Pansy Power.
I've chosen beautiful pansies as the subject for my Daily Digital post today. All these images were created after applying digital effects to my original photos.
Pansies are characterized by their heart- shaped, overlapping petals and come in a wide range of colours and patterns. They can be either annual or perennial but most gardeners treat pansies as annuals due to the fact they prefer cooler weather and are inclined to become too leggy in summer.
Despite many attempts to produce pansies that will be heat tolerant, but this hasn’t been successful to date. They much prefer cold weather and will even survive frosty conditions. Sometimes they may wither in very cold weather but will stay alive.
They grow well in containers and make attractive borders for gardens and are ideal ground covers. The best time to plant seeds is in late winter or early spring for summer flowering, however seeds can be planted during the for winter flowering.
Pansies thrive in moist, humus-rich well drained soil and enjoy sun but cooler temperatures. Space plants approximately 7 to 12 inches apart which will allow them to grow 6 to 9 inches tall. They need to be watered regularly and a good general all-purpose fertilizer will boost their growth. Removing dead leaves and petals will lengthen blooming times and create more prolific flowers.

I love pansies, they do really well in UPSTATE NY so it's the first thing I plant as far as annual plants. But my first beauties will be my daffodils, awesome yellow.
