Imagine what would life be without emotions, we would all be Robots simply responding to commands with no personal touch or feelings. But that's not the case. We humans are full of emotions they are one integral part of we humans, they define our existence. We carry them day in and out all the time along with us. They are a part and parcel of our lives. But the most important thing is; Do we always keep flowing into our emotions. Well the answer should be No. So how do we do that. How can one Stay out of this Emotional Hole. Well the one simple answer is increase our "Emotional Agility"

What is Emotional Agility


When one is always in the emotional turmoil and stuck with deep emotions you will find that person always in a state of confusion, delusion, not able to cope up with life challenges, having relationship issues and what not. It is very well said that before we go and deal with the external world it is first very much important to deal with our internal world. If we have complete control and clarity on our internal world then dealing with the external world becomes much simpler. How well we perceive and express ourselves will decide how we perceive others and bring out ourselves to others.

Emotional intelligence refers to being aware of and in control of one’s own emotions. Emotional agility, meanwhile, refers to approaching one’s inner experiences mindfully and productively.

So what can one do to get out of this Emotional Hole

Well for me the most important action to deal with any problem is first you need to Identify, then accept and then bring a solution to it.

- Identify the Problem area - One needs to understand what are the problem areas of life where one has no control over self. E.g. one keeps getting angry all the time, or one keeps playing the role of victim all the time, or that one is always sad no matter what good or not very good things happen in life. These are the patterns we carry from all our past experiences and memories. Repetitive behavioral patterns can get destructive for us. The moment when one has no control over self means there is a problem and that problem area needs to be identified.

- Accept the Problem -Acceptance is very important, because when one does not accept that he/she has a problem one cannot work towards resolving it. Every emotional turmoil we carry within us is giving us some message that we need to deal with but we can only deal with it if we accept it. I want to overcome it is the most important feeling one should have when dealing with emotions.

- Overcome the Problem / Clearing the Emotional blocks-Once we identify and accept our patterns which is more of a mental work then overcoming is the action that one needs to take. I have also observed in my work that people are stuck with Emotional blocks that they are not even aware of and they surface up only when something particular happens to trigger it. Clearing the emotional blocks that one carries from this lifetime or past lives can be very liberating. Navigating through our emotions can help us be effective in the way we deal with life.

So what are those few things that one can do to clear Emotional Blocks:

  • Detach - Very important I feel, when we are able to detach ourselves from situations, circumstances, people then 75% of the battle is won. Detach does not mean you do not care for the person or become cold towards experiences of life. It only means look at things more objectively. When we look at things more subjectively then our personal feelings and emotions flare up and we get into the never ending cycle.

  • Daily Meditation practice - A Daily meditation practice is very beneficial when we have weak hearts and mind. This is where you get an opportunity to work with your inner world so that you are well equipped to deal with the outer world.
    A regular Meditation practice helps bring lot of clarity to life.

  • Being Conscious- When we are conscious about the way we carry ourselves it is much easier to deal with our problem areas. The moment an emotion flares up in the state of consciousness one can easily control and know that it is not required to react.

  • A Healthy Diet and a Positive environment - This one also plays a major role in controlling emotions. Our diet defines us, what goes in shapes us. If we are in regular habit of unhealthy diet and lifestyle it will definitely impact our mood and emotions. Same goes for the environment we are in. Our home environment is very important to control our thoughts and emotions. If both of these are healthy we will find ourselves in a much stable and grounded position.

  • Grounding - Yes Grounding does control a lot of our emotions. If we are not well grounded we see we take off very easily to situations, the stability is always at question. Have you observed this when you get nightmares the following day you are not in a very comfortable position. You will have mood swings. Nightmares occur also when one is not well grounded. The fears and insecurities of life keep surfacing in our subconscious state in our dream time in the form of nightmares.

These are some of my tips to allow yourself to not get into the Emotional Hole and have stability in life.

I really liked your inclusion of grounding. There most definitely is a physiological, magnetic, energetic connection established and strengthened through grounding, and the lack of that makes emotional equilibrium difficult to maintain, even with all the knowledge, will and "how tos" in the world. Some great thoughts on this question. I've been struggling with where to start on it.

I feel like identifying the problem can be the hardest part. Sometimes, we are so embroiled in our emotions, we're not always sure what is triggering them. Either that, or we're so far in the hole, that what started our descent is just a blip on the horizon and now other things have piled in.

I am sure once you start it will automatically flow. At some point in our life we always get sucked into these Emotional holes, but the most important is for how long we stay there, that's what matters the most.
