Red & Crimson Bougainvillea Flowers.

A weathered wooden fence makes the perfect backdrop for these untamed, crimson bougainvillea flowers.

The Bougainvillea plant is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees. The flowers are actually very small and each cluster is surrounded by a variety of coloured bracts which include pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, yellow, and white.

There are 18 species in the genus and are native to South America and Southern Argentina. The vines grow from 3 to 40 feet tall and will easily take over other plants.

They are evergreen in climates which receive rainfall all year around and deciduous if there is a dry season. Bougainvillea Glabra are often referred to as “Paper flowers” because of the thin, papery texture of the bracts.

Oh they do have the coolest little white flowers thingie inside the red pedals though!

Kind of reminds me of these on my hill.

Well those lovely flowers are worth climbing a hill to appreciate. I think those little white thingys inside the petals make a beautiful contrast. Kind of you to drop by and view this post Paul. Thank you.

Isn't it interesting how they can change themselves according to their habitat? They are such a flexible plant in my opinion.

I never noticed how many we have here in the States until I started taking pictures and noticing how well they seemed to grow everywhere. Of course, the hotter, the prettier and more prolific, however, the cooler climate may have a shorter growing season, but the flowers are abundant and bigger. Perhaps more frequent rain?

Not sure, but, they are beautiful indeed! Enjoy your week ahead, Trudee!

So true Denise. I'm glad they don't have an irresistible fragrance because it would be very tricky trying to dodge their sharp spikes when inhaling their perfume. 😁

Thanks so much for dropping by to view and comment my friend.

Beautiful photos! I always enjoy seeing Bougainvillea when I travel to warmer climates!

Thanks very much Melinda. I've actually just changed the first image as I wasn't entirely happy with the other ones. Bougainvillea flowers love the tropical climates and since getting into photography I've been surprised at just how many coloured varieties there are available in Australia.

I see a lot of the different colors when I am curating for eSteem, and think they are all so lovely. I do like the new photo that you added!

Thank you Melinda I'm glad I spruced up the blog with the bougainvillea collage.

Lovely photos! You have a very warm way of looking at these simple flowers!
We see these flowers everywhere here and we tend to take them for granted!
Your photos give a completely fresh and new reception to this humble yet very friendly plant.

Some people would eat these flowers! There are some old recipes on how to deep fry these flowers after dipping them in flour and egg batter! Crispy and nice and light!!

That's such interesting news @kaminchan I had no idea people could eat these flowers. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I am afraid this is in Thai language. You could have them just deep fried, like vegetable tempura. Here she added spicy condiments on top.
These flowers are supposed to be very good for your heart!

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this video with me @kaminchan. I learnt so much more about these flowers and that dish looks very tasty. 🌷 🌼 🌷

Oh! My pleasure! It’s a pity that there is no English subtitle.

Howdy Trudee! Those are gorgeous plants and you are so right about the weathered fence making a perfect backdrop for them, good eye!

As you may know, the Bougainvillia Plant has very sharp thorns ideally making a good deterrent for intruders.
