think, Coffee, Al Fresco dining, Laneways and Street Art. That is because, everywhere they look, they will find street art in every nook and cranny. But some areas are more concentrated than others.
Here are few graffiti Lanes to look out for if you haven't already visited:
Hosier Lane is located opposite Federation Square. This cobblestoned lane is perhaps the central point of Melbourne's street art scene.
Centre Place is situated between Collins and Flinders Lane. Here you will find some of the city's most high profile and detailed stencil work and graffiti.
AC/DC Lane was named after the iconic Australian rock band, in 2004 and not surprisingly, you will see a mix of musicians both real and imaginary painted on the walls. AC/DC lane runs off Flinders Lane and the famous, live music venue Cherry Bar is situated there too.
Caledonian Lane is a tiny laneway with a big history. This is the birthplace of the present international festival, St. Jerome's Laneway. This lane is located off Lonsdale Street and tucked behind Swanston Street.
Duckboard Place wraps around Flinders Lane towards the back of AC/DC Lane and what makes this place interesting is the number of high end restaurants located here which includes Lee Ho Fook.
Rankins Lane is found near Bourke Street Mall. It is a very narrow lane and would be a very ordinary one if not decorated with street art.

THANK YOU FOR VIEWING. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
To me, there's a huge difference between street art and graffiti. One is expressive and creative, and deserves to be photographed and appreciated. The other is about ego, ownership, control and destructiveness.
You've summed up my views on this subject succinctly Deb. Many thanks for dropping by. Very much appreciated my kiwi friend. 🥝 🌸
Thank you @pixresteemer 🌸 🌷 🌸
Super cool!!!
You know, I've always had a strange sort of fascination with graffiti.
I find it very creative and beautiful. There is also a connotation of association to delinquents or perhaps even anarchism in some places.
Where I live, these works of art are generally created by gangs and/or delinquents.
It's safe to say I have mixed feelings about this form of art, but I can tell you, it would probably upset me more to see one of these being painted over, than to randomly see someone creating one.. I can't exactly say why, but perhaps it's because I have a deep appreciation for art.
By the way, I've been making it a point today to visit all the beautiful ladies I engage with, so @trudeehunter mustn't be left from my checklist. Happy Valentine's day to you and your loved one's! I hope it's a wonderful day for you.
Interesting comments @futuremind and I go along with your sentiments. Random defacement of public property and rebellious scribbling, painted with rage and general dissatisfaction with life is never an appealing sight. It probably gets the reaction the 'artist' intends and that is to instill anger and dissatisfaction of the viewers. A total waste of time, in other words. 🌝
What a charming person you are. Thank you so much for your lovely Valentine's Day wishes. I am honoured indeed, by your thoughtfulness. I hope your day is special for you and your loved ones too. 🌼 🌻 🌺 🌷 🌹

I love street art... But its all about where it is and how good it is. These streets look amaizing. There is so much talent in this world that goes to waste. Just because you are not academically minded doesnt mean you are stupid or unable to contribute to this beautiful world. I have to share this Trudee.
Hello Andy. Greetings from Oz! How are you?
You are quite correct. The difference between graffiti for the sake of leaving your mark and creating something interesting with flare is vast indeed. I'm glad you enjoyed viewing this blog and I really appreciate the kind resteem and support my friend. 🌸 🌷 🌸
Great as always Trudee Just keeping in touch with an old but good friend. 🌹🌹

Hey you.......go easy on the 'old' even if it is true. 😄 I do agree however, my
oldlong time, good friend.🤣Great post about the graffiti lanes. I personal love street art graffiti, not just the tagging. I don't know of any graffiti streets nearby for a visit but I have been to one in Paris if I recall it correctly.

Hello @tijntje Thanks so much for dropping by. I really appreciate your comments. Graffiti and street art evoke a lot of different emotions but that is because there is a wide range of 'art' distributed out there. Australia seems to have quite a bit of it. Some of it is extremely well done, the rest, unfortunately is an eye sore.
You captured the atmosphere along with the lovely colourful photos. Fascinating work that really brightens up the laneways. Trudee. I can see why people are drawn to check out and photograph the street art. U&R.
Many thanks for the kind resteem and support Jo. Greatly appreciated. 🌹 🌷 🌹
