What I believe to be a rumor, because children are undoubtedly the greatest things in life, and every dad knows: In vain is there nothing, from the first diaper pack to countless children's clothes, shoes that last a maximum of one season, knapsacks that are so today cost a lot like a small car, to the basic electronic equipment, without which a teenager can not survive today (at least from his point of view). I or we have four children, and without them I would probably be a millionaire and would have retired long ago in southern France. But I am still a millionaire, and with memorable moments with a wife and children! And I learned this lesson late - that these are true treasures. Memories.

The value of material things and memories

For a long time, (money) was worth a lot to me, which stays and has a practical use. A good cordless screwdriver. A sensible notebook. But a lot of money, for example spend a nice holiday? Go by so fast, and then the money is gone - without you holding back something in your hands. But that's not true - and now you're welcome to nod knowingly - you keep the memory. Each experience a little treasure in the treasure chest of his memory, which one can bring out at any time, to dig in it, preferably together with his partner ("Do you remember ?!").

And yes - many beautiful moments are simply forgotten, it's just too many and constantly new ones are added. But some experiences remain lasting in the memory and become over the years more and more golden and sweet, they mature like a good wine.

Like our first visit to the zoo, the most beautiful zoo I have ever met. At that time we were still four: on a never-ending summer's day we trudged through the zoo world, where everything was set up that it just did not look like a zoo (next to the lion cage the penguins), but rather like a walk through endless savannah in the "theme world Africa". Amazed children's eyes. And eventually tired legs. Well done, but also really hungry, we made our way back to the parking lot and set ourselves on the long journey back to Dusseldorf. It was already late, the children tired ... and you know: tired children = potential for escalation.

A spontaneous experience - a high on unreasonableness

But what was that on the roadside? A real American diner - where young people with mighty great and impressive old Chevys pulled up? With huge burgers and whole mayonnaise tubes on the table instead of the tiny portions that are never enough? So let's live up to the lack of reason. That we burned down after the visit to the zoo? No matter. The kids are tired? Still it went. So off to the terrace, in the golden light of the setting sun really clean and watch the little girls while playing. Memories ... And yes - of course, the girls fell asleep immediately on the return trip, of course, there was once again really crackling when we carried them one after the other to the fifth floor in the apartment. But that does not happen in my memories. Only this magical moment that makes you feel happy. And rich.
