Dreemit's World: "My Childhood Home"

in #dreemitsworld7 years ago (edited)

Embark on a new adventure with me in my brand new series about the real world in which I live.

Walk, hike, bike, take a motorcycle ride and a road trip, go wine trailing, hit a brewery, come kayaking, jet skiing, and swimming. Through my words and a lens, see the beauty of the Finger Lakes and other fascinating places in New York and beyond!

From The Window of my Secret Childhood Fort-Episode One of Dreemit's World

I'm thinking of this series like a painting, and I'm beginning at the center of the page. The first episode reflects the core of me- a place where I've resonated from the age of ten when we moved to the beautiful Finger Lakes region, all the way to now. And if we are fortunate enough to keep this idyllic slice of paradise in the family, I will resonate with it for as long as I am physically capable of going there.

This next part of the painting would represent the scene that revolves around it. The home base of my formative years.

The last house on a dead end street, before state park land begins.

On the right hand side of the road, just beyond that group of trees is the childhood home of one of my nearest and dearest-represented in Reborn by Macey.

"I'm surprised your parents are okay with this," Marina said to Macey.

Macey smiled her typical mischief smile. "They don’t mind if I drink as long as I'm responsible and I don't get in a car, and since I can walk home from here that’s obviously not an issue."

“Walk? You could crawl home from here,” Anna interjected. Macey’s house was located about a hundred yards away on the lake side of the street.

Which is exactly what she’ll be doing if I make her drinks,” Marina waggled her eyebrows.

You do not want to park a car in this driveway without the parking brake on...unless of course you could use the insurance money.

This deck and stairs combo was built nearly twenty-five years ago. At some point I'll sift through my mom's albums to find a picture of it when it was new.

It is also featured in Reborn. At some point I will take pictures down below, but right now the water level is too high to get any decent ones.

On their second trip down the stairs Anna found herself being lifted into the air from behind.

"Austin, put me down," she laughed.

"Give me that," he took the cooler from her, "as clutzy as you are I would hate to spend your party at the hospital for a broken leg." He mock played falling down the stairs and she made a face at him. He laughed and waggled his eyebrows before jogging down ahead of her.

Not a bad view to walk out to every morning ;)

The woods beside the driveway provided awesome hiding places for manhunt and jailbreak.

I decided to throw in another scene from Reborn...

She decided it was time to find out about some other things. She looked at the roof of her garage and crouched. She jumped…a whole five inches. She frowned and backed up, this time taking a running leap…about a foot that time. Maybe this wasn't something she could do.

But....she imagined she was being chased by someone and had to get away. Concentrating everything she had on it, she ran and leapt once more. She hit the side of the metal roof off balance and started falling backwards. Her arms pin wheeled and she managed to throw her body forward, and then she was sliding down the smooth surface and falling over the side. She landed rather less gracefully than she would've liked. Although she did hit feet first, the momentum carried her backwards and she skinned up her elbows when she fell.

...and one more:

She studied the bloodied scrapes and in seconds they faded and were gone.

Oo-kay...she thought her eyes wide, what have I learned? I can leap high, just need some practice. And I can be hurt, but I heal wicked fast. She felt a smile growing on her face and she heard the screen door open.

She looked up from her butt on the patio and grinned foolishly at Austin who was regarding her warily.

"What are you doing?"

"Well," she said still grinning, "I was testing out my new abilities. I just leapt onto the roof! Granted it took a few tries and I fell off...but I did it! And I scraped myself," she held up her unmarked elbows and his brows came together.

"Yeah, I know, nothing there, I watched it heal! Austin I have super powers, I am like...Bat Woman!" She busted out laughing at the cliche then abruptly stopped. "Oh. I really hope that the whole bat thing is a myth, I don't like the idea of that." She wrinkled her nose.

This creek, located just behind the garage, runs under the driveway and into the lake. After a few days of rain what appears to be a tame little stream can turn into a raging river.

This is what I would consider just the very beginning of my childhood backyard. At some point I will take you past the lawn, through the field, and into the woods where I spent a large portion of my youth.

This outdoor fire place was hand built by the previous owner out of field stone in the 1950's. We still enjoy it to this day.

And that concludes today's episode of Dreemit's World. I hope everyone enjoyed, and wishing all of you mom's out there a wonderful day!

Generously created for me by @son-of-satire

Ohhh I forgot about Marina and Macey! There were so many things that happened, so many more characters introduced that it felt like they were from another series. I hope they make an appearance in the sequel.

I remember that scene with Austin and from when Anna was first testing out her powers haha! Good times. Great stuff, my friend :D

They do appear in the sequel, as does Holly, and you definitely will see more of them throughout the series, (Marina features heavily in book three ;)

It's fun for me to re-visit, I'm glad you feel the same!

Oh for sure, I just wish this was a weekly thing during the series. Kinda like your version of SILVER LINING, so that readers are given a sneak peek while they were immersed in the story.

Another sychronicity, little odd things that I notice: today I put up a collection of diorama pics from the Fictionarium story, and the premise was that the world in that story was based on reality, but was fiction, or fake. Then I come here and you have real pics from the real world, showing a real place which helped inspire the fictional world of Reborn. The similarities are interesting, but I'm easily amused :)

That looks like a nice place by the lake there, one of those places which appears to improve with age.

Nice!! I will definitely be taking a look at that :) At my brother's for mom's day plus his birthday ;)

Great history and makes very good material for fiction. I am following you to see the rest....

I'm glad to hear that, I will have to check out your page as well :)

Thank you, very new on steemit.

unless of course you could use the insurance money.

LOL

Hee hee, I've had a few close calls on that account...It's Rolling!! LOL

Oh Macey..... she continues to be a piece of work....

Obv. from a location and real estate perspective, I need to see this place one day LOL.

My Mother's Day post finally got up with the trip to the nursing home and you will get to see my creative side sister!

I know you will want to see that, based on our chats here and our mutual things we do not have in common but support the other person with bahahahaha!

Saunters off

All of my girls are ;)

Obviously! Haha!
Oh cool, going to check that out now---
skips over to Barry's

Hee heeee!!!

#SteemitCampfire

posts are high engagment both weekends, 125/150 comments per post with people there!!!

Reminds me of your land in NYS , good place for fun times.

That's awesome! And I absolutely agree!

I have 9 blog posts up today, a new record by far LOL. Mostly on crypto but another in my photo series from the Marsh.

Hey lovely @dreemit,

Wow, I didn't know how heavily the place you grew up in featured in your hit "Reborn". Awesome stuff. Love the open and lush spaces featured in your photos. I can easily see why it inspired you so much.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for more such incredible ideas sprung up from the wonderful and talented mind of @dreemit.

I definitely tend to use places I'm familiar with in many of my stories. For instance Today Again--Grassroots is a real festival that takes place near Ithaca NY, just twenty minutes from me. The group that Lissa meets are all based on real people who camped in the spot I describe every year for a decade (my brother is actually one of these characters and he basically got the tradition started when he was seventeen :) All of their bantering, stories, etc. are based on real events :) I will be continuing that book at some point, just got a bit distracted.

Ah, Today Again! I've been so caught up in Reborn that I forgot about it. But I'm all curious again.

Looks like an idyllic childhood place.
