For my #dailydigital post I have decided to share a few of my original floral images that I have received an Impressionist digital makeover. I think it gives flower abstracts a distinctive yet very different appeal.
Camelias:
This first image features a red camelia and bud sitting in the midst of a bed of glossy green leaves. Camelia is a genus of flowering plants in the Theaceae family and are from eastern and southern Asia, the Himalayas, Japan and Indonesia.
The four main types of camellias are Sasanqua, Japonica, Reticulata and the Sinensis. The Japonica is the most recognizable of the four with its dark, glossy leaves and wide smooth petals of various shades. There are over 20,000 particular species of this type.
They can tolerate light frosts, prefer a little shade as they need protection from hot, drying conditions. Camelias are characterized by their dense shrubs and brilliant foliage. They bloom for long periods and are 0ften planted as garden hedges or screens for privacy.
Rhododendron Fabia Tangerine:
These beautiful flowers are classified as dwarf plants which grow approximately 3 x 3 feet. They love a mixture of filtered to full sun and do best planted in moist well drained acidic soils.
Rhododendrons are woody plants which belong to the heath family (Ericaceae) and there are over 1,024 species available around the world. They are either evergreen or deciduous plants situated mainly in Asia but also in the highlands of the Appalachian Mountains of North America.
It is also the national flower of Nepal and the state flower of both West Virginia and North America. These flowers are in full bloom from late winter right through to early summer.
Daisies:
Daisies (Asteraceae) are native to North America. The word Daisy originates from Anglo Saxon language meaning 'Eye' because daisies open up at dawn at the break of day. A daisy symbolizes Innocence and Purity and it can also mean New Beginnings.
The flower meaning of Daisy is, "I will never tell." Daisies are made up of two types of flowers; the disc floret and petal-like florets. Their stems are smooth and leafless and support a single flower and the leaf texture varies from smooth or hairy, narrow at the base and slightly lobed. They are usually grown from seeds, prefer all day sun and need regular watering during extended dry periods.
Roses:
These woody perennials are from the Rosaceae family and hundreds of species and thousands of cultivars exist today. Roses are versatile plants as they can be grown as shrubs, or as climbers and their sizes range from large to miniature.
The fruit of the rose is known as rose hip and many contain a rich source of Vitamin C. Fruit eating birds such as thrushes and waxwings love the hips and the seeds are dispersed via their droppings.
