Comparing Notes: Poetry Process

in #discussion6 years ago (edited)

Everyone has their own way of doing things.

The traditional classroom setting has produced many great thinkers and doers throughout the ages. Additionally, “the world as a classroom” model has also given rise to countless prolific works.

While each method has its own merit, no one way of learning is better or worse than another. The most effective learning may occur when a combination of methods is utilized.

Comparing notes among peers is a valuable interaction for all parties, regardless of educational background. Plus, it's fun to peer at the mind's inner-workings from fresh perspectives.

That being said, the way I have learned to create poetry is by fusing words with visual images. I find the words flow out more effortlessly when I allow myself the freedom to doodle or sketch during “writing time”.

Here is one example of an illustrated poem I made recently, entitled, “What Did You Say?”. (Fun fact: This little nugget came out of my pen right before the four poems in my #verse-therapy series.)

Here is another example of my visual writing, this time with a tessellation {{(!)}}, inspired by an Art Party recently had by @soulturtle, @manouche, (and her sister), @bhavyadesai, and @karunya. It's kinda chibi. The poem for this one has yet to be written fully...

I can relate with using visuals though mine I never draw, I just see scenes in my mind and write them down (for my fiction writing). I try to get a sense of the emotions at play in what I'm seeing and will sometimes use music to color or extract those feels :)

Very cool idea to share notes @enternamehere and I'll keep an eye on this post for more.
Love the art and poem for "What did you say?"

From the way you described your writing process, it sounds like you have plenty of practice summoning the powers of visual imagery in your mind's eye. With time, any task can become second nature to us. Giving the subconscious a little something to chew on by listening to music in the background is something I also find useful for The Process (though silence has its worth, too).

Thanks for the support. I have only very recently begun with this poetry exploration, so you're catching all the raw flavors of a beginner. ☺

I use my poetry as a sounding board it is what I truly want to say in the moment. I let it be brutal because the brutality of letting it kill me inwardly is too much. It tends to push people away from me as people hear what they want to hear or they misinterpreted the creation as something meant for them. I often must ask forgiveness for my poetic out bursts.

I possibly have poetry terrets.

Lol, an explosive verbal spattering, eh? That checks out.

One sign of a great work is its ability to make the viewer, listener, reader, or user feel ______. You didn't ask for it, but IMO an apologetic tone is not always necessary. Art is entirely 100% subjective and that's the way it is! Why apologize for the gifts we've been given? ☺

It's wonderful what flows once you have an art prompt. The colour on that drawing truly makes it what it is.

Comparing notes among peers is a valuable interaction for all parties, regardless of educational background.

Ever since I've been on steemit, I find myself subconsciously registering and bookmarking the work of the amazing people on here and I guess it reflects in my own work. Coincidentally your #drawitagain post is what's inspiring my next one :)

Your cat tessellation is SO cool. I always struggle with tessellations because I'm trying to draw freehand on a grid, I don't know why it never occurred to make a stencil! I love the cats and their expressions. (And that you remembered my sister was there, lol!)

The inspiration that flows through this place is almost unreal. What's more amazing, that there is a platform where we can all share and influence each others' work, OR the surging creative energy we have collectively and intrinsically? Trick question! There's no answering that one.

What an honor to have a proxy hand in your upcoming post! Definitely look forward to your posts, they're like picking a nice piece of fruit from a tree.

The stencil alone is not perfect, though if it were used in conjunction with a grid, alignment would be a snap. This is the first tessellation I've made in a long time, and it was a lot of fun. Thanks for all your support!

It's so true. The creative energy in this platform and a genuine interest that some people show in each other's work is something that pushes you to do more.

The post is up on my blog! Must say that you played a big role in deciding how I'd go about the post.

Make more cat stencils! I like the idea of having a lot of cat tessellations.

I have no notes, I don't do doodles neither poetry, but I like to read your stuff here. It helps me think that I should pronounce more the aspiration of the H, when I pronounce such words like harms and hurt. And then I watch porn. For shit and giggles.

I don't do doodles neither poetry,

What do you call this, BOLLOCKS - A MESSAGE AGAINST MEN, if not poetry? (jschindler showed me this morning. From the look on your face, the communion was lovely :-}). You must be so good you don't need to take notes, except in your mind.

You seem to have a shit fixation, I can't help but notice. About the Hs, is the H quiet in your mother tongue?

Of course! In Latin languages, H is not pronounced ^^
Feces is a very common topic in my daily life

Oh! To both of those statements. I didn't know H was silent in all Latin languages, shows what a linguist I am. I took German in high school while everyone else was in Spanish or French class. Feces is natural to a healthy daily life, smelly as it can be :D You embrace the poo.
