Dogs in Benalmadena
This sign with a dog - it means that if your dog does its business on the curb, you don’t have to clean up after them. I guess the plants have need for the fertilizers. But if there is slash across the dog in the sign, then the plants don’t need your dog’s poo, and you had better clean up your dog’s business.
There are many dogs in Benalmadena. Dogs of all breeds and cross breeds. It is very common to see people walking their dogs throughout the day. In fact, almost every time I looked out of my window, I will see someone walking their dogs. Even as late as past midnight, you will still see people walking their dogs.
According to the owners of The Unicorn, this wasn’t the case 15 years ago. But in recent years, more and more people have taken to keeping dogs.
I have certainly noticed there has been an increase in the number of dogs since my first visit. On my first visit, I didn’t see as many dogs, although there was a noticeable urine stench on the streets, and there were dog poo everywhere. You really had to watch where you put your feet.
Dog owners are required to clean up after their dogs, but I guess some are just irresponsible. Last year, there was a vast improvement. The stench wasn’t so bad and there were less dog poo. The situation continued to improve this year, I am pleased to say.
There are many old folks in the area, so I guess it is understandable for them to have a dog for companionship. Sometimes, it is difficult to see who is the older of the two, and who needs who more. It is sweet and endearing to see them looking out for each other and giving each other comfort.
Of course, young people keep dogs too, not just the old people.
This scene was just ahead of me. The dog is old and so tired, it had to stop for a rest. The owner and the younger dog waited patiently, but the old dog didn't let them wait for long. After a short rest, all went on their way. A very touching scene.

In Ventura, California, there are signs on the trash cans that say, "There is no poop fairy. Pick up after your dog." It's a very dog friendly town though. Around here, many dogs have "service animal" vests on that the owners buy on Amazon. That way they can take them into businesses that wouldn't otherwise allow animals. We go to a restaurant called Lazy Dog where dogs are allowed on the patio and they have things on the menu for them, like chicken and brown rice.
wow... dogs dining in a restaurant. They must have good karma. Now they are reaping the rewards of the good deeds they did in their previous life. :-)
That's a nice way to think about it :-)
howdy sir Vincent! A very touching scene? Yeah that's what we live for. I think you should retire to that place and get a big dog. That would be perfect since you like to walk all over the place anyway, might as well have a dog for company. Dogs ain't picky so even they would like you!
Howdy Jonboy. I know you are only trying to be funny. But for your information, dogs are better at reading people than humans. A dog, any dog would like me, because they know I am more worthy than you give me credit for. lol
lol! Any dog would probably love you sir Vincent, so true! lol.
TRYING to be funny? hey, that was a funny line! well maybe not. lol.
