Sprouting Mung Beans After 24 Hours dailyfoodphotography

in #dailyfoodphotography6 years ago (edited)

After being submerged in water for 24 hours, my mung beans are now sprouting nicely. You can see their little tails are popping out.

At this point in the proceedings, my sprouts no longer need to be submerged, and in fact will not grow well if I do that. Now they only need to be kept moist – not flooded.

I am keeping my sprouts in a closet now. This is so they do not dry out. This is also the reason they are in a shallow bowl instead of a deep one. This way the water is more effective.

I check and add a bit more water every so often. I might add a couple of tablespoons of water and then stir gently to make sure all the sprouts stay moist. I also keep a loose plastic bag over the top of them in my efforts to keep the moisture constant.

If they are too wet, my mung bean sprouts will drown and rot. If they are too dry, they will die from lack of water. I feel attachment to my sprouts at this time and want neither one of those tragedies to occur. I take care of them since I know how delicious my sprouts will be if I succeed in growing them right.

I’m grateful I lost half my size and just sorry it took me until I was 50 years old to figure out how to do it. Anyone can lose weight if I did. I can help you with simple and natural methods you will enjoy. It’s been over seven years now since I had to worry about my weight. What a relief.

They spout really fast. 24 hours is nothing for them to be sprouting already.

Are you sprouting these to then plant and grow, or are the spouts to be eaten? Between you and your Son I am learning of all sorts of new interesting foods and supplements.

lol - he's my kid for sure :) I'm growing these to eat and half the time I eat them all before they are at their full potential. They start getting good in about 3-4 days and finish in 4-5 if I don't eat them first.

You can sprout every dried bean you get at the store - all of them improve in taste, nutrition, and are easier to cook and digest. I love sprouting kidney beans, but I have not found them here, so mung beans it is. With the bigger beans you just need to have the tail come out and then you can cook then and add them to chili or whatever. You would not believe the improvement.

Part of my new healthy life was to get my nutrition from food and not pills. It's so much better this way - but I had to learn all new skills.

I never heard of sprouting a bean to make it easier to cook and digest. This is very interesting.

Everything I've ever read says that pills are not the way to get your nutrients. The only thing I supplement most of the time is Vitamin C and I take 1-2000 mg a day. Started this when my youngest went to school and really stay on top of it during flu season. Been very effective.

lol - This is a good mantra for me :)

Oh now i know what it is. In my language Konkani they are called as "Mug". We make a gravy with it and eat it with rice.

Oh wow - I bet that is delicious. you should do a post on that :)

Holy cow I didn't think the beans would be sprouting like that that quickly!

They do! The whole process is about 4-5 days and then if I don't eat them all they keep in the fridge until I do. It's fun to watch and I have not killed them once - until I eat them :)

Wow what an astonishing accomplishment @fitinfun I'm sure you didn't do it all with just sprouts tho. are you following some kind of diet like a mediterranean style diet?

Thank you! I surprised myself - 50 years of obesity and now thin for about 7. I am pretty much paleo/aip. Meat and veggies, nut, seeds, fat. But since I am in Thailand, the rice creeps in too. Most important to me is no poison - additives, gmos, pesticides etc. That is really with difference. I eat like I do now to help arthritis symptoms improve.

Ohh it is one of my favorite! We call it mongo. It is so nutritious. Upvoted and commented. Looking forward to your next post!

Really! Where are you from? I love them and try to keep them always sprouting. I'm so happy to have them for soup and salad and very glad for the nutrition :)

I live in the Phils.

we used to do this in our science project in grade school. thanks for sharing @fitinfun.

lol -I must have missed that class, but now mung bean sprouts are one of my main foods!

My mother used to do that as well, we also used chickpeas I think. It was quite a nice addition to salads. Chr7is from Kryptonia :)

Chickpeas are wonderful when sprouted! I wish I had some and I will search them out. It's so interesting how many people comment that their parents or grandparents used to do this. We have lost a lot of old and good habits.

This is a very important post for us!!! fitness control very difficult..
thank you for sharing

Thank you. I feel so much better now :)

Not long to sprouts!

Yes, they will be here soon! Quicker than I am doing the posts :)
