Introducing: The Introduceyourself Helpie Curation Incentive

in #esteem6 years ago

Greetings Steemian's,

I was recently assigned a new role in the @helpie community as a @helpiecake baker. (Curator)

As a helpie, it should go without saying that I enjoy helping others. It's something that fulfills one of my purposes in life.

What drives me to help others you might ask?

I'm a man who went from having everything I could have ever wanted in life, to a fall down drunk living under bridges. During the course of a 10 year struggle of homelessness and addiction, I started to search deep within myself to get to the root of the problem, that is: What was causing/influencing this self destructive way of being? The conclusion I drew to, was that I had unresolved trauma from my childhood, and a feeling of loneliness which fueled it even more. The bottom line was that I needed help, and the help that I needed just wasn't there. So I helped myself, and made a full recovery.

Not everyone is able to achieve recovery, and so today it makes me feel great when I can be a positive and helpful influence on the lives of others. Steem is one way I am able to do this.

The Introduceyourself Helpie Curation Incentive

So what is it all about?

Simple really. One of my practices is to upvote and comment on undervalued #introduceyourself posts, as a means to motivate new users, and help them feel like their efforts are being recognized. To me, this is not only very important for user retention, but it's also just a good thing to do that I feel users of this blockchain have an intrinsic duty to uphold. Everyone deserves a shot here! So we should ensure they get one. That is how I think in regards to new users on the Steem blockchain.

So becoming a curator for helpie, I started thinking of ways in which I could use this position to help new users. It was my first thought when awarded the position, but is curating a post all I can do? No way!

I can also:

  • 100% vote the post
  • Comment on the post
  • Resteem the post
  • Send them a 1 Steem gift.

Yes, I can effectively do this, and it's no secret that I will earn the Steem back, through the implementation of a post creation dedicated to this incentive. So really, it's a win for the new user, and a win for me as well.

How often will you do this Futuremind?

As much as I can!

I'm also a curator for eSteem, run @steembasicincome giveaways for the @helpie trail followers, SBI giveaways for the @spl trail followers, I help out with @dfacademy , have personal research projects ongoing, as well as create personal blog entries. I'm not stating this to toot my own horn, but mostly to lay out the fact that I'm pretty busy, so this will be a challenge to get done regularly. I cannot promise this will be every single day, but it will be more than once per week, and probably something like 3-6 times a week.

By doing this, I'm effectively giving back to the community, while continuing to grow so that I can help even more! It's my opinion, that this is what being a helpie on the Steem blockchain is all about!

My first pick

@deadcrow

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@deadcrow/i-am-vincent-and-this-is-my-first-post-to-introduce-myself

Selection Reasons

  • I determined the user put effort into creating this post.
  • User listed hobbies/interests.
  • User added nice photographs of some of his hobby creations.
  • User seemed very genuine in his presentation.
  • The post made me feel good.

Congratulations @deadcrow, you've been manually curated, and sent a 1 Steem gift, courtesy of the @helpie curation team!

This sums up why I chose this post for curation. Also taking into account that formatting, tricks of the trade, ect are something that come with practice and learning. I am not looking for perfect introduction posts. From my experience, the perfect one's trend with bid bots, and that leads me to believe that they are gamers with alts. (not all of them, but a great deal that I've seen in the past) The genuine posts are what I am looking for, in the "new" posts section.

This concludes my first #introduceyourself Helpie Curation Incentive!

Thank you all for reading, and welcome aboard to the new users of the Steem blockchain!

Much love,

@futuremind

I like your approach friend, I'm motivated to do something similar. When I was new in the community it was hard for me. we must support, greetings from venezuela

Thank you for the kind words! Absolutely, we have a duty to support new users , just as much as those who've been around for a while. Otherwise, it becomes a circle jerk that everyone loses interest in!
